Cast:
Genifyr-A Novice
Mydria-Gray Sitter
Weste - Novice

Time: Early Morning

Location: Aes Sedai Living Quarters: White Tower, Tar Valon
The walls appear to be covered in various tapestries and banners, each bearing the color and telling the tale of a different Ajah, perhaps how they were even started. There are several small tables about this area, where you might see figurines, floral arrangements or other various articles used to decorate the hallway.

The thick, stone walls appear to keep the winter cold from touching the hallway. There is one lantern lit, shedding a very dim light on the hallway for any late night travelers.

Several hallways and corridors branch along this area. You'll also notice that a ramp heads up and down leading to other areas of the Tower. There are several doorways within each hallway, that you can see. All halls within this area appear to be carpeted for the Ajah that they represent.

Mydria exits her room and into the hallway. She glances about to make sure she doesn't run into anyone.

Genifyr comes down the ramp, having completed the scrubbing of her room's floor. She sees Mydria, and steps toward her. "Aes Sedai, may I speak?"

Mydria turns to look at the speaker. She pauses a moment and glances over the girl. "Child, are you not forgetting something?"

Genifyr freezes. No speaking unless spoken to, but how was she ever supposed to ask a question. "I have just spoken, Aes Sedai."

Mydria shakes her head. "I do not mind your asking permission to speak, it is something else child."

Genifyr blushes and curtseys VERY deeply.

Mydria smiles slightly, pleased that she finally remembered. "Very good child. Now, what did you wish to say?"

Genifyr asks. "I was wondering if I could find out when I would get a One Power class. I haven't gotten anything yet, aside from Dal Sedai giving me the flower exercise before I was a novice.

Mydria mmms softly. "Have you been given the introduction lesson?"

Weste smiles a little bit as she comes down the ramp, and curtseys to Mydria as she approaches.

Mydria nods politely to Weste. She stands just in front of Genifyr, apparently conversing with her.

Genifyr nods. "I was given it by Sionil Sedai, Aes Sedai."

Mydria takes another long glance at Genifyr, silently studying and weighing her. "Have you learned to embrace the source yet?"

Weste nods and stands close by in support of Genifyr. She still looks as though her mind is elsewhere though.

Genifyr shakes her head. "I tried with Dal Sedai, but the light wouldn't come to me. I could see it, but not touch it."

Mydria nods slowly. "I suppose I could give you more instruction in how to then."

Weste suddenly gets pulled out of her trance at that. "You could see it then? that's quite a feat already."

It is all Genifyr can do not to grin madly. Finally, she's going to touch the True Source! Saidar, the power that works with Saidin to drive the Wheel of Time, to turn the universe! She hears Weste, not sure how to reply.

Mydria seems to recognize the look in Genifyr's eyes. "Remember dear, it can just as easily harm you as help others. You must be careful with it. Now child, what is your name?"

Genifyr replies, "Novice Genifyr, Aes Sedai."

Weste looks almost amused, wondering how the conversation could have gotten that far without names being given. She remains quiet though, and nods supportively to Genifyr.

Mydria smiles. "A nice name, Genifyr, I am Mydria. Now, let's go to the practice room for your lesson."

Genifyr nods, shooting a grin at Weste. Now that she's grinned she can't take it off her face. She follows Mydria.

Location: Practice Room: White Tower, Tar Valon

Mydria looks around the room and finally settles her eyes on the fireplace. "Genifyr, be a dear and pull two stools near the fireplace."

Genifyr walks briskly and pulls the two stools over, taking great care to see she does not trip. She is very grateful she does not and offers a silent prayer to the Creator as she pulls the stools to the fireplace.

Mydria heads over to the fireplace, idly commenting. "You seem a bit hesitant and unsure on your feet.."

Weste comes in quietly and takes a place along the wall, trying not to disturb Genifyr's meditation.

Genifyr nods. "I... have been called clumsy before, Aes Sedai."

Mydria nods slowly. "Ah, don't overthink as sometimes it does make you clumsy, but if you need help, ask."

Weste shakes her head. "We're all clumsy sometimes. I shouldn't have fallen at all yesterday."

Genifyr mutters to herself, "... the... the broom." She tells Mydria 'Yes Mydria Sedai'

(Genifyr mutters under her breath. "Yes, I was the one who dropped the broom." She tells Mydria. "Yes Mydria Sedai.")

Mydria ignores Genifyr's muttered words as she glides across the room and then settles herself on the stool. "What did Dallia Sedai teach?"

Weste winces as she hears the word broom, and looks at Genifyr, trying to tell her she doesn't hold anything against her with her eyes.

Weste speaks up a little bit. "Mydria Sedai, may I make a request?"

Mydria turns and looks at Weste. "Of course Weste, what is it?"

Genifyr looks at Weste and sees her eyes. She nods. She says to Mydria "Dal Sedai taught me to do the flower exercise. I did not reach out to the light, but it still did not come."

Weste blushes a little bit. "I haven't been able to see the aura pop up around another channeler yet, when I've held the Source. I was wondering if I could embrace the Source so that I could look for it, if Genifyr is successful."

Mydria hmmms for a moment. "Alright, you may embrace Weste."

Weste nods and forms the image of the rosebud in her mind. She embraces the Source relatively quickly now.

Mydria turns back to Genifyr. "Do you know what Saidar and Saidin are, and the difference between them?"

Weste looks about the room at other students and Sedai but frowns as she sees only weaves, no auras. She turns back to Geni to see what her answer will be.

Genifyr says "Yes Mydria Sedai. Saidar is the female half of the True Source, and Saidin the male. Only a woman can draw on Saidar, and a man Saidin. Saidin has been tainted by the Dark One's touch since his counterstroke when Lews Therin Telamon and the Hundred Companions Sealed the Bore, which caused the Breaking of the World. Since then no man can channel without going insane, and that is the reason why Aes Sedai, particularly the Red Ajah, gentle them." She takes a breath.

Mydria chuckles softly. "Very good, but is that the only reason for the Aes Sedai?"

Weste looks curiously at Mydria, wondering where the question came from.

Genifyr answers "No Mydria Sedai. Another important function is preparing for Tarmon Gaidon, the Last Battle. This is done in particular by the Green Ajah. The Grays, on the other hand, act as mediators and keep foolish men from killing each other over silly things. Yellow Sisters concentrate on Healing the sick. Browns-" She puts emphasis on Brown and smiles. "preserve knowledge and history. Blues..." She hesitates, and decides to quote Sionil Sedai. "focus on causes, and usually have their own causes outside the Tower, though none would admit it. Whites..." She thinks. "I'm not sure about the White Ajah."

Mydria holds up her hand when she starts. "That's enough, just wanted to make sure you didn't think we were one dimensional, nor is are any of the Ajahs one dimensional."

Weste nods, though she keeps her thoughts, especially about Ajahs being one dimensional, to herself.

Genifyr says "I've forgotten what the White Ajah does, Mydria Sedai. Something ripped off the Browns I think." Genifyr closes her mouth, not believing she said that, and hopes Mydria is NOT a White.

Mydria blinks in shock and then raises a hand to her mouth and turns her face for a moment. She pretends to cough. "Excuse me."

Weste openly gapes, and suddenly wonders if Mydria is a ta'veren... that's the only way she can believe what she just heard. She also glances around nervously for other Whites.

Genifyr is dead white. "I did not mean that Mydria Sedai I just remembered the word knowledge being said to me when I heard about the Whites....

Mydria turns back to Genifyr. "Umm, who did you hear that from, or is that your own opinion?"

Weste looks a little relieved that no Whites appear to be approaching. Getting a White angry is not pretty, even with their seemingly emotionless demeanor.

You say "I... I... I... associate the Brown's with knowledge, and Sionil mentioned the word knowledge to me when she told me about the White Ajah."

Mydria nods slowly. "I shall impart some knowledge that surely will set you at ease, I am of the Gray Ajah. Now, I certainly do not object to you forming your own opinions although they may change. However, I do advise you that some should be kept strictly to yourself."

Weste nods in agreement to Mydria. She is finally able to close her gaping mouth, but she still says nothing.

Genifyr realizes she hadn't taken a breath since her last sentence, and inhales deeply. She manages to say "Yes Mydria Sedai. May I ask what the White Ajah does so this does not happen again?

Mydria says simply. "They study logic and reason more than knowledge. They seek what is 'right'.

Genifyr asks "Shall I picture the flower?"

Weste nods. "The White Ajah devotes themselves to the philosophy, that logic can govern any situation. This has caused many of them to try and forsake emotions, since they cloud judgement." She sounds like she is quoting from some text.

Mydria looks over at Weste. "Very good dear."

Genifyr closes her eyes and pictures a white rose, and quickly changes it to a yellow rose. She imagines herself as this.

Mydria embraces the source and watches Genifyr. "Stay calm dear, are you imagining a rose?"

Accepted Enron peeks into the room, and spotting Weste comes in and approaches the group curtseying to Mydria. "Weste, you wanted to know when the Mistress of Novices would be back? I just passed her office and saw her there, I'd suggest you hurry."

Genifyr nods. "A Yellow rose." She hears Enorra, stands up and Curtseys, sits back down and pictures the rose with absolutely no difficulty.

Weste nods and hurries out after releasing the Source. The plump accepted follows, murmuring something about running errands.

Mydria says quietly. "You don't have to curtsy to anyone except the Amyrlin during a lesson."

Genifyr says "I can see the light, but it's not coming to me? Does that mean I'm blocked? Or do I have to reach out?

Mydria says simply. "Don't struggle, let it come to you, relax and welcome it."

Genifyr relaxes, but it does not come. "It's not coming to me." She says with a small frown.

Mydria still has a calm voice. "That's alright, just relax and ignore it. Take deep easy breaths."

Genifyr relaxes and ignores the light, and concentrates on being the flower. Since she's never actually touched the light on purpose, and doesn't know what she's missing, she is quite contented, and a smile appears on her lips.

Genifyr says "Not on purpose, though I did once on accident. 8 days before I was discovered.

Mydria hmmms to herself. "Now stay calm and breath deeply. Now, tell me about what happened?"

Genifyr says "I was in Aringill, and I fell into the river. It was very cold, and churned by the riverboats. I didn't really think about anything, but a large tree snapped and stopped my descent downriver long enough for me to be rescued.

Mydria watches Genifyr to make sure she stays calm. "Tell me, what was the weather like?"

Genifyr says "It had only recently stopped raining. Maybe more like sleet. It was quite a shock to fall in the cold water though.

Mydria continues to just probe. "Was it sunny, cloudy? Did anyone see it?"

Genifyr says "My father and the ship crew saw it." At this she blushes slightly. "I'm not sure about the weather. On the cloudy side I think."

Mydria asks in a neutral voice. "Be honest, do you find some men attractive?"

Weste re-enters the practice room, with a smile that is /much/ wider than the one she wore earlier. Her cheeks are flushed for some reason though. She quietly walks back up to Mydria and Genifyr.

Genifyr says "Find men attractive Mydria Sedai? Well, a few, but it makes no difference unless I like their personality."

Mydria nods slowly to herself, ignoring Weste for the moment. "Was there anyone on the ship that you might have considered attractive?"

Weste's ears perk up at Mydria's question. She wonders what she has stumbled into.

Genifyr turns a shade pinker and says "Well, I... I... thought this one man was... a bit..."

Mydria keeps her voice gentle. "He was handsome?"

Weste is too happy not to look a little amused, but she says nothing, not wishing to embarrass Genifyr more than she already is.

Genifyr says "Yes. A little bit. Why are you asking me this, anyway?" She asks a bit sharply.

Mydria ignores Genifyr's own question. "Did you realize you were channeling?"

Genifyr says "It's kind of hard to realize anything when you are half in and out of water.

Mydria says "But did you realize it or not?"

Genifyr says "No. I had a reaction 8 days later, was discovered and became a novice."

Mydria replies. "Thank you. Did you channel again after that?"

Genifyr says "No. I couldn't even touch Source with Dal Sedai."

Mydria says "Now open yourself again, let the source come to you."

Weste looks to Mydria, her previous question on her eyes again.

Genifyr pictures the yellow rose more clearly, and looks toward the light, but nothing happens.

Mydria asks quietly. "Nothing?"

Genifyr says "No. You think I'm blocked don't you?"

Weste blinks at the directness of the question, but it was what she herself was thinking, with Mydria's questions.

Mydria nods. "I suspect you are. Relax and stop trying to embrace."

Genifyr does so, and opens her eyes. "That wouldn't seem to make sense though. I would think if I am blocked it would have to do something with shock, perhaps.

Mydria shakes her head. "It could be many things, thus my questions."

Weste nods, her mouth turned grim. "It really could be anything... I remember what I was put through."

Genifyr still thinks it has something to do with shock. "Weste, what was your block, if you don't mind telling me?"

Mydria turns and looks at Weste. "Why don't you help Genifyr figure it out? But no channeling without permission."

Weste nods to Mydria. "Yes, Mydria Sedai." Turning to Genifyr, she says. "It turned out I couldn't channel unless I was outside, in direct sunlight."

Mydria smiles. "Well, I think we are done for now Genifyr. I'll leave you to your chores."
