Players: Ellorin, Ivaria, Marelain, Kelsyn, Megwyn, Calandra
Ivaria looks confused at the exchange.
Marelain seems moderately confused by the expression. "Oh? Just the same things we did the other day?"
Ellorin nods. "Yes," is all she says.
Marelain frowns slightly, but under the circumstances, doesn't pry any further. "Oh. Okay." She pauses, to think of something else to talk about.
Ellorin frowns a little too, seeing Marelain's reaction. "Um. But now maybe we can go riding somewhere other than the stables. When we get good enough."
Marelain nods, "Who knows when -that- will be, though." She smiles then.
Ivaria sighs softly.
Kelsyn enters the Courtyard from the Barracks.
Kelsyn has arrived.
Ellorin just nods, with a small smile in return to Marelain.
The Gaidin comes stalking out of the barracks. He bows once to those present then moves to the gates, escaping the confines of the Tower.
Kelsyn passes through the Alindrelle Gates under the watchful eyes of the Tower Guards.
Kelsyn has left.
Ellorin starts to rise to curtsey to Kelsyn, but he is gone before she has the chance. She looks after him a little curiously, settling back down on the bench.
Calandra walks down the steps into the Courtyard, after pushing through the main doors of the Tower.
Calandra has arrived.
Calandra steps out of the Tower and looks about quietly.
Ellorin is sitting on a bench, talking to Marelain, with Ivaria standing nearby.
Calandra curtsies to Megwyn and nods to the rest.
Atalanta enters the Courtyard from the Barracks.
Atalanta has arrived.
Calandra curtsies to Atalanta as well when she steps out just behind her.
Atalanta nods to acknowledge the curtsey; gives general smiles all around.
Ellorin rises from her bench to curtsey to Atalanta with a smile, then sits back down.
Megwyn stands over with a group of (NPC) women, talking quietly. (semi-idle)
Calandra looks about quietly for a few moments before sitting on a bench.
Atalanta heads out.
Atalanta passes through the SouthHarbor Gate under the watchful eyes of the Tower Guards.
Atalanta has left.
Ivaria asks softly, "Are we allowed?"
Ellorin shakes her head. "I don't know. Maybe..."
Ellorin looks towards the gate of the Tower. "I hope so..."
Ivaria sighs. "I wish I knew how."
Ellorin says ruefully, "So do I."
Megwyn's pale eyes sweep the courtyard and end up on the one lone novice still there amongst the others that pass through on obvious errands. She raises her voice to speak clearly to Ivaria. "Child. Come here."
Ivaria walks over to the Aes Sedai, curtseying, "Yes, Aes Sedai?"
Megwyn motions to the seat beside her. "Novice Ivaria, is it?"
Ivaria nods, "Yes, Aes Sedai." She takes the indicated seat with a look of open curiosity.
Megwyn says, "I have heard of you." This could be a good or bad thing. She settles her gaze on the young woman, measuring. "Tell me of your block."
Ivaria colors at both the opening statement and the question, averting her eyes as she answers. "It seems, Aes Sedai, that I cannot channel while clothed."
Megwyn looks Ivaria over from head to toe, carefully keeping a grin from spreading on her features. The corners of her mouth do quirk momentarily. "Really," she drawls.
Ivaria nods, "So it seems. Accepted Marelain has been working with me on it."
Marelain walks down from the Tower, pausing at the landing of the steps. Her eyes travel toward Ivaria and Megwyn, growing curious at hearing her name.
Megwyn looks up and smiles in an open manner. "Accepted Marelain." She glances over at Ivaria, "An interesting block. What have you done so far?"
Marelain walks over slowly, curtseying respectfully to Megwyn as she comes near.
Ivaria turns to see the accepted. She greets Marelain with a smile and a curtsey before taking her seat back with the Aes Sedai.
Marelain glances at Ivaria a moment, then back to Megwyn. She replies calmly, "In all honesty, I've done little to -break- it. Most of the work has gone into defining it. Frankly, I'm undecided on how to continue."
Megwyn's tone is frank, "Perhaps a lesson in front of some of the trainees."
Ivaria's eyes widen as her face pales and blushes a fiery red at the same time.
Marelain blinks several times in surprise. "That's an interesting proposition, Aes Sedai." She remains skeptical, though. "Would such a thing even be allowed?"
Megwyn taps her chin, "Perhaps. Had you any thoughts on the matter?"
Marelain shakes her head ruefully, "I admit to being at a loss for other ideas, Aes Sedai."
Megwyn says, "Must it be /all/ of her clothing?"
Marelain nods. "I believe so, given her initial experience with touching the Source."
Megwyn seems to have completely tuned Ivaria out, dissecting this little puzzle, "And how did you manage that?"
"To determine that, Aes Sedai?" Marelain asks. "I took her to the baths and ran her through the exercises to touch the Source. At that point, she was able to embrace without difficulty. We also tested her ability to touch it while out of the bath but still with part of her in contact with the water, clothed but in contact with water, and unclothed and not in contact with the water." She adds finally, "She could touch the Source only when she was unclothed."
Megwyn finally turns back to the Novice, looking at the young woman but obviously speaking to Marelain, "And have you any thoughts as to the cause?"
Marelain replies simply, "It seems that the first time she channeled was while she was in her bath, trying to warm up the water. She also has a little more than the usual discomfort at being naked." She shrugs slightly. "That's all I know."
Ivaria nods occasionally in agreement, still mortified at the idea proposed earlier.
Megwyn asks Ivaria now, "And you. What do you think.. no.. what do you feel your problem is?"
Ivaria blinks, "My problem? I cannot channel."
Ivaria glances over to Marelain for a moment before turning her full attention to Megwyn
Megwyn shakes her head, "Why."
Ivaria frowns in thought, unsure of what the right answer is. "I am held back. Something in my mind stops me?"
Megwyn glances over at Marelain with an exasperated look, "What is it you feel holds you back?"
Ivaria closes her eyes for a moment in thought, remembering. "There is a wrongness, a feeling of... encumbrance."
Megwyn mutters testily to herself, her Aes Sedai calm breaking noticeably, "So you feel that when clothed?"
Ivaria shrinks a little as it becomes clear her answers aren't right. "Yes, Aes Sedai."
Marelain simply watches, as if taking mental notes.
"And what about if we made you dance the jig for all the Trainees and try to channel then.. think that would make a difference?" Meg's voice needles, but for all that, she does seem to be trying to get at a particular point.
Ivaria smiles a little at that, "I do not believe so, Aes Sedai."
Megwyn mentions good-naturedly, "So. Take off your shirt and embrace the source, if you would."
Ivaria blinks. "Here, Aes Sedai?"
Marelain is plainly interested now, the corners of her mouth twitching upward despite her efforts to control them.
Megwyn says, "If you're quick enough, few will see."
Ivaria quickly strips out of her dress, closing her eyes to not see anyone who may come in.
Megwyn seems to have been waiting for something of the sort. She embraces the source as well, watching the Novice in her attempt. At the same time, she weaves delicately a shroud of Illusion about Ivaria. No-one passing by would look at such an apparently well-dressed Novice askance.
Ivaria embraces the source quickly, eyes still closed. "Is that well, Aes Sedai?"
Megwyn smiles, "Open your eyes, child."
Ivaria opens her eyes, still embracing the source. "Did that tell you something, Aes Sedai?" She tries to cover herself with her arms. Something in the motion catches her eyes, and she gapes down at herself, wearing clothes.
Megwyn glances over at Marelain, her lips moving slightly, "Well, one idea down..." It's barely a murmur. She turns back to Ivaria and beckons the girl over, pulling the crystal pendant from her throat.
Ivaria moves forward, looking confused. "I do not understand.
Marelain nods slightly, her eyes narrowing in thought.
Megwyn draws Ivaria's eyes to the stone with a gesture. "Watch this." She weaves simply, a bare thread and the gem glows for a moment. Her voice is low and steady as she explains to the girl what to do and then places it in her hand. "I want you to attempt to make the stone glow."
Darius walks down the steps into the Courtyard, after pushing through the main doors of the Tower.
Darius has arrived.
Darius walks out of the Tower, and bows low. "Good day Aes Sedai, Accepted." he says non-specifically.
Marelain glances toward Darius at the sound of his voice, giving him a brief nod of greeting before turning back to Megwyn and Ivaria.
Ivaria frowns in thought as she watches Megwyn. "Make the stone glow..." She says more to herself than to the Aes Sedai. After a moment, she hesitantly tries to duplicate the weave
Darius passes through the Osendrelle Gates under the watchful eyes of the Tower Guards.
Darius has left.
On her way back from an errand in the city, Analee passes through the gates and more fully into the courtyard, her eyes scanning those assembled there. She pauses to wonder at Megwyn and the Novice for a moment.
Megwyn rises from the bench and wanders around behind Ivaria, watching and fumbling with the clasp of her cloak.
Ivaria finally manages to duplicate the weave, causing the stone to glow faintly. Eyes alight, she exclaims, "Like that?"
Megwyn smiles and gently drops her cloak around Ivaria's shoulders, peering over to look at the stone. She nods, "Like that. Excellent." She watches to see if the glow is extinguished by the physical touch of a garment.
Ivaria looks over at Megwyn in happy surprise, "Thank you, Aes Sedai!"
Megwyn nods. "Excellent." She pulls her cloak from Ivaria's shoulders and hands the young woman's dress to her. With that she nods to Marelain and heads into the Tower. "I'll leave her to you, Accepted."
Ivaria picks up the dress, looking confused but happy, and on the verge of tears.
Megwyn leaves, disappearing into the Tower.
