Present in the scene:
Marein, Novice
Marelain, Aes Sedai of the Green Ajah
Tristain, Warder Trainee
Janus, Trainer
Alona, Novice
Kristalisa, Accepted
Location: Courtyard, White Tower, Tar Valon.
Tristain shakes his head lightly, adjusting himself to the bench. "Close my eyes.. I dont know.. " He frowns.
Janus smiles and nods, "There is a common way that is taught. It is the way that I will teach you though it is not exactly the way I learned. The first thing is to close your eyes yes."
Marein sits down underneath a tree, leaning back against the trunk and closing her eyes. The heat is clearly uncomfortable in the thick woolen Novice robes she is wearing.
Janus nods and smiles, "Now. Imagine a flame in the blackness. An all consuming flame. Nod when you have the image."
Tristain's nose wrinkles a bit as he tries to focus on the image, then his face smooths and he nods slowly.
Alona sists quietly reading. Paying little to no heed to anything but book and paper that she occasionally makes jotted notes upon.
Janus smiles and nods. "Now. Relax yourslef. Put anything that prevents your relaxing into the fire, watch it burn up. Watch the fire burn up anything that prevents your consentration, all emotion, hate fear, love, anger, pain, everythig, is being burned up by the fire, untill there is nothing left to burn and it cannot exist anymore. It winks out, no more fuel to sustain it. All that is left is void. Nothing." His voise is soft, gentle.
Unconsiously, a soft hum starts deep in Tristain's throat. His body relaxes visibly, but he doesnt seem quite there.
Janus nods, "Let all of the emoion go Tristain. Any hidden anger, hate, bitterness. Let it burn up in the fire. It doesn't exist."
Marein opens her eyes, listening intently to the warder as he talks to the trainee. She closes her eyes, seeming to try the same herself.
Now, that is an easier said thing then done. Tristain continues to hum, he even starts to rock a little back and forth. His humming becomes more strained, as if he is frustrated.
Janus shakes his head slightly, "Don't worry ristain, it probably wont come this time, it takes practice. don't be anxious. If you can't get it than just open your eyes. No one has gotten it on the first try. Ever."
Marein sits quietly, eyes closed and breath regular. Sudden small flickers of Saidin appears around her for those who can see before she startles, opening her eyes and shaking her head, muttering to herself.
Tristain's eyes crack open, now its clear to see his frustration. "How can you forget everything? I mean, fear and pain comes.. naturally with emotion."
Marelain walks up behind Marein, having come in from the gate just a minute or so before. "I wouldn't do that, if I were you," she says softly.
Marein sighs, shrugging uncomfortably in the heat and closing her eyes again. Needless to say, the voice of the Aes Sedai startles her enough to have her on her feet yelping. Curtseying quickly, her mouth works soundlessly, her arms flapping as she tries to gather enough wit to explain. "But... uhm... I was... ehm.."
Janus smiles, "It can be blocked. Believe me. I know." he speaks as if he deffinitly does. "It takes time though, and effort. When I came I was already close, my father had taught me a tecknique very similer in relation to shooting the bow. But it still took me months of practice, and... and practice." he ends with a shrug, though it seems there should have been more.
Marelain folds her arms calmly, "You were channeling without supervision, from what I could see." She speaks quietly, one eyebrow arching.
"But.. I was just... They were talking about this thing... feeding all your emotion and everything... I just wanted to try and..." Marein babbles quite well, a delicate red blush rising all the way to her scalp.
Alona curtseys to Marelain quietely.
, Tristain lets out a frustrated sigh and nods. "I see, I will work on it then?"
Janus nods. "Yes. I know it is hard. But the key is to not get discouraged. Discouragment is only one more emotiont aht will have to be put into the fire. And it is the hardest."
Marein sighs, throwing her arms up in despair over herself. "I didn't mean to embrace, it just came. I promise, it won't happen again! Please, don't send me to the Monster! I don't want another month at the farm!" she says, her voice pitched and on the edge of crying.
Tristain nods slowly. "Alright" He blinks a little and glances over at Marein, wondering why she is so upset.
Janus glances over to the Novice and raises an eyebrow, then stands, not moving, but watching.
Alona blinks and looks up from her book fully now but says nothing merely looking from fellow novice to Marelain and back.
Marelain shakes her head slowly, "Marein. Calm down, or I'll see that you -are- sent to the farm." Her voice is suddenly sharp, meant to bring the girl up short.
Marein ulps and is instantly silent, folding her hands in front of her, eyes downcast.
Tristain stands and quickly bows to the Aes Sedai, he isnt about to give her a reason to scold him like that.
Marein draws a deep breath, looking up at the Aes Sedai's face. She quickly settles for looking straight ahead instead. "It just was so much easier. I always had to imagine things when I want to embrace, but it came by itself. I didn't mean to! Really! I didn't!" She starts off on her rant again, voice choked.
Marelain holds up a hand, "Light above, Marein! I'm not interested in that right now. Do you even know why it's against the rules?"
Yes, I know. Tristain quickly glances over at Janus, then back at the Aes Sedai and Novice.
Marein nods. "Yes, I know. It's because you think we won't be able to control it. I think it's a bloody stupid rule." she says half-angrily. Then her eyes widen, . You can almost hear the *gulp* of her swallowing.
The sudden focus in Marelain's eyes is the only indication she's upset by the response. "I'll give you one chance to take that back, child." She gives slight emphasis to that last word.
"I do!" squeaks Marein quickly.
Alona returns to her book coolly. Pretending not to notice the events. However she scratches away at the paper as things proceed.
Marein mumbles something under her breath, kicking at nothing at the ground.
Marelain inclines her head slowly, "And a good thing for you that you did. Why do you think it's a... stupid rule?" Her nose wrinkles slightly, a vague sneer.
Marein mumbles incomprehensively.
Marelain barks out suddenly, "Speak up, or I'll have you hauled off to the farm so fast you'll wish you'd never set foot on the Tower grounds, girl!"
Tristain's jaw snaps up where it belongs. At Marelain Sedai's bark he almost jumps back.
Marein lifts her eyes finally to meet the Sister's. "Perhaps I already do." she snaps, quicker than she probably will wish she did.
Janus stands easily once more, watching the affair with a great interest.
"You hauled me cold-necked in here. I didn't ask for this! I was perfectly happy with my life, then you and the bloody magistrates come hauling me here. Why couldn't you just bloody well leave me alone?" half screams Marein. All thoughts of punishment and correct manner to Aes Sedai is gone. "Who made you witches the queens of the world anyways?!"
Janus flicks his eyes to the Sedai, his expression unreadable.
Alona snaps her book closed loud enough for all to hear and looks at Marein and then Marelain,"May I speak Aes Sedai?" He posture is rod straight and tone is a bit quiet.
Kristalisa walks down the steps into the Courtyard, after pushing through the main doors of the Tower.
Alona has her back to the Tower facing Marelain and Marein.
Janus is standing not far from where Marelain and the novice are standing. He is watching the scene with quite a bit of intrest.
Marelain says through clenched teeth, "You may not, Novice," directed at Alona. She stares at Marein coldly. "You seem to make the assumption that I care what you think, child. I've given you enough chances here. I think you won't have any more."
Tristain is standing right behind Janus, his jaw dropped to third button and eyes wide.
Kristalisa moves into the Courtyard, apparantly unaware - for the moment - of the scene going on.
Marein snorts. "Thank you. I'll just go pack, then." she says, turning to walk away, eyes stonily dark.
Janus smiles slightly, actually smiles, andlooks to Marelain, watching her curiously.
Alona nods and curtseys spinning about book in hand and makes for the Tower curtseying to Krista calmly before mounting the stairs.
[Channeling] Marelain opens herself to the source, wrapping a flow of Air around Marein and whipping her back around.
Kristalisa moves slowly over towards the men, her eyes slightly widened.
[Channeling] Marein embraces, Spirit flying out to snap the weaves. The weaves seem made from instinct rather than training, but they are strong nonetheless.
Marein suddenly whips around, body rigid. Her eyes narrow, a look of concentration passing briefly over her face.
[Channeling] Marelain throws a lightning-quick weave of Spirit, fairly strong, at Marein to shield her from the source. That did it. :)
[Channeling] Kristalisa embraces the source instictively, merely holding Saidar within her without taking any action.
Janus seems to be taking all of this in carefully, his eyes flicking back and forth.
Tristain shuts his mouth, but his eyes remains open in shock. He too looks back and forth.
Marein 's eyes widen abruptly, a mad scream escaping her lips. The look she gives Marelain is as close as you can get to murder without a dagger.
[Channeling] Marein reaches desperately for the source, unable to break through the shield of a fully trained Aes Sedai, but still strong enough to be a bother.
Janus raises an eyebrow at the scream and the look, but continues to simply watch calmly, his arms crossed on his cheast.
Marelain shakes her head slowly, walking toward Marein. She gives the impression of a predator advancing on helpless prey. "You stupid, stupid girl. What -are- you thinking? I -was- willing to let this pass with some lenience."
Janus smiles and almost says something but thinks better about it, simply shaking his head.
"Why is it so bloody hard for you to see? I don't belong here!" says Marelain, her voice still hard-edged. "I don't want to be Aes Sedai. And I don't care anymore. Go ahead, send me to the farm. Perhaps those ancient hags you have sitting out there will find me gone one morning."
Marelain shakes her head, a smile curving her lips, but completely without mirth. "Oh, you should be so lucky. No, I think you'll find this far worse, child. You shall be working for me for a while, I believe." Her eyes narrow speculatively, "Yes, I think I could use an assistant for a while."
Marein smiles slyly. "Don't expect to find much help." Sweat is streaming down her face now, and she is quite pale.
Marelain arches one eyebrow, laughing now. "You think so? You may find yourself recanting that statement before too long." She reaches up one hand to hold Marein's chin, tilting the girl's head so she can look directly into her eyes. "At least, you'd be wise to."
Janus snorts and has aparently seen enough as he turns and walks into the practice yard, shaking his head as he goes.
A slight grin spreads across Marein's face. Her voice is a drawl now, sounding very weary. "Just be on your toes, witch." she mumbles.
Kristalisa frowns to herself from her spot.
[Channeling] Kristalisa slowly lets her hold on the Source slip away.
Tristain looks after Janus, then back to the others. He is still just watching.
Janus passes through the entrance of a large wall, leading to the Practice Yard.
Marelain apparently is beginning to find the Novice's replies amusing. With a laugh, she replies, "Oh, I'm always 'on my toes'." Releasing the weave that holds Marein bound, she adds, "You'll report to the Mistress of Novices, for starters, and you'll tell her everything that happened here. Be sure to tell the truth, because she -will- get my report as well. Explain that I've taken care of the punishment, but if she has anything to add, you will welcome the chance to make further amends. Am I understood?"
The weaves holding Marein up gone, she instantly slumps to the ground. She blinks, weakly trying to get up.
Alona looks at the novice disdainfully before disappearing admist the halls.
