Logger: Kelsyn
Date: February 19, 1998
Place: Tar Valon and the White Tower
Summary: Kelsyn and Atalanta confront Ninian about the traitor Thrain. Later they encounter Lord Linden Asher of Cairhien
Jelanna is sitting on one of the shaden benches, apparently reading from a small book. She looks up at the crunching of boot heels on the gravel of the courtyard, and a single brow raises at the thunderstorm on two legs that stalks by.
Nata enters the Courtyard through an opening in the large wall surrounding the Practice Yard.
Kelsyn continues on through the Tower until he gets to Atalanta's room...
Atalanta's Room: White Tower, Tar Valon
The looking form of Kelsyn barges into Lanta's room without so much as a knock or a by you leave. He does not notice the others as he starts to rage in an angered voice, "Aes Sedai, you've got to talk to those that -you- keep in your employ." His voice is cold and his eyes are like ice, swirling in a raging storm of snow.
Atalanta flinches. "Adriene, Chiara, you may leave. Now."
Chiara sighs deeply and thinks this goes all the wrong way, and her voice becomes more harder, soft yet not the same, "Thats the same as for Kolby, he cannot stay with you, you decided so. That was your responsibility and you took it that way and now when I make sure he will be happy with that you do not like it." her eyes grow wide on the words of Kelsy and the monsters reactioni and rising, curtseying she looks surprised and thenr uns away.
Adriene blinks and looks at Kelsyn enter. Quickly wiping away her tears she curtsies and picks up Kolby to carry him out of the room.
Kelsyn's feet come to a stop as his stony eyes rest upon the students within. His gaze is far from happy and he does not hide it behind a stoic expression, anger raging freely. He stands tall, and if looks could account for anything he might, with his scowled expression, scare the bejesus off of any sane person.
Atalanta rises to her feet. "What is the matter?"
Kelsyn's eyes continue to glower, "That idiot you call an eyes and ears member, Thrain, seems to think he can take Tar Valon justice into his own hand and cut off the hands of those who allegedly steal for others." His voice is gruff and his words are angered, his eyes continuing to swirl, "Lucky for him the Guard arrived or he would have faced a worse fate than the one he accused and he did so -after- he and that other bloody fool in the infirmary were ordered to cease their fight."
Atalanta 's eyes go wide. "Where is the fool now?" Her voice is hard.
Kelsyn growls, "The fool guardsmen -let- him go."
Atalanta frowns. "I must think."
"Under normal circumstances I would not care a whit about whatever fights go on within the city, but when it's happening near the Tower they have two flamin' options... That's either stop and take it somewhere else, or be torn apart by my blade." From the look in Kelsyn's eyes he seems dead serious, "I will not have bloody common people endangering the lives of those within the Tower, being -my- duty to protect them and yourself, and I by the Light I will make sure any such occurance stops."
"I plan to as well," Atalanta says. "I believe it is time to put the fear of the creator into yon Thrain...and to release him from my employ. Come. Let us find the fool."
Kelsyn and Atalanta leave the Tower, heading for the courtyard.
Courtyard: White Tower, Tar Valon
Atalanta stalks into the courtyard and out of the gates, Kelsyn on her heels.
Linden enters the Courtyard, glancing at the shining walls and stairways glistening around him. He whispers to one of the two men in unrelieved black that accompany him, recieving an answering nod and a short bow before the man walks back out into the city.
Atalanta passes through the SouthHarbor Gate under the watchful eyes of the Tower Guards.
Kelsyn comes out of the doors with Lanta, an icy expression upon raging features. He moves behind her much like a predator does his prey.
SouthHarbor Road: Tar Valon, Tar Valon
Ninian opens the doors from Will's Tavern, and leaves the tavern.
Kelsyn comes out of the gates with Lanta, an icy expression upon raging features. He moves behind her much like a predator does his prey. His hand lies closest to his sword as his eyes scan the street for signs of a particular person.
Atalanta 's eyes scan the street for a particular person as well. She motions to Ninian, "You, child. Come here."
Ninian is startled at the sight of the Aes Sedai and meekly walks over, "Yes Aes Sedai, how may I help you?
"I am looking for a man." Briefly, the Blue Sister gives a description of Thrain. "I would know where he is, if you have seen him."
Ninian stutters, "I- I'm s- sorry Aes Sedai, but I have not seen him today."
"Today?" Atalanta looks at Ninian. "Today. You see him often, then?"
Kelsyn appears to scowl at the girl, "That girl was present during the fight last evening. Master Thrain was coddling her after he toook the other man's hand." His words still come out angered as he informs Lanta of the occurance.
Ninian bites her bottom lip and looks at the ground, "Yes, Aes Sedai, we are to married, so I see him quite often."
Atalanta nods and says cooly, "When you see your wayward fiancee, inform him that Atalanta Sedai will see him at the White Tower, and that he is not to delay. Should I have to wait more than three days for his appearance, I will send out a party to have him arrested. I expect one who serves the White Tower, and me, to conduct himself a certain way, and he has stepped over the line. Repeat the message, girl! Not a single word missing will I abide."
Ninian is near tears, "Yes Atalanta Sedai, I will. I will give him your message."
Atalanta looks at Ninian over the rims of her glasses. "Repeat my message, girl, word for word."
Kelsyn stands just behind Atalanta, his stony eexpression eminating a mask o distinct displeasure with this entire situation. "Further add I have to find him instead of the guards, he may find a missing appendage when next we meet." His words are said so cold and hard and without feeling and emotion, it's enough to frighten any sane person.
Ninian gulps, "I will tell him that Atalanta Sedai will see him at the White Tower, and that he is not to delay, and if you must wait more than three days for his appearance then you will have a party sent out to arrest him. You expect some one that works for the White Tower to act a certain way and that he stepped over the line.
Atalanta nods curtly. "Very good. You are not to breathe a word of this to anyone else, girl."
Ninian stutters, "Y- Yes A- Aes Sedai, as you command."
Kelsyn continues to stare at the girl which Atalanta speaks to, his gaze never shredding any sort of feeling or emotion. He crosses his hands behind him, looking very much like a predator in wait.
Atalanta nods curtly, and turns in a swirl of skirts back for the Tower.
Ninian bites her lip harder then begins to sob.
Atalanta walks to the northwest, entering the SouthHarbor Gate, under the watchful eye of the Tower Guard.
Kelsyn walks off after Atalanta, looking coiled for a kill, strides smooth and even.
Courtyard: White Tower, Tar Valon
Sionil also curtseys towards Lanta's wallholderuperwarder
Morillin is speaking with Nata, her normally serene expression distinctly lacking. In fact, she looks mad enough to chew rocks. "There are a good many things I do not want people snooping through, sister," she replies, her voice soft and icy. "Surely that is not such a surprise?"
Atalanta stalks in, looking quite unhappy.
Kelsyn comes stalking through the gates once more, with the grace and stealth of a trained killer. His features are impassive and devoid of any emotion, though his eyes swirl with icy anger, raging in a silent storm.
Linden taps a finger thoughtfully against his lips as he continues to consider something across the Courtyard, turning hsi attention on the young woman before him only after observing to his satisfaction. "Perhaps you may, young lady, perhaps you may. I am looking for...a young man. He stands perhaps a few inches shorter than yourself, with dark, nearly black hair and rather gray eyes. Have you seen such a person?"
Sionil glances at Linden and Jelanna and walks closer to the pair
Nata responds calmly. "Indeed. Most of us may say the same thing. What do you plan to do?
The man at Linden's side says something softly, indicating Kelsyn with a nod of his head.
Morillin snorts quietly. "I have been questioning those who might have seen anything, but so far I have turned up nothing. It was a Novice, of course. Probably more than one. And they had best pray I never discover who they are."
Jelanna stiffens slightly at the rather condescending attitude of the man, before she catches herself and a mask of cool hateur cloaks her as she says "We have several young men here who might fit that description, can you be more specific.....such as a name?" The last is uttered with just a *trace* of sarcasm.
Boot heels click against the stone walk of the courtyard as Kelsyn's clipped gate keeps up with Atalanta's strides with confidence and ease. Still, even though he is following the Aes Sedai the rage does not seem to leave his eyes, that stoic expression ever present as if he lives his life within the vast emptiness of the void. To those in the yard he gives no glance, though those with the training of a Gaidin might know that he misses not much.
Atalanta glances around the courtyard. She looks over at the situation which Jelanna appears to be handling.
Sionil watches close to Jelanna over the man (men?) quietly.
Nata nods slowly. "I wish you luck in finding out what you wish to know.
Morillin gives her shawl another tug or two, nodding her head in Atalanta's direction when she sees her. "Thank you," she mutters to Nata.
To Lanta- Through the bond, all this time, you could feel the boiling rage that seems to have stemmed from the altercation he got involved in earlier.
BOND- Reassurance, and Atalanta's own calm, float back to you.
Linden watches Kelsyn cross the Courtyard with a guarded expression, leaning over to mutter something quietly to his Guard behind a hand before turning his gaze back on Jelanna, "A name is easily changed, girl, while one's appearence is more intractable. He was called Jaearin, although I do not know his House name."
Sionil slightly frowns, and she idly lifts up her left hand a little, fingering the serpent ring upon it.
Melli walks down the steps into the Courtyard, after pushing through the main doors of the Tower.
Kelsyn pauses directly behind Lanta Sedai when she stops to look Jelanna over. Catching the glances in his direction, the Gaidin's eyes appear to narrow back in almost a silent challenge, still no expression there within his raging blue eyes. "Do you have a problem with my presense sirs?" He speaks in a gruff voice, that air of a predator moving about it. It seems the Gaidin is already in a foul mood, very little does it take to make it grow fouler.
Atalanta stands near Kelsyn, looking up at him, concern.
Morillin turns her attention to the Cairhienin men as Kelsyn speaks, her more usual cool serenity appearing once more as she looks them over.
Melli slips into a curtsey the moment she steps out of the tower, to each Aes Sedai and Accepted... thenm with her notebook, she wanders over to a bench, oblivious to whatever is happening for the moment.
Jelanna seems to consider the man's words before she sniffs slightly and says "Sir, the Tower is not in the habit of harboring criminals. However, since it is a man you seek and there are any number within the Tower walls who might meet your criteria I suggest you speak with the Master of Arms, Gould Gaidin." Her tone is not exactly sharp, but is one that demands attention of those listening to it.
Amara walks down the steps into the Courtyard, after pushing through the main doors of the Tower.
Melli stands and curtseys to the newest arrived Sedai, her eyes tending to roam over towards the confrontation..
Amara steps out quietly, pausing to study the people in the courtyard before walking down the steps to join them.
Trivan strides out of the practice yard and bows to the Aes Sedai, Gaidin, and Accpeted as he notes their presence. He glances once toward the strangers and moves to a quiet place to the side to observe.
Sionil stands right behind Jelanna, fingering her serpent ring, as the pair of accepted watch over the Cairhienian and his guard, not seeing the Aes Sedai exit.
Atalanta stands, arms crossed, by Kelsyn.
Kelsyn stands nearby Atalanta, his eyes silently raging in an icty storm as he stares down Linden and his guard with a predatory glance upon his features. It appears he's waiting; perhaps for an answer to his question.
Linden places a restraining, calming hand on the arm of his guard as he turns slightly to address the dangerous man, "I am newly arrived to Tar Valon, swordsman, but I had heard that guests were treated with greater...respect." He shrugs slightly, "Perhaps I was mistaken." he adds before turning back to the women before him. The guard's attention however, remains on Kelsyn.
Nata stands beside Morillin at the stairs, speaking quietly with her from time to time.
Amara glances over at Kelsyn and Atalanta, then looks to Linden. She leans on her staff, casually, watching.
Morillin turns to watch Amara for a moment, then returns her attention to Linden. She gives her head a small shake as she catches the Cairhienin man's words, and says quietly, "Arrogant. Why am I not surprised?"
"No disrespect have I shown you." Kelsyn snorts as he watches Linden and his guardsman, "I asked if you had a problem with my presense and you talk around the question as if it were not posed. Do not think I had not noticed your stares in my direction, and not once have I posed a threat to yourself and your... guest." His eyes fall upon Linden's guard but his predatory gaze does not leave his features, eyes continuing to swirl in his raging storm. "I'd suggest you speak more plainly, Aes Sedai appreciate it more."
Trelaine walks down the steps into the Courtyard, after pushing through the main doors of the Tower.
Mara walks down the steps into the Courtyard, after pushing through the main doors of the Tower.
Atalanta lifts a brow in Linden's direction as she stands beside her gaidin.
Melli dots somehting in her notes.. then rises to curtsey to the arriving Accepted, trying not to show too much interest in the exchange betwen teh Cairhienin and the tower folk.
Trelaine comes walking out of the tower and stops at the top of the stairs, raising an eyebrow. Quite a crowed today. With a slight shake of her head, for unknown reasons, Trelaine curtsies, then makes her way down the stairs.
Jelanna turns to look at Kelsyn Gaidin, her expression perhaps suggesting that she can handle this without this little show of male prowess, and then tells Linden with a request that in fact sounds more like a command than anything else "If you will follow me, you can wait in the common lounge and I will go and see if Master Gould can see you today."
Linden chuckles, genuine amusement breaking across his face, "Aes Sedai? Appreciate straight-forwardness? I hadn't noticed..."
Trelaine frowns deeply at that remark.
Amara's eyes narrow, ever so slightly.
Trivan 's glance rests steadily on the man who is standing with his guards. He remains silent, observing. A bow is presented to those who entered since his last bow.
Melli widens her eyes, then quickly makes a show of focussing her attention on her notes.
Amara takes a couple steps closer, "I suggest, armsman, that you go with the Accepted and complete your business with the Tower in a timely fashion."
Atalanta chuckles softly, though her humor does not touch her eyes. "Nevertheless, from time to time, we do. So...if you would be so kind as to answer if you have a problem with Kelsyn Gaidin, and what it is, I would appreciate it greatly. If you have no problem, clearly stating this, as well, would be appreciated. You see? You do not know all there is to know about Aes Sedai, it seems."
Sionil hearing the voice behind her, turns slightly to see the population of the courtyard grown slightly, she gives a curtsey to the newly entered Aes Sedai.
Amara glances at Atalanta, and subsides slightly, just watching Linden.
Mara curtseys at the foot of the stairs.
That scowl upon Kelsyn's features appear to grow even darker at the comment toward the Cairhienin, "It is not polite to insult those within the Tower while they stand before you, -Master-" He deliberately downplays the man's true title. This is about the time that anyone who can sense danger would have an overload on their senses as Kelsyn's voice holds that exact tone to it, his eyes swirling even brighter with rage. His hands fold from behind him and one drops to his side, "I suggest apoligizing or leaving." There's a look that's not right within his eyes.
Trelaine sits down on the Garden Bench.
Morillin gives Linden a smile. A small, cold smile that doesn't come close to touching her eyes. Leaning close to Nata, she says in a voice perhaps meant to carry, "I wonder why the girl puts up with his attitude at all. One of us should teach him something of the humility we expect from visitors to the Tower." Then she chuckles, softly, to herself, still watching Linden.
Trelaine sits down on a bench. Whatever it was she came out to do has been forgotten, and Trelaine turns towards those in the Courtyard, almost as if observing and disecting their behavior.
Nata watches this interplay between personages more in the courtyard proper. Her eyes widen slightly at Kelsyn's tone and she looks at Lanta, eyes growing somewhat troubled.
To Lanta- Cold rage, stronger than before moves through the bond. Warning lights are going off.
Melli sits down on the North Wall Bench.
Linden smooths his expression, noticing he now seems to be the center of attention of the many assorted people in the Courtyard. He pauses for a thoughtful moment as he attempts to reply to each comment in a timely fashion. "My apologies, swordsman. I did not realize that a simple glance carried such weight here. Now so informed, I will strive to be more careful with such wanton stares in the future."
BOND- Reassurance.
"This is a good thing." Atalanta says, smoothly. "Now then, I believe Jelanna was taking you to wait somewhere." A clear dismissal.
Amara scoffs, "Enough of this male posturing."
Mara curtseys again and walks up the stairs.
Mara walks up the steps and goes through the main doors of the Tower.
"That was not the request, you apologize to them not me." Kelsyn speaks, not subsiding at Atalanta's words, eyes still swirling. He gives a nod of his head to those Sedai present.
Morillin gives Amara a faint smile, probably in agreement.
Gould walks down the steps into the Courtyard, after pushing through the main doors of the Tower.
Sionil gives a curtsey towards Gould
Trelaine glances towards the doors of the Tower as they open and close. Upon seeing the Gaidin, Trelaine stands and curtsies respectfully to him, then she returns to her seat. However, her disecting blue eyes never leave the center of the commotion.
To Lanta- The reassurance does not seem to calm him much, if at all.
Gould comes down the steps and without a glance or search makes his way to the side of his Ward.
Melli rises and curtseys as well.. then sits back down.
Morillin flicks a glance at Gould as he approaches, then looks back at Linden.
Linden expression chills at the tone of Kelsyn's remark, "I do not take kindly to commands, swordsman. I will apologize, or not, at my own discretion." He turns to Jelanna, obviously unwilling to speak with the volatile swordsman further, "Perhaps you could direct me to the Lounge, young lady?"
Nata glances over toward her warder, the troubled look in her eyes fading somewhat. She nods toward those gathered. "That one" she indicates with a glance. "Is seekins someone, and has been referred to you to see if you might know his location." She speaks in a low tone. "Seems some are rather tense and others ... " She shrugs. "You can see."
A chilly smile comes to Kelsyn's lips. He does not answer the pompus nobleman, though there is a look about him that suggests he'll remember him for the future, perhaps for old scores long down the road. His eyes remain narrowed, going just a bit more so. His expression is enough to chill most sane men, perhaps showing the insanity which is instilled in the one before you.
Morillin laughs quietly, resting her hands on her hips so her shawl is looped over her arms. "A pity we cannot stuff this one into a white dress and set him to scrubbing floors," she remarks, perhaps to Nata. "He would look quite handsome, on his hands and knees, I think."
Jelanna turns back towards the Tower to do just that, before catching sight of Gould. A somewhat relieved expression flickers across her face as she walks over towards him, "Master Gould, this gentleman was inquiring about a possible student we might have here in the Tower grounds. Since I am not aware of all the students we have currently training, perhaps you might help?"
Amara smiles, glancing over at Morillin.
Trelaine sniffs slightly to herself and looks elsewhere in the courtyard, finally.
Sionil moves aside for Gould to observe the man fully. 'Nil watches the 'noble's' guards.
Linden turns to the man at his side, murmurring something behind an obscuring hand. The man's stern demeanor cracks slightly at Linden's remark, lips quirking against his composure.
Trivan continues to watch quietly, neither adding nor interfering in the currents flowing between the two men in the courtyard. His eyes leave the 'discussion' to focus on Gould as if letting him know he is available if needed.
Melli's scribing hand freezes in midstroke... as does the rest of her. Perhaps so bette rto listen to the veiled threats floating about.
Amara looks over to Linden, "You'll not need your honor guard in the Tower. It would be best if they waited for you here, or perhaps refreshed themselves in the dining hall while you complete your business."
A soft snort emerges from Morillin's direction at the words 'honour guard'.
Amara keeps her expression solemn and business like, despite a brief flicker of a glance at Morillin.
All of Atalanta's attention remains on Kelsyn.
Morillin looks utterly serene, almost as if the snort hadn't come from her at all.
Gould Gaidin's presense does not seem to even make Kelsyn flinch. He keeps his gaze upon Linden as if he plans a thousand ways to skewer the man or tear him to pieces. Light only knows what's keeping this time bomb from going off, though bets are that it's the presense of Atalanta Sedai alone that stops him. His eyes remain chilly and swirling, predatory. He mumbles under his breath, though it appears quite audible, "Bloody Cairhienin fool'll see what stirring a hornets nest will get him." He snorts derivishly.
Linden appears to consider Amara's request for a moment before shaking his head, "Perhaps I should have my man nearby, Aes Sedai," he gestures vaguely in Kelsyn's direction, "I wouldn't want any...accidents...to befall him."
Melli remaines stiffly frozen in place. This isn't the best time to redirect attention to herself..
Sionil smiles vaguely "Nothing, accidental will occur." she does not add any sir to that.
Morillin smiles faintly. "You believe /you/ could protect him?" she murmurs.
Trelaine clears her throat, perhaps to cover the snort she nearly gave.
"The Tower does not have accidents, good man.." Kelsyn answers back, "Unlike those in Cairhien where entire houses get wiped out." His tone appears rather chilly in nature, and still quite dangerous.
A faint eyebrow lifts, and Atalanta looks at Linden as if he is being somewhat rude. "You come to the White Tower with a request, and yet do not trust its denizens enough to reliniquish your honor guard? We are not, as my Gaidin says, Cairhien, to have assassins about every corner."
Amara's gaze takes on a distinct chill.
Amara says "This is the Tower. Your man will come to no harm unless he intends harm."
Linden turns towards Kelsyn, "Then perhaps I should worry about something more...intentional? Nevertheless," he continues, favoring Morillin with a neutral expression, "What I ask involves this man as well, and his honor. He accompanies me." he says with an air of finality.
Trelaine shakes her head slightly, in a near huff.
Trelaine stands and rises from the Garden Bench.
"Try getting away speaking to the Amyrlin with that." Kelsyn's voice threatens as he starts moving toward the Tower, his nature still threatening.
Atalanta moves with Kelsyn.
Trelaine stands up and curtsies to the Aes Sedai and Gaidin in the courtyard. "If you will excuse me, Aes Sedai, the courtyard isn't as pleasent as it used to be."
Morillin says calmly, "You make that sound very like a demand. Of course, you do not appear to be an enormous fool, so perhaps I am mistaken." The slow lifting on her eyebrows says she doubts that, however.
Brec enters the Courtyard through an opening in the large wall surrounding the Practice Yard.
Kelsyn's demeanor becomes rigid in nature and his steps have more of a purpose than just going to the Tower. He mutters to Atalanta, "... ignorant fool'll have to... his... I've... to say..." Kelsyn storms toward the Tower, as if to take it himself.... or to the Amyrlin.
Atalanta senses "Kelsyn's demeanor becomes rigid in nature and his steps have more of a purpose than just going to the Tower. "That bloody ignorant fool'll have to pose his request to the Amyrlin herself if I've got anything to say about it." Kelsyn storms toward the Tower, as if to take it himself.... or to the Amyrlin."
Brec strolls in from the practice yard, just a touch of a "what-is-it-now" look on his face.
Atalanta simply nods, following Kelsyn.
Melli doesn't rise to curtsey this time.. she's too busy imitating a statue.
Trelaine curtsies once more then starts towards the gate with another sniff of disdain.
Trelaine passes through the Alindrelle Gates under the watchful eyes of the Tower Guards.
Linden sighs, "Perhaps the Toewr is threateded by the presence of two armed men then, Aes Sedai?" he asks of Morillin, "My request is not onerous, in fact to require a visitor to be stripped of his escort is most insulting in many courts. But then again, I'm sure that is a well-known fact here."
Amara's dark gaze stays level on Linden. "Then a trainee will accompany you as well, and when you are asked to relinquish your weapons you will do so, immediately. Or you will leave."
Linden chuckles, "Should I expect a blindfold as well?" he asks dryly of Amara.
Morillin shrugs. "This is not a mere court. This is the White Tower." Her tone makes it clear which is superior to the other.
Amara's eyebrows just arch slightly. "Do not tempt me."
