A Study

Background: Karaul is a Male Channeler, brough to the Tower by Yuluriss Sedai of the Red Ajah. In a meeting of the Hall of the Tower he was presented and his trial date was set. He was to be held in the dungeons, shielded, until the set date. At the meeting two Aes Sedai, Coliena Sedai of the Brown Ajah, and Rayche Sedai of the Red, requested to study him. Coliena is in it merely for the knowledge, Rayche wants to possbly find a way to clean up the taint. This is a log of one of the times Coliena questioned the man.

Characters:

Karaul, a soon to be gentled male channeler
Coliena Sedai of the Brown Ajah
Morillin Sedai of the Red Ajah
Yuluriss Sedai of the Red Ajah
Rayche Sedai of the Red Ajah
And other various Red NPCs.

(This logs takes up a little after it should have, Coliena has begun to question him and he commented on how she could learn anything from a mad man. And she comments that she had not heard he was mad. This is where the log picks up.)

Karaul shrugs lightly, "Ah, well I've heard that I'm not mad, and would not think I am. But every woman I have met, insists there is something direly wrong with me." he chuckles, moving over to the bars, leaning against them lightly as he gazes out, "And what knowledge might I be able to give you Sedai?"

Coliena tilts her head, "There is nothing direly wrong with you, except that you can channel. But you did not ask for that and should not be punished too greatly." She shakes her head and opens up a blank book and starts to get her writing utencils ready, "I just would like to know what you do, how you do it, how you feel when you do it. Things like that. Anything that can give me an idea about how channeling is for you." Again, she seems only interested.

Karaul sighs deeply with a soft shrug, "I find it so strange that everyone wishes to know how I do, what I do. But they all insist that it must be taken from me. It all appears so strange to me." he sighs, moving away from the bars but still speaking, "As I've told the last Sedai I spoke with, it is a battle between me and the power...Saidin I beleive she called it." he sighs, turning his attention to the woman and awaiting a response, still appearing torn towards what to expect from anyone.

Coliena jots down a few lines, nodding softly, "Interesting. A battle." She shakes her head, "I do not agree with all of what the other sisters say..." but with two Reds in hearing range she does not elaborate, instead she says, "But if you were allowed to continue channeling you would eventually go mad, and that is a fate no one with a heart would condem you to." She glances up and offers another smile before asking, "What kind of battle? Do you have any words to describe the battle?"

Karaul chuckles lightly, looking to the floor for a moment, "Ah, something I've surely learned while I've been in this hole. I obviously do not have a choice in anything Sedai." he says, eyes returning to her face, "I must constantly fight..Saidin.." he says, still uncomfortable with the word, "so as not to let it take me over. And I must control it, making it do as I wish it to. From what I hear of your own use of the Power, they are not even remotely similiar." he says, calmly laying his attention on the woman as he leans against the bars.

Coliena nods, continueing to write, "Not remotely. Well for some Wilders it may seem like a battle to get to hold on to saidar, but I would expect saidar and saidin to have many differences. Quite interesting." She starts to ramble slightly, "That is part of the reason I came down here, I wanted to make a record while I could of the differences between saidar and saidin. Sometimes I wish there were a way to get around the taint so that we could do all kinds of things. Like back in the Age of Legends all the greatest acomplishments by Aes Sedai needed both men and women..." She trails off and asks another question, "Do you feel any differently when you are holding on to saidin?"

Karaul can't resist, smiling lightly as she speaks, responding with a grin, "Indeed Sedai, every sensation is enhanced. My vision is crisper, can hear things much easier, and much more. And of course the rot within my stomach, that seems to hold over even after I release it." he chuckles, shaking his head lightly.

Coliena humms thoughtfully and scratches a few more things on to the paper, in fact she copies down word for word in some parts and puts quotes around it. "So the taint, you can feel it? Is there any way you can describe it in words, besides 'rot within my stomach'?"

Morillin enters the dungeon from the flight of stairs.

Coliena is sitting at a table which has been pulled up next to the bars, copying down into a book. Other books and papers are on the table in a pile. She seems to have her 'very interested' look on her face, and she is smiling quite kindly at the man.

Karaul opens his mouth for a response, yet turns an eye as he notes another's entrance, grinning lightly as he takes a small step back from the bars.

Morillin strides down the main hallway, back straight and hands folded calmly at her waist. As she reaches the cell, she comes to a stop, inclining her head to Coliena for a brief moment before turning her cool gaze on Karaul. The sweet scent of roses swirls around her, momentarily masking the dank mustiness of the air.

Karaul turns his attention yet again to the woman seated outside from him, glancing over the two Reds holding his shield, yet his eyes remained on the red fringe of her shawl for a moment, a small grin disappearing. "I can feel the taint within every ounce of Saidin, almost taste it. Yet it surely gives me a sick feeling to the stomach, which I, relatively, learned to ignore."

Coliena blinks as she notices the man's attention has been averted and glances over, seeing Morillin. She murmurs a soft, "Good day, sister..."then turns her eyes and smile back on Karaul, and starts to write again as he speaks, getting every word down as quickly as possible.

Morillin exchanges the smallest of smiles with the two other Red sisters as she brushes a strand of dark hair from one cheek. "Interesting, is he, Coliena?" she asks quietly after a moment.

Karaul smirks softly at the reference to him, shaking his head slowly. Exchanging a small glance between the two, he leans against the bars yet again, "It is good to see that your 'interesting' guests are kept in, what I must say, is probably the finest area of the tower." he adds with a small grin.

Coliena finishes writing and glaces toward Morillin again, smile fading slightly, then nods, "Yes, he is quite interesting." Then she turns back to the man, smile reappearing... until she hears what he says at least. She actually manages to look ashamed.

Morillin gives the man a smile of her own, one without warmth. "Rest assured, Karaul, men such as yourself never stay down here for long. In a matter of days, you will be free to wander the grounds outside. With an Accepted as escort."

Karaul retains his grin, "I must say, I shall miss the friendly banter of my two 'guardians'." he says, offering a smirk as he slides his attention slowly back to the brown, "Though the taint covers me in a feeling of sickness, Saidin surely entices me enough to make me, at least try, to forget about it's presence." he shrugs.

Coliena blinks and writes down what is newly said quickly, murmuring a soft, "Interesting." though she still looks a little ashamed. "What about the actual channeling. Can you tell the flows apart? Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit?"

Karaul chuckles softly, rubbing at his eyes to stave of a moment of tiredness, "Although the words you use are still foreign, I do beleive I know what you're referring to. I've never quite thought of them as such...flows?" he sighs, "Although as I told the last, my memory grows stale with this shield keeping me from the power." he sighs, adding in afterthought, "Yes, in general I can tell the differences, mainly from experience, and the need to put them together."

Morillin listens in silence, watching Karaul without appearing to blink.

Coliena nods and writes down somemore, pausing a moment to think of more questions while she writes. She does ask, blandly, "Anything else you'd like to add on that acount?"

Karaul shrugs quickly, "The only times I ever really brought the....flows you called them?...together, was in healing the wounded." he sighs, offering another small glance to the other Sedai, as if putting more interest in trying to figure the two out then his words.

Morillin's lips twist briefly. "Are you certain of that?" she demands coolly.

Coliena nods and continues to write as she asked, "So you have Healing Talent then? Did you use all five of the flows? And how did the Healing turn out? I am quite curious..." she writes somemore, though this time the words seem to drift more into her own thought on what is being said. She is totally involved in the words and writing them down. The Reds might not even be there as far as she is conserned.

Karaul smiles as the Red speaks, turning to inquire to her briefly, "And what more might you think I'd be using my evil gift for?" he says, turning for a moment to address the Brown, "I wouldn't call it a talent, all was fairly simple concerning the situations. Although yes, though very difficult to handle at first, it involved all five." he nods lightly, glancing towards the Red again curiously.

Coliena hmms thoughtfully and writes all that down. She seems to finally realize the Red spoke and glances toward her, then back at the man, "Is there any other thing you showed skill in doing, anyrhing that came particually easy to you?"

Yuluriss enters the dungeon from the flight of stairs.

Morillin rests her hands on her hips, her red-fringed shawl sliding down her arms to loop itself over her elbows. "You should be grateful," she informs Karaul just after Coliena speaks. "We are trying to save you from madness and a terrible death."

The honey haired Red Sister sweeps into the dungeon corridor and makes her way towards the cell holding Karaul. She nods politely to both Coliena and Morillin, "Good day sisters."

Morillin turns to give Yuluriss a curt nod. "Sister."

Coliena is sitting at a table which has been pulled up next to the bars, copying down into a book. Other books and papers are on the table in a pile. She seems to have her 'very interested' look on her face. She glances up from her writing as another one arrives and nods, "Good day, sister..." then goes back to writing.

Karaul quirks a brow lightly, turning his body somewhat more towards the Red sister as she speaks, "Save me you say? I could have years if you would not...gentle me. But the general consensus I have gained here, is that I am not expected to live more then two years after the deed is done, and most likely kill myself. I have a hard time referring to that as 'saving' me." he sighs.Coliena glances up at the man and looks slightly ashamed again, though she tries to cover it with four other sisters, all Red, in the dugeon.

Karaul addresses the newcomer to the area of his cell with a small greeting nod, a grin showing as he remembers the face, though attention surely remaining on the two more directly before him.

Yuluriss nods to Karaul and inquires politely if directly, "You are being treated well so far I trust?"

Morillin smirks. "You would rather touch the Dark One's taint, would you? Go mad? You are a fool if you wish that fate. Better to be freed from such worries now."

Karaul shrugs with a slight grin, "Ah, go from one great worry, to another. Truly, I see the solution as much more apparent." he says, a hint of anger showing through for a moment as he turns his attention to the other Red, "As well as can be expected in a dungeon Sedai. Although as I have told the two holding my shield now, you must teach your Sedai to have less compassion for a sleeping man." he grins softly, turning his attention to the whole group outside.

Morillin sniffs pointedly.

Coliena goes back to jotting things down to avoid looking overly ashamed.

Karaul sighs, shrugging mostly to himself as he sees little true reaction to his words, turning to address the Brown again, "And on your previous point, I would not know exactly Sedai. Everything took a good effort on my part, growing steadily easier as I got used to it all."

Yuluriss replies bluntly to Karaul, "How have they discomforted you?"

Coliena nods and jots some more down carefully, muttering softly to herself.

Karaul chuckles somewhat heartily as he responds to the question, "They merely felt that one was enough as they switched shifts." he smiles, "Too bad they were still out of arm's reach." he grins, turning back to the Brown, "And what else may I aid your knowledge with Sedai?"

Morillin mutters to Yuluriss, "If... were to have... shield, he would... to... our... have... too..."

Yuluriss converses in muted tones with her fellow Red Sister for a moment, She mutters to Morillin, "... antagonize... Morillin. Remember,... to speak at... If he admits that he... at... Ajah,... earned... will..."

Coliena nods and looks up from the book to ask, "I was wondering how long you have been channeling, and how it first began, if you know, and if you do not, how you realized what you were doing?"

Yuluriss mutters to Morillin, "... to see... him.... the welts. It would not... good... all."

Morillin gives her head a small toss, folding her arms tightly as she does so. "Perhaps," she mutters to her fellow Red without removing her gaze from Karaul.

Karaul ignores the two's muted words, attention falling fully on the woman speaking with him, "I still cannot remember when it first began, as you insinuate, I did not realize what was going on for a couple months. Maybe if they'd caught me then, I'd be more apt to beleive each and every word regarding my 'affliction'." he chuckles, obviously not agreeing with how he refered to it, "It has been a little over a year that I have known what I was doing Sedai." he says bluntly.

Coliena nods, writing some more, finding another group of questions, "How did you realize in the end? And a full year and no sign of madness yet? Interesting...." She could start to ramble here, but she catches herself and contents to writing.

Karaul shrugs, "It was all very sudden, what was going on just clicked in my mind." he says, glancing towards the floor for a moment, "And if, as was said moments ago..." he adds, gesturing towards Morillin, "my not wishing to be gentled is a sign of madness, I'm surely long gone in that category Sedai." he smiles lightly.

Coliena blinks and looks up, then shakes her head, "No. I can quite understand why you would wish to continue to channel, young man. I do not think of that as maddness." She blinks and frowns at herself for letting her mouth run in front of four Reds. She clears her throat and asks another question, "Do you remember any specific time that you channeled?"

Karaul grins as she speaks the first bit, though not responding with more then a small nod. He sighs, slightly frustrated as he responds, "Any time you want to know in particular Sedai?"

Yuluriss whispers at length to Morillin

Coliena tilts her head, "Could you discribe at least one event you can remember expecially, so that I can have one for my book." She continues to write thoughts on the side of the pages.

Morillin gives Yuluriss a cool stare, before replying softly.

Yuluriss returns Morillin's cool stare before returning in kind.

Yuluriss turns abruptly after having finished her discourse and glides toward the door of the dungeon.

Coliena blinks and glances up as the Red walks off, then goes back to writing.

Morillin sniffs quietly to herself.

Karaul nods quickly, thinking for a moment, "The one most clear in my mind was during battle. A fade tearing at our ranks, and though I had decided to never channel again, I pulled at the power. It came easily, although the usual fight was still present. I forced fire into tendrils down my spear, and can still see them striking at the Fade." he sighs, glancing to the floor for a moment, before returning his eyes to the women, glancing off as the one leaves abruptly.

Karaul adds quickly, "Although as I have said to my last 'guest', I shall give my oath to do you know harm, should this shield be dropped for even a few minutes Sedai. My recollection of such a recent event shall surely be more clear."

Coliena copies everything down as quickly as possible, trying not to miss a word, "And I assume this was when other realized as well, yes? And rumor got to the Red Ajah?"

Morillin sneers at Karaul. "Your oath is meaningless here. The shield will remain until it is no longer needed."

Coliena throws a look at Morillin and asks in an annoyed voice, "Will you please hold you comments until I am finished, sister?"

Yuluriss carefully makes her way up the stairs. The two Reds maintaining the shield on Karaul exchange tight smiles as Morillin turns to look down at Coliena. "Why should I hold my tongue when he speaks such idiocy, sister? You would probably take the shield away just so you could have something else to record in your book."

Coliena sniffs in her own fashion. "I would not remove the shield for research. His word is more than enough. I do not need a demonstration."

Karaul shakes his head quickly, "As far as I know today, it was taken as works of the Dark by those few who had the time to see him engulfed in flames." he sighs, grinning devilishly for a moment, "It was not seen as such as I did nearly the same to a mass of Trollocs, although they got a much stronger dose." he continues to smile, turning to the Red again, "I am learning to hand over no trust of my own here, for I am also given little to none." he says with a small bow of his head.

Morillin shakes her head. "He can channel," she reminds Coliena bluntly. "If you wish to believe his fool oath, perhaps you deserve whatever he does to you." Flicking a glance at Karaul, she adds after a moment, "There are some who will swear anything for a chance at freedom. Darkfriends, for example."

Coliena stares at Morillin, "He may be able to channel, but he did not ask for it, and he is still a man. I will believe him until he gives me a reason not to. And I do not think this one is a Darkfriend, Morillin."

Karaul chuckles softly at the banter of the two, stopping as she speaks the last line, and inquisitive brow raising, "As I should know Sedai. I have been defied by just those you speak of, to see shadowspawn tear apart my brethren because of it. If you wish not for my trust, continue to give me none and leave me in squallor."

Morillin says "Darkfriend or not, he is too dangerous to loose. You know that, Coliena, so do not allow your heart to rule your mind. Just because I am Red does not mean I want this one to suffer. I do not. But he must be gentled, and until then, he must be shielded. There is nothing else for him." Turning to Karaul, she adds, "It is not entirely a matter of trust. There are traditions and laws which bind Aes Sedai as surely as anyone else."

Coliena grumbles under her breath, "I said I did not want him unshielded. I wish Reds would listen once and a while." She's really not happy. She goes back to her book and writes down some more stuff angerly.

Karaul straightens somewhat, trying to gain as much height as he can, "Then maybe such traditions should be changed Sedai. And just maybe, the losses should be weighed more on both sides of gentling men such as me. I have done no evil, yet find myself surrounded by dank stone walls, awaiting what will ultimately bring my death." he sighs, "Time will bring the truth upon us all."

Coliena frowns slightly, then continues to write quickly, murmuring how this will make a great book.

Morillin says "Do not presume to lecture me, Karaul. You know why you are here. True, you did not ask to touch saidin, but you can, and you have. Men like you Broke the world once. That will not happen again. Blame the Dark One, not Aes Sedai, for your fate."

Karaul shakes his head slowly with closed eyes, "I fear you do not beleive I realize what I am, or what men like me have done. Who doesn't know? But while the Dark One might have began this fate, you Aes Sedai merely continue his work in destroying us." he says, slamming the bars with a tight fist, eyes opening again slowly, slowly realizing what he has just spoke and untensing his fist as he takes a step back.

Coliena watches the man carefully, frowning softly, then she goes back to writing as quickly as possible, trying to catch every word.

Morillin smiles tightly. "'Continuing His work'? You make us sound like Darkfriends, Karaul. Unwitting ones, perhaps, but a dangerous thing to say nonetheless. If we did nothing, men like you would go mad and ravage the world again. You wish this to happen? Hopefully you do not. None of us wish that. Gentling men who can channel is the only way to prevent that destruction."

Karaul quirks a brow, a bit of his will rising up yet again as he takes a step forward again, though this time less forceful and more curious, "Though I am not one to say you should do nothing. Merely that you appear to wish to deal with us as little as you can, getting us out of your hair, wandering mindlessly around your grounds, no longer to worry you. Maybe I should commend you for taking such an easy way out of 'your' problem. I do not presume to have a solution, merely that there is one that is surely to the better of we both."

Coliena sighs softly and finally says something, "Karaul. My sister and I are in no position to do anything about the law at the moment. Surely no time in which would do you any good."

Morillin says quietly but firmly, "No, there is not. You must be cut off from saidin, and we must do it to you ourselves. None of us like it, but that is what the Wheel has woven. I suggest you accept your fate and find something to fill the emptiness when the Power is taken from you." Turning away, she says, "I must go. Light illumine you both."

Karaul bows his head in return, "As you wish Sedai. May the Light honour you." he adds, turning his attention back to the brown quickly.Coliena nods her head toward Morillin, "Have a good evening, sister."Morillin carefully makes her way up the stairs.Karaul sighs deeply, still shaking his head, "It seems your questioning was halted Sedai, I apologize. Now where were we...." he says, glancing towards the exit for a moment again.

Coliena looks down at her book, "Um. You had just described the time when you killed that Fade. Would you like to add anything else? Perhaps, a more... gentle time when you used the power, the Healing perhaps? I want to be sure I show everyone who reads this that you did more than destory things."

Karaul grins, "As I told my last 'guest', I had a hard time summoning fire. Healing seemed more complex, but was how it all began." he says, squinting as he looks to the floor in thought, "Which also makes it harder to recollect..." he sighs, trying to remember, "It usually took my full concentration, and tired out those who I worked with, though usually they were nearly unconcious anyway."

Coliena nods, writing down some more, "What about with Air? Do you remember ever lifting anything or anyone?"

Karaul chuckles lightly, gesturing to his beaten face, "This was gained because I threw one of the Red Sedai trying to catch me." he smiles, returning to leaning against the bars, "I found little time to use the power for more then aid, because the more forceful aspects do not lend to being hidden."

Coliena raises an eyebrow and smirks, "I see. I wonder why no one healed you. Have you asked to have the bruises healed?"

Karaul smirks himself, "The six who 'escorted' me here wouldn't have let the thought cross their mind. And on arrival, I chose to keep them, as a message I guess." he grins.

Coliena nods, "Of course. What about Water? Do you ever remember doing anything with Water?" Obviously she is trying to cover all things possible in this book.

Karaul sighs, "Some, though most often accompaning other forces." he says, about to begin speaking, yet halting himself, glancing over the woman curiously for a moment before lowering a tilted brow, "I have pulled impurities from water, though never trusted myself much with far gone liquids."

Karaul chuckles softly, "How about I make you an agreement Sedai, and this time one fully within your grasp?" he adds soon after finishing his last lines.

Coliena blinks as she is finished writing and looks up, "An agreement? An agreement would do nicely, what kind of agreement?"

Karaul smiles, leaning closer to the bars, "I shall attempt to recollect everything I have done with Saidin, and tell you straight out, instead of you continueing to ask of each." he says, leaning back for a moment.

Coliena laughs softly, "That sounds like a marvelous idea. Thank you." She seems quite pleased, smiling brightly.

Karaul smiles a little brighter for a moment, "You merely need to answer a few questions of mine, which should be fairly simple."

Coliena blinks, then nods, "Fair enough. I will answer to the best of my ability."

Karaul nods, smile reverting to a grin as he begins to speak, "I will assume the Sedai here can aid a man cut by a Fade's blade?"

Coliena blinks, "Some of the best Healers can, if they get to them in time. But my Talents lay elsewhere. I am not much of a Healer." In time would likely mean, two seconds later.

Karaul nods, "It came more from intuition for me, as I encountered the wound while aiding a comrade. Much more difficult, though I've only had a chance with small wounds. " he sighs, turning around and walking back slowly, "I do not know about this Shield though upon me. I think I might be able to do similiar if given the chance." he says, turning to face her again, "Though I know not how it's made, it has caused me to think and be curious. Could you tell me more?" he says, slowly returning to the bars.

Coliena frowns slightly, "More on what?" She seems to be halfway dreamy after she jots down what you say again, with that interested expression.

Karaul sighs, "I guess my curiousity is illfounded anyway, seeing I shall never touch the source again." he says, "Nevermind, it gives me something to ponder during the dark hours." he chuckles, leaning against the bars again, evidently growing tired of them, "I found the actual act of throwing the Red Sedai difficult, it turning into more of a forceful push. I included more then air though, but can not remember exactly what. The moment happened too swiftly."

Coliena nods and writes some more, "Spirit perhaps, or Earth. I have heard some try to weave Earth with Air to make the flows more solid..." She trails off as she writes more.

Karaul nods, growing interested some himself, "Most of what I do does not contain the thought though of what should be included, much more spontaneous. I never even thought to refer to it as you have until speaking of it with the Sedai." he smiles lightly.

Coliena nods, "Of course, you are like a Wilder. Find the power by yourself and learn to channel it by yourself." She frowns. "I have a question, if I may ask it, two actually."

Karaul shrugs with a smirk, "I am in no position to refuse Sedai, so ask."

Coliena nods, "My questions are, do you ever rememer a time when you acted oddly for about a month, and then suddenly came down with an illness, shivers, cold and hot but turns, fevers, but not lasting more than a few hours? And my second question is, do you ever have to have a certain item, or be doing a certain thing when you channel and find yourself unable to channel when you don't have that thing, or don't feel that emotion?"

Karaul thinks for a moment, though seeming fairly shocked at the question, "I was ill when I first realized what was going on, but that was more in my mind then anything else I have decided. And I can channel whenever I please, that is, when this shield isn't here." he chuckles.

Coliena hmms thoughtfully, "The illness like a Wilder, yet no block... interesting..." she trails off to write more down. "But when you reach out sometimes you can't get to it, am I right? Or are you always able to reach saidin?"

Karaul sighs, shaking his head with some restraint, "At first, yes. I'd realize it was a loosing battle and push it away. Before I knew what was going on, it was as if I shook off the sensation. Around the time of my 'capture', it came fairly easily except for one in a hundred."

Coliena nods and smiles, "Very good. You trained yourself well it seems. Many novices here have a hard time finding saidar for months and months, and that is with guidance. But then saidin is different."

Karaul shrugs, "As I've been able to gleam from the few conversations I've had with the women here." he grins, "I guess I am just lucky." he chuckles, nodding slowly.

Coliena raises an eyebrow slightly, "Luck. That could be what it was, and hopefully after... your trial, your luck will remain and keep you alive. The Red Sister was right though, it would be best if you found something else to live for."

Karaul nods slowly, "As I have heard. Yet I have gained no information as to what I might be able to find, constantly locked within these walls. I assume I will find a knife in time, and end it the easy way." he sighs, stepping away from the bars, looking to the floor sadly for a time.

Coliena stays silent for a while, then starts and remembers to write everything down.

Once done, Coliena looks up and says, "Perhaps you will end it the easy way, but I do not see you as the type to give up."

Karaul sighs, returning his somewhat blurry eyes to her again, "Indeed, but there is much for me to have to fill up, that has left. My entire family was slaughtered during that Trolloc attack, and now I shall be given another vast emptiness. I guess we shall see though."

Coliena nods, "We shall see." She frowns, then asks, "Would you mind if I write an entire book about you? Your life before and after the trial so to say?"

Karaul idly gestures an accepting hand with a quick shrug, "Do as you wish Sedai, I'm sure few that have been written of were asked approval. I merely hope to be able to give it some interesting length." he sighs.

Coliena laughs softly, "I hope so as well. Maybe it will help if you keep a daily journal, that way I could not only have quotes in your own words without having to pester you every day, but then maybe it can help you realize what you do have to live for. Maybe if you wrote down a few things each day that you are thankful to be alive for. Even if it's just a bird's song that you heard. It might help."

Karaul smiles softly, "I shall try Sedai. And I hope my words are at least somewhat fluent, for writing has never been one of my greater skills." he chuckles, glancing towards the floor again, "Has any man ever lived very long here Sedai, if I might ask?" he says, eyes slowly raising.

Coliena stays silent for a moment, "Yes, a very few, men who have channeled have been able to live for a time after they have been gentled, but like women who have been stilled or burnt out, they had to find something to live for. Usually, with the women, we try to marry them off, thinking a family and children will fill in the empty space. With men..."

Karaul raises his eyes to hers, widening slightly as he awaits the words to follow, desperately.

Coliena sighs slightly, "With men we usually just keep them here to make sure they don't harm themsleves or anyone else, but if you would like I could appeal to the Amyrlin for at least the ability to leave tower grounds unescourted as long as you stayed in the city. I can not promise more than an appeal though."

Karaul chuckles, "I've heard discontent in the voices of all who speak of such, except for a Red Sedai or two." he grins, "Thank you for the offer, yet I still have not had the deed done to me. It might not be as bad as I've heard." he smiles, yet still evidently not beleiving the words himself.

Rayche enters the dungeon from the flight of stairs.

Rayche stomps in, arguing with someone, her voice a gruff rumble. She ends it with, "Enough of your foolishness!" The unseen arguer subsides, and she turns into the room.

Coliena smiles brightly from where she is sitting at the table next to the bars taking notes in a book. "That is the kind of attitude I like hearing. Keep that up and you may set records." She blinks and jumps visably at the new voice and looks toward the entrance.

Karaul slowly moves his eyes to the newcomer to the dank surroundings. He raises an eyebrow slightly, recognizing the face and voice.

Karaul smiles lightly, leaning relaxingly against the bars, letting his attention jump between the two.

Rayche stomps into view. "Well, Coliena, have you discovered anything new?" She nods to Karaul.

Karaul nods a greetings, softly responding, "Sedai...." then keeping out of the two's conversation, taking the moment to look over all the Sedai in the room curiously, as always.

Coliena nods slightly and looks down at her notes, "One thing that might interest the Yellows, it seems that he might be as good, if not better, at Healing than some of the best Yellows. He claimed to have been able to heal a man injured by a Fade's sword. As you know that is very hard to do, expecially if the Sister isn't directly beside the one injured at the exact moment he is injured."

Karaul shrugs, although whether being modest or truthful it is unknown, "I would doubt if I was so good Sedai. I have healed such, but soon after the blow was dealt, as long as the situation allowed." he adds, glancing to the side a moment.Rayche hmmms. "Interesting, indeed. Anything that might help clean the taint?"

Coliena asks, "But how soon? Even a minute would be remarkable." She blinks and looks back at Rayche, blushing slightly, "I haven't quite gotten that far yet. I wanted to figure out the basics of saidin first."

Karaul smirks with a quick shake of his head, "I guess it shall never be known, at least in my lifetime." he adds disgustedly.

Rayche leans against a wall, watching. "I didn't mean to interrupt, Sister. Please, carry on, I'll watch."

Karaul turns his attention to both, yet moreso on the Brown, other thoughts apparently distracting him.

Coliena looks down at her notes, "Let's see... what haven't we covered. Oh. Of course. Earth. We didn't really cover Earth."

Karaul sighs, thinking it over for a moment, "Earth would have forever been to blunt for me, as much, if not more then fire. I'd twist a Trolloc's weapon in his hands. I also used it along with water, for as I said earlier, purifications of water, if you can call it that." he chuckles lightly.

"Purifications?" Rayche breaks in, despite her promise to keep quiet; its into something that comes naturally to the old Red.

Coliena jots down a few notes, allowing the man a chance to answer the Red.

Karaul turns his attention lightly, "Helps in pulling various minerals out of water. Of course, I used some Fire to help, along with air." he says, grinning warmly, "It still feels strange referring to it all as such."

Coliena nods and continues to take more notes while she can.

Rayche nods, grunting her satisfaction, and subsides.

Karaul nods with satisfaction, "If I had the chance to call upon the power again, after all this, I'm sure my curiousity would be too much." he smiles, "The new light on things surely opens some doors." he says, smile leaving soon after.

Coliena tilts her head after she is finished, "Well there is only one power left really, Spirit, though there is little you can do with pure Spirit. Do you ever recall any time you.. had a strange dream perhaps, or were able to keep the Trollocs away without doing anything really... flashy."

Karaul shakes his head slowly as he thinks it over, "We all have strange dreams, and I'm sure mine are nothing different. And there was always something physical that made a Trolloc flee, if they fled at all." he grimaces slightly in memory.

Coliena nods and makes some more notes, frowning thoughtfully. She glances over at Rayche, "Did any of the sisters get shielded when they captured him? I am wondering if he figured out how to shield before he was taken." She doesn't even bother to lower her voice, only caring about learning.

Rayche says, "I dunno. I wasn't on the run that went after 'em."

Coliena nods sadly, "I will have to ask someone who was then..." Then she turns back to the man and smiles, "Anything else you have done with the power you have not told me about?"

Karaul shakes his head, "To my knowledge, I shielded no one. It's still a mystery to me how the one on me works, though I might pick it up if I ever channel again." he shrugs quickly, "Not that seems out of the ordinary in the slightest Sedai."

Coliena nods, "Alright. Sister?" She turns to Rayche, "Would you like to begin, or continue, your questions now. I will just sit here and takes notes for a while, then I need to go back up. I have a lecture on History to give."

Karaul nods slightly, glancing between the two as they speak.

Rayche snorts. "Better you than me. Bloody history lecture I gave was a bust. I asked him most of my questions last night--I'm thinking of trying a Spirit probe through the shield--but I don't know how well that would work, and spirit is /not/ my strongest." She's just weird. As a Red, you'd think she'd want to be better in Spirit.
