Setting: The Hall of the Servants, White Tower, Tar Valon
Characters:
Raemira - Amyrlin Seat
Micana - Keeper of the Chronicles
Yuluriss - Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah
Irinya - Aes Sedai and Sitter for the Red Ajah
Naomi Sedai - Aes Sedai
Morillin - Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah
Chrystina Sedai - Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah
Llywen - Aes Sedai of the Green Ajah
Karaul - Ex-Arafellian PikeMan
Chrystina Sedai watches the proceedings with mild interest on her face, her eyes taking in everything, however...
Morillin watches Karaul intently from her seat close to Irinya, her expression icily serene.
Yuluriss halts before the dias and offers the Amyrlin a respectful curtsy before intoning clearly, "Mother, on behalf of the Red Ajah, I present to the Hall the Male Channeler captured in Arafel not long ago."
Yuluriss nods to Raemira, "His name is Karaul Andellarian. He was captured without significant incident."
Karaul smirks softly, moving his hands from behind his back to rub his face gently. His eyes make their way up to the woman addressed, in an attempt to gleam whatever information from her manner he can.
Llywen looks the man over, quietly, then turns her attention to the Amyrlin.
Irinya's gaze moves to regard Karaul, without expression or pity, regarding the situation he's in, quiet, listening to Yuluriss.
Raemira inclines her head to Yuluriss, then nods to Micana. The Keeper taps her staff three times to commence the meeting, announcing for the others to be quiet, until called upon. She nods once more to Yuluriss, then glances to Morillin, to start the 'summons'.
Yuluriss curtsies once again to the Amyrlin before retiring from the foot of the dias and gliding toward the seats reserved for the Red Ajah. She takes her seat beside those of her sisters. Yuluriss sits down at Red Ajah Benches.
Karaul stands as straight as he can, trying to make what little height he has seem more. He offers a quick glance to the Sedai holding his shield, though moving his head as little as possible, eyes once again lying on the Amyrilin.
Morillin rises to her feet, slowly. "Karaul Andellarian, you are summoned before the Hall of the Tower."
Karaul remains blank faced, his attention making it's way to the speaking woman.
Irinya says in a calm. smooth voice, directing her dark, expressionless gaze on Karaul. "Ask not why you are summoned, it is yours to answer, not to question."
Llywen watches Morillin and Karaul, her eyes flicking between the two of them.
Yuluriss rises to her feet and intones clearly, "Delay not in your coming. It is yours to obey in haste."
Chrystina Sedai watches the scene carfully, her dark brown eyes watching each person for a few seconds before moving to the next.
Karaul speaks up, sending his voice to the women, "I question not why I'm summoned, merely abhore it's methods, and what comes of it." he says, offering a look around the room.
Llywen looks upon the man, a bit of pity in her eyes.
Irinya ignores Karaul's words, except for that her eyes become slightly sharper. She speaks in unison with Yuluriss and Morillin, "It is well to fear the summons of the Hall. It is well to obey in haste and humility, unasking. You are summoned to kneel before the Hall of the Tower and accept their judgement."
Naomi Sedai nods her head towards Chrystina, looking back to the proceedings with an unreadable expression.
Karaul smirks softly, glancing to the floor for a moment and shaking his slowly, listening to the words only with a second thought.
There appears to be an air of waiting about the Hall, as all eyes move toward Karaul, or nearly all, watching and estimating the young man's next moves.
Raemira turns her eyes to the man being addressed, her expression an empty void for now. For a brief moment, her eyes might show some sympathy for the man, though she then turns to address the rest of the 'court', "What are the charges against this man?" Her voice intones in a formal address.
Karaul moves his eyes back off of the floor, returning them to the Amyrilin, a bit of disgust showing through in his blank face for a moment, obviously holding back words for now.
Irinya slowly lets her gaze glide over to the two other red Sitters next to her, then back to Karaul, studying him as if he were a caged animal, dangerous if let out, but more or less harmless in his current state.
Llywen just watches quietly.
Morillin gives Karaul a look of cool contempt as she gives her shawl a small tug. Lifting her voice, she pronounces, "This man, abandoned of the Light, has touched saidin, the male half of the True Source. Thus do we hold him. Most abominably has this man channeled the One Power, knowing that saidin is tainted by the Dark One, tainted for men's pride, tainted for men's sin." Her lips curve, slowly, into a sharp little smile as she speaks those words. "Thus do we chain him." Then, turning to Raemira, she inclines her head.
Karaul turns his eyes as he hears the words, the effort he was putting to holding back his words going to waste, "You speak of ignorance, of me, and my deeds. You see, blindly, just a man who you feel endangers you all." he says, shaking his head.
The contempt in Morillin's gaze grows as Karaul speaks once more, and her lip curls slightly.
Chrystina Sedai watches the scene with a particular distasteful expression, whether for the ceremony or the man, it is hard to tell.
Llywen still looks on pittying the man for his ability to channel.
Irinya sees no apparent reason in responding to Karaul, merely looking at him in what would be a quite unsettling way for most people.
Karaul looks about the faces in the room, a deep sigh escaping his lips as he sees the amounts of contempt being placed upon him, "So much disgust, for a man none of you even cared to know about, only wishing to see a man who touches the taint. How many of you even cared to know the smallest ounce of my deeds, or even speak with me?!" he smirks, shaking his head slowly as his gaze crosses them all.
Yuluriss lifts a cool brow at Karaul, but says nothing.
Chrystina Sedai narrows her eyes slightly at the man's words, her lips moving slightly as she murmers something to herself.
Llywen watches him quietly, pittying him.
There is no pity in Morillin's hard features, of course. Nor is there satisfaction. Only, perhaps, a hint of impatience. In her mind, probably, the deserved fate of this man has been delayed too long already.
The Amyrlin watches the scene before her without emotion upon her features, a cool gaze moving its way down toward where Karaul stands, "Child, you will be told when we wish to hear your input upon matters." Her voice holds a commanding tone, that has an edge of steel, "Until your opinion is asked for, I suggest you remain quiet." The suggestion, however, is not a suggestion, as there is no doubt her voice makes it a command. Her eyes search out over the others going from Sitter to Sedai. "I open the forum to debate. We all know, in our hearts, what must be done, but if others have objections, or other input which must be gleaned to decide this man's fate, I do so wish to hear it now. Once judgement is passed, it is final." She continues to glance about, waiting for signs of whether or not the others wish to speak.
Irinya looks at the Amyrlin, for permission to speak.
Llywen also looks for permission to speak fromt he Amyrlin.
Karaul continues to just shake his head, his eyes looking for one of the few familiar faces from his stay in the Dungeon. Finding none, he just sighs and listens.
Raemira inclines her head to Irinya, "Irinya Sedai, you may have the floor."
Morillin snorts softly. As if there should be any debate about this.
Irinya lets her gaze drift slowly across the room, before speaking, in a low, smooth, almost purring voice, yet it is cold as steel. "There is no doubt that a man channeling Saidin is an immediate danger, to himself, but most importantly, to all the people who would be near, when he cannot control himself, finally going mad, innocent people becoming victims. " She pauses, settling her gaze on Karaul, dark eyes holding a hard, ancient expression. "He must, by the means necessary, be kept harmless. "
Morillin nods slightly in agreement with the Sitter.
Llywen nods quietly, grudgingly in agreement with the Red Sister.
Raemira inclines her head to Irinya, murmuring so others can hear, "Eloquently spoken Irinya Sedai...." She turns her gaze to Llywen now, "Llywen Sedai... you wish to say something on the matter?"
Karaul listens, a level of disagreement on his face as he holds his tongue.
Yuluriss graces Morillin with a small smile before she rises from amidst a sea of Red shawls. She quietly waits her turn to be recognized.
Llywen stands, "Yes Mother, I agree that Karaul..." she nods to the man, acknowledging him, "Must be kept harmless... but I would like to point out that it is not his fault that he has the ability to channel and would like that to be kept in mind." she pauses, "As far as I have heard, he has harmed no one and has no other criminal charges..."
Irinya looks over at Yuluriss from her seat, almost betraying a slight hint of curiousity on her otherwise placid face.
Morillin gives Llywen a sneering glance.
A brow lifts at Llywen's comments, as Raemira takes a moment to speak her mind, carefully, "Tower Law states that it is a crime for any man to channel Saidin, whether or not he has harmed another." She pauses a moment to let that sink, then continues, "That he has not harmed another works in his favor, to a certain degree." She then turns her eyes to Yuluriss, nodding her head in acknowledgement for the other woman to speak.
Llywen nods quietly and seats herself.
Chrystina Sedai stands up, pulling on her shawl tightly as she waits her turn to speak.
Karaul continues to remain silent, apparent disagreement marring his features, along with some confusion.
Yuluriss says "I am of the same mind as Irinya Sedai..." she glances to Llewyn, "and my Green Sister. To keep others safe, he must be gentled. However, as has already been indicated, this man has harmed no one, discounting the handful of Trollocs incinerated. I move that he not be forever restricted to the Tower grounds, but released of his own recognisance once it is determined that he is no longer a danger to himself."
Yuluriss retakes her seat having finished posing the arguement.
The Amyrlin looks ponderous a moment as she listens to Yuluriss statement. Whether or not she agrees is not appearant, however she does nod, as if to let the woman know she heard her words, "Chrystina Sedai... you hold the floor now."
Chrystina Sedai speaks loudly and clearly. "Mother," she starts, nodding in respect to Raemira, "and Sisters, I do not disagree that Saidin is most definately the work of the Dark One, and a danger to the world through the men who channel it....once they lose their control over it. I propose that although the end result for this man, as Yuluriss has just said, most likely will be stilling, that the sisters of the Brown Ajah," looking rather eager "and, if they wish, the Yellow Ajah and any others with an interest," at this she looks less than eager, as if not wanting to share this find "be allowed to talk to this man and document whatever information we can get. After all, it is not every day that a man who can channel Saidin is brought to the Tower in such good shape, still in his right mind, and very able to keep his own. At least for now." Apparantly done with that thought, she nods again and sits down.
Llywen nods to Chrystina, slightly amused at something, but in agreement.
Morillin shakes her head. Browns.
The Amyrlin keeps her features rather calm and controlled as she answers Chrystina, "The man may be able to channel Saidin, but it is surely not the mark of the Dark One upon him. Saidin is as much to them as Saidar is to us. They are born with it. It is the Taint that comes with the touch of the Dark one that clogs their rationale and their minds from sifting maddness from truth, and causes their bodies to rot and decay. To say Saidin, in its purest form, is to be touched by the Dark, is just as bad as saying that we are, ourselves, agents of the Dark. Do keep that in mind when next you meet a Child of Light." She gently admonishes the Aes Sedai who has just spoken. "Because of this, and because of what he may be going through, whether or not he is to be studied, will be a decision he makes for himself. The Hall is only here to decide his fate as it currently stands, not as it stands in the future." With that she turns her eyes to the rest of hte room, carefully watching the others, then glances down to Karaul, "Have you anything to say for yourself?" Now she gives the young gentleman a chance to speak. "Do know that anything you speak now will be held accountable against you, or for you...."
Chrystina Sedai frowns a bit at the Amyrlin's reply, leaning over to murmer something to a nearby Brown.
Llywen nods quietly.
Llywen watches the man.
Yuluriss picks at her dress, pulling tiny strands of lint flicking them aside. Her attention waning as the arguements grow repetitive.
Chrystina Sedai watches the man, her dark eyes focused on him, taking in every movement, everything there is to know about this man.
Karaul gives one last eye around the room, trying to get one last idea of their manner, before laying his eyes on the Amyrlin, "I have healed dying men on the field, so that they might continue to fight the shadow. I have used it to save men from the blades of a Fade. And now, after sitting in a dark dungeon, in a foreign land, I am tried for something I had no control of. Can you tell me, with the light behind you, that gentling me is the only possible course to take?"
Irinya looks for another chance to speak
Yuluriss's eyes never shy away from her dress, as if discounting Karaul's narrative as something to be expected. Certainly such arguements have been heard before from other men brought to the Tower for similar charges. She frowns slightly when she finds a tiny tear in the fabric of the burgundy gown.
Raemira takes the opportunity to answer Karaul's question, giving a small, yet eloquent dip of her head, "You may not know the histories of the World as we do, with much of it cataloged within out libraries, but I can assure you that 'gentling' is the only recourse that we can take. I say this with the Light behind me, fully." She pauses, watching Karaul in a contemplative manner, "Your fate would have been very much like those who broke the world. Nothing can stop the taint of the Dark upon Saidin. The inevitable, if you were allowed to continue as you were when found, would have been that you would have grown mad, and killed those about you, loved, family, friends, strangers, allies, enemies. You cannot control that which you are born with, this we know, for no one can ever teach you the ways of Saidin, surely none amongst us. If madness did not take you, you would rot away, like a decaying body, with nothing able to cure its effects. THe only recourse is to take away your ability to use the power which would kill you. I will not cure you, but it will stop the madness and it will stop the decay." She regards Karaul, letting him sink in her words as her emerald eyes flicker with the faintest hint of unreadable emotion.
Llywen watches the man, sighing silently with a touch of pitty.
Yuluriss sighs softly, still fingering the tear with a small measure of dismay. Time to find a new tailor perhaps.
Karaul takes a step forward as she finishes, though remaining within the Reds around him, "My whole family died at the hands of those Trollocs mentioned. Two weeks later, I am tossed into a dungeon, because I tried to save them. Is that justice? And you say I shall go mad and kill all around me if left in the world without your 'help'. But all your help does is bring my death even sooner, or so I've had the grace to hear. Maybe if you tried to deal with me as I am, and not destroy the ability within me, your solution would become less rash, and save many a man from killing himself." he says, gesturing an arm about the room as he speaks to gaze at them all, with a hint of sadness in his eyes.
Irinya glances sideways from her seat towards Raemira, giving small hints of approval to the last statement, even if it's very subtle, before looking over at Karaul again, dark eyes contemplating... Now she looks again for a chance to speak.
Llywen sighs saddly.
Raemira simply nods her head to Irinya, allowing the Red Sitter to speak once more, "After this..." She murmurs, "I will call for a vote of the Sitters."
Yuluriss lifts her gaze from the minute tear in her gown to watch Irinya's reply, though she can already guess the tone if not the exact content of the reply.
Irinya looks at Karaul, seemingly without any hints of any pity shown for the sadness, and speaks smoothly, in a voice calmly stating facts. "The fighting against Trollocs is indeed a valiant deed.. And your words and request is sound... for being a man in your situation. However, risking the lives of so many other people for that chance.. The madness comes more often than not unexpected.. You are offering the risk to bring harm to where you are, which is the White Tower, something that cannot be allowed. " She inclines her head to the Amyrlin, finished.
Llywen nods in agreement.
Karaul adds quickly, and finally in his defence, "Then remain within your fears, and help me not. Merely exchange one curse with another, and finish the deed the Dark One began by tainting Saidin." he sighs, pulling himself straighter and gazing forward.
Not giving it a chance for more debate, Raemira intones, "I will now have a vote from the Hall, before I pass judgement." Her eyes scan those of the others present, more particualrly the Sitters.
Irinya speaks quietly with the two other Sitters next to her, before she stands, voting for the Red Ajah. "The Red Ajah votes for Gentling, followed by either confinment on Tower grounds, or other means of close watch for the rest of his life. " A glance towards the Brown Ajah, perhaps an offering for them to do likely wanted examinations..
The Brown Sitters confer briefly, before one rises and says quickly, "The Brown Ajah votes for stilling, followed by confinement on Tower Grounds."
A lone figure from the Yellow Ajah rises and announces clearly, "The Yellow Ajah votes for gentling and confinement until he is no longer a danger to himself."
Karaul flinches lightly every time the word 'gentling' is uttered, though remains as blank faced, and straight backed as he can.
Llywen watches the man's face, carefully.
The Green Sitter rises and says calmly, "We agree with the sentence of gentling. Confinement as well."
A single gray sister stands as had the previous Sitters and says clearly, "The Gray Ajah agrees that this case mandates gentling, but does not see that life-long confinement is required. He should be confined only so long as he is not a danger to himself.
A Sitter for the White rises and says coolly, "Logically, we will be unable to fully ascertain whether he is no longer a danger to himself unless he is under constant observation. The White Ajah votes for gentling, followed by confinement. Even without the Power, he could be a danger to others."
A lonely Blue Sitter rises and opens her mouth to speak, but the White Sitter's answer, causes her to close it for a moment..almost as if reconsidering. Finally she speaks, "Gentling. However, he is no more dangerous than any other man. Quite less dangerous than a Warder would be..." she lifts a cool brow at the White, knowing her to be one of the few Whites to have a Warder, "Confinement only until it is determined he is no longer a danger to himself."
The White Sitter gives her shawl a tug, then confers with her fellow Sitters. After a few moments, she finally turns back to the Hall and says, "The White agrees with Blue. There is no logical reason to keep him here indefinately. Gentling, followed by confinement until he is no longer a danger to himself.
As soon as all the others finish their voting, Raemira turns her complete and utter attention to Karaul, regarding him with quiet eyes. After a few moments of observation, she starts to speak, "Karaul Andellarian you are hereby charged with using Saidin and exposing others to the Taint of the Dark One that is associated with it. The Hall has convened and spoken of the matter before your eyes. I am charged with passing judgement unto you...." She pauses a few moments so the others can present their attention in her direction.
Llywen watches, holding her breath.
Chrystina Sedai watches intently, her whole body still, not a breath being taken.
Karaul lets out a deep breath, leaving his eyes on her blankly as he waits to hear the words he already expects to hear. Hands clasped behind his back, he waits.
Morillin smiles, faintly, to herself.
Micana watches the proceedings silently, her eyes moving from person to person as her quick hand records the pertinent information in neat lines of ink on stiff parchment. Her expression is set in formal calmness.
"I hearby announce.." Raemira begins speaking, her voice loud enough that it echos about the chamber, "... that you will be gentled, as the only alternative that the Tower has to offer for you to keep your sanity and for others their lives. This judgement shall be carried out immediately, by a circle of no less than thirteen Sisters. You will them be placed under confinement of the Tower walls, with an Accepted or Aes Sedai guard, speaking to none other than Accepted, Aes Sedai or Gaidin, until such a time that the Yellow Ajah deems you to be safe enough to be released into the public once again on your own." She pauses a few moments, then continues, "No one shall harrass you while you stay within the Tower, nor are you obligated to be the subject of any research details if that is not your desire." She gasts a strong gaze at the sisters of the Brown Ajah, as if to reinforce her words, "Every effort will be made to re-establish you back into society, and as a normal life as possible, so long as you make no attempt to seek retribution against the Tower for the actions and judgements made this day. So it shall be, written in the records of the Hall and the Tower." She turns her eyes back to Karaul, watching and studying him, waiting to see what his response will be to the verdict.
Karaul remains silent, eyes closed for most of her words, yet opening again to gaze into hers, "So be it." he says, a look of disgust falling over his face as he lets out a deep sigh.
Llywen watches as well, still holding her breath...as he speaks, she releases it.
Yuluriss hrmms softly to herself as she returns her attention to the chore of picking unwanted lint from the skin of her dress.
Irinya studies Karaul calmly. She does hardly seem surprised over the judgement, likely the one to be expected.
Raemira inclines her head, then glances to Micana to get the little bag out that was used in the previous meeting no doubt, reserved for such occassions as these.
Chrystina Sedai sits in her bench, her eyes closed for a brief minute before opening them again, this time with an impassive look towards the man. She nods to herself, closing her notebook with a final genture.
Karaul raises his chin, speaking out, "May I say one final thing before the vicious deed is done?" he adds.
The Amyrlin turns her eyes to Karaul, speaking in as gentle a voice as possible, "Child, this deed is as humane as we can possibly make it for you. You will see in the long run, but your request is granted."
Micana walks over toward the sack of pebbles to which one has been added for each sister present, most of them white, 13 of them black. She returns to Raemria to display the double flapped velet sack. "Are any here to be given a black without drawing lots?
Raemira gives a slight nod of her head to Micana, "Yuluriss. From what I understand she had a hand in bringing him to the Tower." This might also indicate that the woman gets to lead the circle.
Llywen waits to see what Karaul has to say.
Yuluriss nods politely to the Amyrlin, but then speaks, "Pardon me Mother. If I may I would like to nominate Morillin Sedai to participate in my stead.
Karaul remains blank faced as he takes a step forward, "I was never, and will never, be yours to judge. Today's judgement is on a foreign man, that you pulled to you. There is no justice in your deeds, only fear." he says, finally stepping back within his circle and lowering his head, "As I said, do your 'vicious' deed." he says, ignoring all words occuring around him, for he expects no care coming from the women about him.
Llywen shakes her head saddly and sighs.
Morillin lifts an eyebrow at Yuluriss, then shrugs, not about to argue. This is one deed she certainly wishes to participate in.
Chrystina Sedai stares impassively at the happenings, the corners of her lips twitching slightly downward.
Raemira turns her eyes to Karaul, right as she was about to answer Yuluriss, "That is where you are wrong child. -Any- ruler with a sane mind would send you to the Tower for judgement." She leaves her words at that, then gives a faint nod to Yuluriss, "If that is how you feel, you will be given a chance to draw from the bag instead."
Some of the Reds holding the shield on Karaul give him tight smiles as he lowers his head.
Irinya looks at Morillin, an eyebrow lifted just slightly, revealing a faint trace of curiousity of what the seemingly younger sister has in mind.
Micana nods. She slips her hand into the bag , lifting the concealing flap so she can see the interior. Long fingers reach inside and withdraw the sought after black single pebble, holding it between index finger and thumb. The hand extends toward Yuluriss and hesitates short of releasing the pebble into her care. Micana's green eyes turn to Raemira and she nods, then steps over to Morillin to drop the pebble in her hand.
Karaul mutters, though loud enough to be heard, "I speak not of nations...." he says, grasping out desperately for Saidin, hoping to find a weakness in the shield.
Morillin accepts the black pebble with a faint smile, turning it over in her fingers slowly.
Llywen watches with pity for a moment, before turning her attention to the bag and the Keeper.
The Reds holding the shield tense for a moment. Then, several of them chuckle, relaxing, as his attempt fails.
Irinya gives her fellow Sisters a sharp glance at the chuckling and relaxation, seemingly finding little amusement with it, more likely suggesting them to keep concentrated on what they are doing.
Karaul shakes ever so slightly, as the reality of the situation takes grip of him, fists clenching tight as his eyes raise to meet Morillin's with contempt, a grin taking hold.
Morillin returns Karaul's smile with one of her own. A pleased baring of teeth.
Yuluriss says in muted tones to Morillin, She mutters to Morillin, "You're..."
If Morillin hears her fellow Red, she makes no sign.
Micana begins the usual routine of moving through the room to permit the drawing by lots of who is to participate. Her eyes seem to rest on the faces of those who reach into the bag and their expressions as they observe their lot. She maintains a position which permits the Amyrillin to observe this also.
Yuluriss reaches into the bag and withdraws a white pebble, much to her pleasure, as evident by a soft smile.
Karaul stops his shakes, eyes remaining on Morillin as the lots are drawn, speaking as the Keeper makes the rounds to the Red to lead, "My oath, and offer still stands..." he speaks, his grin growing slightly.
Yuluriss stands from amidst the wedge of red shawls, "With your permission Mother, may I depart as I am not participating in this ceremony?"
Morillin says calmly to Karaul, "Be silent."
Irinya raises an eyebrow at this exchange, her sharp gaze drifting towards Morillin.
Raemira inclines her head to Yuluriss, a curious glance going between Morillin and Karaul, "That you may, Daughter...." She says in an absent voice, a small frown taking form on her features.
Chrystina Sedai reaches in the bag to withdraw a white pebble as the Keeper comes by, and although she shows no emotion, she lets out a deep breath as she sees it.
Llywen reaches into the bag, closing her eyes and draws a pebble....opening her eyes she sighs....black.
Llywen shakes her head slightly, but grips the pebble with acceptance.
Yuluriss steps into the aisle and offers the Amyrlin a respectful curtsey before turning about and gliding down towards the door at the end. After a soft creak of the door opening, the honey haired Red Sister vanishes from the Hall.
Karaul nods lightly in response, "That's all I expected to hear...." he smiles, pulling himself to his full height and waiting.
Yuluriss pulls open the large door that leads into the Tower Office Wing and she exits the room.
Irinya reaches in the bag, and draws a black pebble. Her face reveals no signs of reaction however, as she looks up again, calmly.
Sisters reach into the bag one by one. The smiles on the faces of Ordisa and Flarine are equally as relieved though the first holds black and the second draws white. Elda, the heavyset Brown draws a black and her eyes shine in satisfaction. Merdil, a yellow, surpresses a dark look of dismay at her black.
Micana moves to continue along the next grouping.
Morillin waits patiently, still turning her black stone over in her fingers.
Llywen has her black stone clenched in her fist, eyes watching karaul and no one else.
Karaul holds an emotionless face, the only sign of anything being a contemptuous grin, although a small glaze can be noticed appearing in his eyes.
Llywen just watches him, calmly, observantly, all other emotions gone from her, pushed aside in this present situation.
Llywen, Morillin, Irinya, Flarine, Elda, Merdil, all bearing black start to move toward the front of the room as the process continues, the two groups sorting themselves out. White after white is withdrawn then three blacks in a row. The sack reaches those of the white ajah and Micana raises her eyebrow slightly at a snatch of conversation she overhears there. She says nothing, but makes note of the speaker as this takes preceedance now. White, black, white...the bag passes toward Raemira.
Llywen stands and leaves Green Ajah Benches.
Raemira shakes her head, holding out her hand, declining the chance to partake in the lot.
Morillin stands and leaves Red Ajah Benches.
Morillin glides slowly towards Karaul, giving her fellow Red sisters a slight nod as they part to allow those with the black stones to approach.
Micana speaks softly to Raemira a moment then continues to the last groupings, the Aes Sedai at the door and those maintaining the shields. The final pebbles are drawn and the 13 set.
Karaul stands silent with his eyes glazed, though not allowing anything to escape. His grin slowly disappears, as he takes in a deep breath, slowly glancing his eyes around to the women approaching him.
Karaul's eyes are caught by Llywen's for a moment, a flash of caring and compassion, then drop to his chin.
Morillin places herself directly in front of Karaul, close enough to reach out and touch him if she wished to do so. Folding her hands at her waist, she waits in silence for the rest to arrange themselves around the condemned. Her dark eyes never move from the man.
Raemira calmly watches as the others take their pebbles then move forward one by one. Her emerald eyes hold their own glassy gaze that appears to hold a faint fire deep within. Whenever someone gets severed from the source, be it male or female, in any fashion, it is more than enough to think about.
Irinya moves in smooth, gliding steps, taking her place into the circle, her dark eyes calm, yet sharp, ready for her task.
Karaul lets his attentions fall on Morillin, hands clasping slowly behind his back as he keeps his eyes upon hers.
A faint frowm forms upon Raemira's features as she turns her eyes carefully toward those of the White Ajah, studying them carefully for a few moments. After those few moments she turns her eyes back to Karaul and the others, carefully watching.
Llywen consentrates on the task before her.
Karaul does not allow his attention to stray in the least, awaiting the cruel deed as he strains yet again on his shield in a final desperate attempt, grimacing quickly.
Morillin watches Karaul for a moment, then turns to Raemira, perhaps waiting for permission to proceed.
Irinya's eyes sharpen slightly in concentration, her eyes fastened firmly on Karaul.
Raemira meets Morillin's gaze, giving a small, very brief, nod of the head.
Morillin turns back to face Karaul with one smooth motion. Coolly expressionless, she meets his gaze.
Llywen watches Karaul's face carefully.
Chrystina Sedai winces softly, glancing over at Naomi Sedai to see her reaction, then turning back to the man.
Karaul blinks his eyes tightly, arms shaking quickly for a moment. His strength appears to leave him as he falls to his knees, eyes still closed.
The Amyrlin carefully folds her hands before her, a brief nod of approval stemming from her at Morillin's unseen action by those who are not embracing. There is a shadow of emotion upon her features, perhaps pity, with a hefty dose of sympathy, "Take him to the guest room...." She murmurs, "See that he eats and rests well." She does not condemn him back to the dungeons.
Morillin takes a smooth step back, lifting her skirts slightly to ensure the man doesn't touch them.
Llywen reaches out to take the man by the arm, helping him up.
Llywen looks to Raemira for permission to speak.
Karaul raises his eyes to Morillin, a single tear streaking down his cheek as he shoves away the offered help of Llywen. A disgusted look graces his face as he pulls himself slowly to his feet.
Irinya remains in the circle, looking at Karaul without expression, if any, the expression of someone in belief in that things were done the way they had to, and were supposed to.
"Yes Llywen Sedai....?" Raemira answers the call to speak, her cool emerald gaze returning as her eyes move to the other woman.
"May the Light illumine your soul," Morillin says quietly to Karaul, without a shred of sympathy evident.
Karaul shows a bit of strain in his eyes, as he appears to be grasping out, yet the object of his desires seems just out of his reach. His eyes dart about the room hurriedly, mouth opening in an attempt to respond to Morillin, yet none finding it's way forth.
Llywen meets Raemira's gaze respectfully, "I request to be allowed to watch him, please."
Micana collects the pebbles, after observing and releasing the source, each drops back into the sack with a 'tic-tic' sound.
Morillin drops her pebble into Micana's sack, then turns her back on Karaul, believing him dealt with.
Raemira goves a brief nod of her head, "You may take first shift, another will relieve you within a few hours."
Llywen drops her pebble greatfully.
Irinya raises an eyebrow slightly at Karaul's attempt to respond to Morillin, and their exchange of words and looks today in general.
Raemira glances to Micana, then states, "I believe this concludes our business. Will you call an end to the meeting?"
Llywen nods and curtsies to Raemira, "Thank you Mother." She turns to Karaul and takes him firmly, but gently by the arm.
Raemira spies the action that Llywen takes and frowns slightly, "Do remember that he is a human being and not a piece of meat."
Llywen nods, "Yes Mother. I will not hurt him." she loosens her grip slightly and is now only holding tightly enough to lead him.
Karaul once again pulls his arm from Llywen's grasp forcefully, pulling a few words out after the Amyrlin's, "I fail to see that in the eyes of those around me....Sedai." he says, "Lead me from here, or I shall find it myself." he says, glancing about angrily for someone to lead him from the hall.
Micana nods. She lifts her staff to thud the heel three times against the floor. "With there being nothing further to be done, the business brought before this assembly of the hall is hereby concluded." The formal words dismiss those assembled.
Llywen again takes the man, gently by the arm and speaks softly, "Come, please."
Chrystina Sedai stands and leaves quickly, her emotionless face threatening to crumble with a couple more minutes in there.
Raemira waits only a few moments more before filing out after a majority of the Sisters.
Morillin proceeds calmly from the Hall. Morillin pulls open the large door that leads into the Tower Office Wing and she exits the room.
Irinya pulls open the large door that leads into the Tower Office Wing and she exits the room.
Karaul yet again pulls from the grip, "I do not seek your comfort, just lead me away from here." he says.
