Two Punishments

Primary player: Megwyn
Also includes: Calandra, Analee, Ivaria, Darius, Chrisne, Sheanadara, Ashlynn, Marelain

Calandra answers politely, "Analee Sedai asked me to report to you or Sionil Sedai."

"And what did she ask you to report?" Megwyn puts down her pencil, giving the young woman her entire attention.

Calandra folds her hands in front of her and speaks calmly, "A matter of etiquette, Megwyn Sedai."

Megwyn motions Calandra to take a seat, "Well, don't keep me waiting. What is it?"

Calandra nods and seats herself, "I'm afraid that Analee Sedai believes I have no manners and am in need of a class on Etiquette, Megwyn Sedai."

Megwyn isn't one to beat around the bush when she sees no point in it, "Why?"

Calandra thinks for a moment before replying, "I believe she misinterpreted bluntness for rudeness, Megwyn Sedai. If she believes I need a class on Etiquette, I suppose I should take one."

Megwyn gives Calandra a look that could freeze water. "You believe. You will explain to me the situation and why you /believe/ Analee was mistaken." Obviously she does not think the other Aes Sedai was.

Calandra nods, "Yes Megwyn Sedai." she pauses slightly to take a breath before beginning. "Trainee Jaelyn and I were having a friendly conversation catching up on things. Neither of us had seen each other for a substantial time. He was one of my first friends here, Megwyn Sedai. We were just talking and Analee Sedai walked up and accused me of being rude." She remains calm and collected.

Megwyn's brows rise again, "And what was your response to Analee?"

Calandra frowns slightly, trying to remember, "Well, I believe I disagreed with her."

Megwyn rolls her eyes skyward. "And what do you think caused Analee to believe you were rude in the first place, Calandra?" She steeples her hands in front of her on the desk, her question obviously driving at something.

Calandra sighs slightly, "I was just talking to Jaelyn. We were minding our own business. I do not know, Megwyn Sedai."

Calandra honestly doesn't know what made Analee approach her the first time.

Calandra blinks slightly as something runs through her mind, "You don't think she thought I was flirting with him, do you?" She pales at that notion. "I wasn't, we're just friends."

Megwyn says, "Calandra, it occurs to me you have little idea of what you have done. Firstly, you are not to be associating with Trainees, no matter how close you may have been in your life before the Tower. As the burning of your clothing when you entered here should have taught you, you're past life is no longer of any consequence. As for the situation," She shuffles through the papers on her desk, "My reports indicate that you queried the trainee on a physical condition of his, even after you had been asked to desist. I don't know where you were brought up, Calandra. But in the Tower, this is extremely rude. You are not to speak of this topic with Jaelyn again until such time as you have received /his/ permission to do so." She raises a finger, "Nor do I wish to hear again of you pestering the other Trainees that.. suffer from a similar affliction. Additionally, since you seem to have time to spend with the trainees, I think double chore duty for this week will be appropriate. You are also to read Lilliane Sedai's book on proper etiquette and present me with a report at the end of the month. I want you to pay special attention on polite conversation and return to me for an oral report on why questioning someone on a personal matter after they've indicted the do not wish to speak of it is rude." She gives Calandra a sharp look, "To be so defensive, Calandra, it invites suspicion...""

Megwyn presses her lips together in a thin line. "You are forbidden to associate with the Trainee Jaelyn until you can convince me you are mature enough to do so in a polite and appropriate manner. It is your responsibility to figure out how to do this. You are dismissed."

Calandra shakes her head, still a bit pale, "I didn't know Jaelyn before the Tower, Megwyn Sedai. And I was studying at the time." she shuts her mouth and nods, "Yes, Megwyn Sedai."

Megwyn says, "Are you contradicting me, Calandra?"

Calandra shakes her head, "No, Megwyn Sedai."

"Lying is counter the three oaths, Calandra. See Analee and tell her she is to wash your mouth out with soap as a reminder we do not dirty it with untruths. That will be all." Megwyn picks up some of the papers off her desk and begins to leaf through them.

Calandra nods and leaves the room, still outwardly calm except for the slight paleness in her face.
Calandra has left.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
From: Megwyn Subject: Calandra's punishment
To: Sionil, Megwyn, Raemira, Analee
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

For rude behavior in front of Analee and in my office, as well as backtalk
and lying, Calandra has been assigned the following punishments:

One week of double-chores.
A written report after reading Lilliane Sedai's book of etiquette
An oral report on why questioning someone on a personal matter after
they've indicated they do not wish to speak of it is rude
Her mouth is to be washed out with soap by Analee.
She is forbidden to associate with the trainee Jaelyn

This is CC'd to Analee only for the 4th punishment.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Analee has arrived.

Megwyn looks up from her papers, erasing a frown. "Analee. I hadn't expected to see you so quickly."

Analee is not smiling, though. She looks expectantly to the door, then turns her eyes to Megwyn. "Well, I'm bringing a repentant soul to prostrate herself before you and to make her confession."

Megwyn straightens and drops the papers to her desk. "Bring her in."

Ivaria has arrived

Ivaria almost visibly winces as she enters the office, though she follows Analee dutifully.

Megwyn turns her gaze on Ivaria and shakes her head. She looks to Analee for an explanation.

Analee looks to Ivaria with a tight smile. "Megwyn Sedai would like to hear your confession, Novice. In full. Immediately."

Ivaria pauses only to take a breath to speak with as she curtseys, "Aes Sedai, I placed ... inappropriate materials into a book which the Scribe Darius was translating, in retaliation for the threat of punishment for all novices if the one who ... tied him up did not come forward."

Analee prompts, "And what sort of inappropriate materials, and what was the result?"

Ivaria blushes furiously, "Materials of a... an intimate nature. As a result, we were both assigned research papers."

Megwyn presses her lips together in a thin line. Her displeasure is as much at the Novice as it is at the need to assume this expression so much of late. "Is there anything else?"

Ivaria looks to Analee to see if there is anything else as she adds herself, "I regret doing it, Aes Sedai. I meant to undo what I had done, but... I forgot." A rather lame finish, but the truth none the less.

Megwyn drums her fingers on the desktop. "I've been told you've been asking questions about bonding, child. What is it you wish to know?" Her question is as much a demand as it is a query.

Analee looks from Ivaria to Megwyn with a shrug.

Ivaria frowns at that, "I have been?" her mouth forms an O, "oh! Marelain! That was something totally different, Aes Sedai! I was afraid Marelain may have been getting too close to oh, what is his name not that it matters now, if you know what I mean. She was only an accepted, and I didn't want to see her get in for it by doing something stupid."

Megwyn's tone becomes sharp. "Ivaria. What is your rank in the Tower?"

Ivaria blinks but responds meekly, "Novice, Aes Sedai."

Megwyn says, "And what is, and was, Marelain's rank?"

Ivaria sighs, "She is now Aes Sedai. At the time, She was Accepted, Aes Sedai."

Megwyn says, "And what about this disparity in rank leads you to believe you have any right to criticize her actions, Novice?"

Ivaria frowns, "Aes Sedai, I was not meaning to criticize her! She is my friend, or she was, and I was concerned for her as a friend, not a superior or one in judgement of her."

Analee has a frown on her face, one of distant remembrance, but she refrains from commenting.

Megwyn slaps her hand on the desk, "And yet you are asking her leading questions? I will not have this sort of nonsense. You are a Novice. She was Accepted and is Aes Sedai. In any future observations like this, you are to come and report the facts to me, and not your conclusions." She leans back in her chair. "I am fully aware of the nature of this.. association. Since I am usually in possession of more information of a mere Novice, do you not think it is I that should be drawing these conclusions?"

Ivaria opens her mouth to defend herself but then her shoulders slump and she just says, "Yes, Aes Sedai."

Megwyn says, "Very well. Since you seem to see the error of your ways, I will be lenient. This time. To Marelain, you will render an apology for jumping to conclusions. As for the other.." She purses her lips and considers, "Scribe Darius will be called to the courtyard along with all Novices and Accepted not currently in lessons or class. A public explanation of your act and an apology should serve."

Ivaria blushes furiously, blinking back tears, "A.. As you say, Aes Sedai."

Analee looks between Megwyn and Ivaria for a moment, adding gently, "And you still owe me a literary analysis."

Ivaria nods listlessly to Analee.

Megwyn rises and smiles to Analee. "Perhaps you would accompany Ivaria to the courtyard? I will find this scribe."

Ivaria sighs.

Analee nods slightly to Megwyn. "Of course. And it's /Darius/."

Megwyn shakes her head. "The rest of that will be dealt with in time, Analee." Her tone is meant to reassure, but it has a bit too much of an edge to be effective.

[Megwyn searches for Darius, finding him in the office wing of the Tower]

Darius blinks as he bows to Megwyn Sedai. "Good evening. Aes Sedai..."

Megwyn looks around her eyes moving in the manner of a woman searching for something. Unfortunately for Darius, when her eyes alight on him, her expression changes. What she is looking for, she has found.

Megwyn says, "Darius. I require your presence in the courtyard."

Darius blinks. "Of course, Megwyn Sedai. Might I ask what for though?"

Megwyn lifts her hand, indicating the way. She seems to be in something other than a leisurely mood. "Nothing that should upset you, Darius. A simple matter of Tower business."

Darius nods. "As you wish, Megwyn Sedai."

Darius pads down the carpeted ramp, disappearing around a turn.
Darius has left.

[Megwyn enters the Courtyard. Darius, Chrisne and Ivaria are already there. A summons is made (by page) for any other Novices and Accepted of the Tower not currently occupied in chores or classes to report to the courtyard.]

Ivaria stands in the middle of the courtyard, sniffing softly as she hugs herself.

Sheanadara walks down the steps into the Courtyard, after pushing through the main doors of the Tower.
Sheanadara has arrived.

Ashlynn walks down the steps into the Courtyard, after pushing through the main doors of the Tower.
Ashlynn has arrived.

Sheanadara walks out, curtsies once to anyone it might apply to, and moves over to join Ivaria.

Darius blinks at Ivaria. "Iv- err, Novice Ivaria, what's wrong?"

Ashlynn quietly exits the Tower, a small shopping basket on her arm. She pauses as she spies the small gathering within the courtyard. A brow lifts and she walks down the stairs, moving off in the direction of a free bench.

Megwyn says, "Darius, do not worry about this." She turns to the novice and places her hand on the woman's shoulder. "Calmly now."

Sheanadara curtsies once again as an Aes Sedai she doesn't know walks in.

Chrisne Steps out of the barracks, his yellow eyes taking these crowds in. Wondering about it, he walks closer, bowing respectfully to the various Aes Sedai's and Accepteds.

* Megwyn embraces the source. Her weaves are swift and deft. Anyone within the courtyard should be able to hear what the Novice has to say.

Darius ohs, quite puzzled, but falls otherwise silent. He remains standing next to the small bench.

Ivaria looks to the Aes Sedai. "Now, Aes Sedai?"

Ashlynn's brows raise even higher as she notices Megwyn touch the source. Her curiosity getting the better of her she sits and watches.

Megwyn turns to the gathering and raises her own voice. Strangely enough, although it is not loud, it is clear to be heard in all corners of the courtyard. "It is not often something happens that warrants a public announcement here in the Tower. Take it to heart. Such actions as these are not acceptable." She turns to Ivaria and nods, the impassive mask of an Aes Sedai hiding her true emotions. She murmurs to the Novice, for the moment unheard.

Megwyn whispers, "Remember. What you did, and an apology. And then this is over. (could it be she sounds sympathetic? Then again, maybe not)." to Ivaria.

Marelain walks calmly into the courtyard from the south gate, pausing curiously upon seeing the gathering of people.

Ivaria looks down at the stones of the courtyard. Her voice is softer than normal but is clearly heard through the weaves of the Aes Sedai. "I confess that I was the one that put the extra pages into Darius' manuscript, in retaliation for the novices being punished because of what had happened to him before. It was wrong, and I meant to undo it, but ...." her voice trails off. "I am Sorry." Finally she looks to Darius, "I apologize, Darius, what I did was immature, ill-though, and inexcusable."

Alyndara enters the Tower Courtyard through the Alindrelle Gates.

Alyndara steps quietly into the Courtyard, glancing around at the gathered people.

Megwyn looks down at the Novice, not quite satisfied. "And what was the content of those pages, Ivaria?"

Darius looks somewhere between moderately and completely shocked. "Ah... you did?"

Ivaria looks up at the Aes Sedai, her eyes pleading as her cheeks flame.

Marelain slowly inches her way closer to Ivaria, her eyebrows twitching upward in only mild surprise.

Megwyn's face is stone as she looks back at the young woman. "What was the content of those pages, Ivaria? You intended them to be read."

Ivaria says slowly, "Poetry, of an intimate nature, in the Old Tongue, Aes Sedai."

Ashlynn blinks slightly, her eyes widening a bit. She glances from Ivaria to Megwyn, her lips thinning together. It almost looks as if she is regretting a decision she made a bit earlier concerning this particular novice.

Darius recovers, enough to look slightly injured, but mostly concerned for Ivaria.

Ivaria goes back to looking at the stones of the courtyard, cheeks flaming.

Megwyn nods once and looks back up to the gathering. "This incident is to be remembered, but not spoken of. Ivaria has -truthfully-," There is undue stress on that word, "Confessed her actions. Remember that. She has completed her punishment and will not suffer further." She crosses her arms. "That is all."

* Megwyn releases the weave, and then the source.

Ivaria looks once to the Aes Sedai for permission to leave.

Megwyn nods her permission. She crosses to join Marelain, leaving the others to disperse as they may.

Darius blinks slowly, and hmmms quietly. Before bowing to the various Aes Sedai, and striding back into the Tower.

Darius walks up the steps and goes through the main doors of the Tower.
Darius has left.

Enticed by the bright yellow eyes, Shean moves over to the unusual warder-trainee.

Ivaria runs up the steps, not looking at anyone.

Ivaria walks up the steps and goes through the main doors of the Tower.
Ivaria has left.

Marelain tilts an eyebrow as her fellow Green comes near. She mutters to Megwyn, "My,... didn't... long to... bottom..."

Megwyn senses that Marelain tilts an eyebrow as her fellow Green comes near. "My, that didn't take long to get to the bottom of."

Ashlynn tsks slightly, changing her mind about her shopping trip. She heads back into the Tower.

Ashlynn walks up the steps and goes through the main doors of the Tower.
Ashlynn has left.

Sheanadara walks up to Chrisne, looking up at his yellow eyes.

Megwyn nods, "Analee was of some assistance." She glances at the Tower. "I've also spoken to her about your encounter. Expect an apology."

Chrisne looks down at the novice,"Yes novice, may I be of assistance?", he says softly at the staring novice.

Marelain nods, "I will." She also looks at the Tower, shaking her head slightly.

Megwyn nods and head up into the Tower.
