A Broken Block

Cast:
Genifyr - A blocked novice
Calandra - Accepted

Genifyr's Description:
A young Andoran girl of perhaps 16 or 17, Genifyr stands about 5'10, with long golden hair which is slightly wavy, reaching down to her mid-chest. Her green eyes often seem to be staring off into space, and her thin eyelashes do not compliment them very well. Her mouth is just a tad too large for her face. She wears the white dress of a novice.

Calandra's Description:
A tall wiry girl a little under six feet tall with flaming red hair. Her frame, lithe and graceful, is covered no more by the simple dress of a novice, but the banded one signifying her as an Accepted. Her deep green eyes hold depthless emotions, a mixture that does not touch her pretty face. Her red lips smile shyly when she catches someone's eyes. A picturesque nose sits between her well spaced eyes, just above her nicely shaped lips. Delicate features match her birdlike voice, which echoes sweetly as she speaks. Her hands are callused as if from hard work and there is still dirt beneath her fingernails and on her left hand is the gold Serpent ring given to Accepteds. It's hard to tell exactly where she is from, despite the dirt beneath her nails and callused hands, she still carries herself as a noble and her speech matches that of Cairhien.

Location: Genifyr's Room: White Tower, Tar Valon
You have entered what appears to be the typical room of a Novice, designed with pure white walls that seem to be whitewashed to perfection. A single bed appears against the back wall, as well as a single desk and chair, perhaps giving the impression of a utilitarian area. There is one shelf and several pegs for personal effects as well as a trunk at the end of the bed. A small fireplace appears in the corner of the room. The winter cold is held at bay with a blazing fire in the hearth. The first bell can be heard tolling, announcing that morning has arrived.. There is a single door leading from the room, back into the hallway of the Tower.

Calandra knocks on the door and then opens it without delay, "Novice Genifyr?"

Genifyr curtsies. "Yes Accepted? I have filled the basin, as you instructed."

Calandra nods, "Good, we'll get to that. Sit down please." she speaks without much emotion and there is little shown in her face either. Some might swear she were a Sedai in an Accepted's dress. "Tell me about yourself."

Genifyr sits and asks, "What do you wish to know, Accepted?"

Calandra shrugs as she too takes a seat, "Where are you from? How did you come here? Things like that."

Genifyr says, "I was born in the village of Cold Springs, in Andor. My father is a merchant, and I traveled with him. I was discovered when we were in Tar Valon trading."

Calandra nods quietly, her face remains emotionless, although her eyes seem to.. change for a moment when Andor is mentioned. "Tell me of your family?

Genifyr says, "My father is a merchant. I have no siblings. My grandparents live in Cold Springs."

Calandra nods, "No mother?"

Genifyr seems to have something in her throat. "I would rather not discuss that."

Calandra nods, "What is your fondest memory of home?"

Genifyr says "My fondest memory? I really did not spend much time in Cold Springs, I was traveling with my father. But there was one time there I remember in particular. Jumping in the spring and getting carried along in the water. It was summer, and I was... what 8 namedays?" She wonders why Calandra is asking her these questions.

Calandra nods and smiles slightly, only her lips showing any sign of emotion, "You like water then?"

Genifyr nods. "I enjoy it." She says rather vaguely. Though she doers not say the real reason why that moment was so precious. She looks at Calandra and wonders if she's headed for the White. "You suspect, like Sionil Sedai, my block is water?"

Calandra shrugs, "How should I know?" she switches topics, "What happened after you were carried away? I suppose you can swim, yes?"

Genifyr nods. "Yes I can, Accepted."

Calandra nods and waits for the rest of her answer.

Genifyr says, "It was basically an enjoyable ride. Jump in, get carried down, get out and jump in again. All the children did that."

Calandra nods and taps her fingers slightly, "Alright, Let's try this. How did Sionil Sedai get you to touch the source the first time? Or have you."

Genifyr says, "The first time was on my own. We were in Aringill, I fell off the boat into the river-" She's said this so many times she's no longer embarrassed about the fact that she fell in a river. "It was freezing, I was being rushed downriver, and a tree snapped and stopped by descent long enough for me to be rescued. 8 days later in Tar Valon I had the reaction, I was discovered and became a novice. The second time was on my own using the flower exercise." She looks at you. "I was blocked, I never expected Saidar would reach me. I was in the laundry room washing clothes when it happened."

Calandra chuckles, "Well, water does seem to be a trigger for you. Most likely because you first channeled while in the water." she ponders, "I don't remember how we broke the other girl's block, but hers was slightly... ehem, different. I'd suggest picturing yourself on a boat in the ocean.. Can you do that?"

Genifyr closes her eyes and pictures herself on a boat in Tanchico. 'Yes, I've done that, Accepted."

Calandra nods slightly, "It's still dark out. You can see some stars way off to the west..."

Calandra's voice lowers some, "To the east there is this pale light starting to show over the water's edge..."

Genifyr nods. Calandra continues on speaking in a low voice, "A tiny bit of warmth is starting to reach you, can you feel it?"

Genifyr says blatantly "No."

Calandra continues, "It's just barely there, very lightly starting to skim across the water towards you.. Concentrate on the light... tell me when you can feel the warmth even the tiniest bit..." she says when, not if.

Genifyr puts her hand in the water in the dream, but she knows Cal is putting her hand in the basin, so it doesn't change her viewpoint.

Calandra asks, "Can you feel the warmth now?"

Genifyr says "No."

Calandra frowns, "Open your eyes child."

Genifyr opens her eyes, wondering if Accepted are supposed to call novices 'children'.

Calandra is obviously quite older than Genifyr, having been here quite a few years already. "I believe we are going to need to work on your imagination," she pauses, "You said the flower worked for you? Have you been able to touch it since?"

Genifyr says, "The flower worked for me when I was touching the water, yes. But I have not touched it since because I have not had an Accepted or Sedai with me."

Calandra nods quietly, "Alright, touch the water and use the flower again."

Calandra ponders, "Dry your hand off and try it again."

Calandra sighs, "No, dry your hand off and leave it out of the water. Then try."

Genifyr dries her hand off. She closes her eyes, pictures the rose, but is getting frustrated, and doesn't surrender, so it does not come.

Calandra sighs, "Okay, you need to relax. Forget about the rose for a moment, just close your eyes, take long deep breaths and tell me about your father."

Genifyr sighs angrily. She closes her eyes, takes deep long breaths, and says huffily. "My father's name is Jensin Belyn (OOC: Pronounced YEN-seen BELL-en). He's a merchant, and he travels around. He trades many things, and doesn't follow a specific pattern." Her voice had been losing huffiness, it's almost gone now. "He may go to Maradon in winter or summer, they'd have different needs and would buy different things, giving a greater chance for profit than if he were, say, a dye merchant.

Calandra nods and smiles, "You have traveled much then. Yes?"

Genifyr nods. "The only places he doesn't go to are Amadicia and Tear, because he does not like the law enforcement. I haven't been to Mayene though, it's not very easily accessible, especially if you don't go through Tear.

Calandra nods quietly, "Of course." she ponders, "Which is your favorite place to visit?" waiting to see when the girl has calmed down completely.

Genifyr is calm now. She says "My favorite place? I'm not sure. I liked the Domani food, if not their-" She coughs. "Clothing, or lack thereof. Their library was nice too, but not as good as the Panarch's Museum or the Cairhien Royal Library. In answer to your question, I'd have to say the Cairhien Royal Library and the Panarch's Museum."

Calandra nods quietly, "I have been to the Cairhien Royal Library often, when I was younger." she changes the subject, "Now the Rose." suddenly without warning.

Channeling Calandra embraces with ease and weaves a net to hold water with while waiting for Genifyr to attempt to touch the Source.

Genifyr closes her eyes and pictures the rose.

Channeling Calandra gathers the water up into the net once Genifyr closes her eyes and waits.

Calandra waits for the source to be touched.

Genifyr says, "It's no use. I cannot channel unless I am touching water."

Calandra shushes her, "Then put your hand in the bowl."

Genifyr puts her hand in the bowl.

Channeling Calandra weaves an illusion to make it appear as if the water is still in the bowl, while holding the water above Gen's head.

When Gen puts her hand in the bowl, Saidar reaches her. She never touched water, but she expected the water to be there after a certain point. The embrace lasts 2 seconds.

Channeling Genifyr touches the Source for about 2 seconds.

Channeling Calandra lets the water go above Gen's head.

Calandra lets the water go. "There, you did it without touching the water."

Genifyr almost misses the fact she embraced and her hand is not wet. When the water drops on her head, she jumps up and opens her eyes.

If Gen were to look at the bowl, the illusion of water would still be there.

Genifyr looks at Calandra, and runs over and hugs her before she knows what she's doing. "You broke my block!"

Calandra jumps back, "Yipes! You're wet, girl!" she laughs though. "No, you broke it. All I did was dump water on you."

Genifyr nods. "I did didn't I. Well, I guess I have to go back down to the kitchens and serve tea. Can you remove the water from me Accepted Calandra?"

Calandra chuckles and nods.

Channeling Calandra weaves a net of water and soaks up the water from Genifyr's clothes.

Calandra says "there, go on now to your chores."

Genifyr nods and scurries off.
