Background: Milli, Sionil and Jaice are talking in the Infirmary about a favour the Wisdom had to ask of the two Accepted, but the three are soon interrupted by Coliena Sedai. The ensuing task proves to be more than any of them bargained...
Setting: Infirmary: White Tower, Tar Valon
Jaice's lips curve at the Aes Sedai's words, but she merely inclines her head in response. Light knows it's not smart to agree with an Aes Sedai when she says her room is messy. "I had done some work with Maeve on her project before she left, Aes Sedai; so I have been in there once before. I do suspect it would go faster with the three of us, though." The Atha'an Miere somehow manages to hide her eagerness at exploring about in the Ter'angreal storage room, her face as expressionless and as unreadable as ever.
Milli smiles. "Ah, Ter'angreal. I have read much about those. I have never seen one though. There was this one particular I read of..." She cuts off short, clapping her mouth shut and casts an apologizing glance at the Aes Sedai. "My pardons, Aes Sedai. I let my mouth run."
Sionil gives a slight smile at the joke from the Aes Sedai
Milli quickly sits down instead, another thankful glance towards the Accepteds as she starts carefully taking the books out from her drawer and placing them on the table.
Coliena nods to what Jaice said, "All three of you can come. I'd like this not to take all night, and I would not want to take all of your time as well." She looks at Milli, who she does not know, "It's alright. I do the same thing quite often." Again she chuckles. After a second she adds in a somewhat serious voice, "You may all come as long as you don't touch anything without asking about it first. Some of the ter'angreal down there are not totally safe if you do not know what you are doing."
The dark-skinned Accepted seems content enough with that. "Of course, Aes Sedai." With a swish of skirts and a few rolling, fluid steps, Jaice begins to step toward the door.
Sionil nods once and follows along.
Milli eyebrows rise, much as the smile on her face. "Thank you, Aes Sedai. I would appreciate that oppourtunity." Placing the inkwell and papers that she was taking from the drawer last on the desk, she stands and gives an inclination of her head. "I am Milli Al'Sain, Aes Sedai. Hired Wisdom here at the Infirmary."
Milli also starts following, but remains behind Coliena.
Coliena gives a final nod and says before turning, "You may call me Coliena, or Coliena Sedai if you prefer." Then she starts out the door.
The four women make their way to the basement of the Tower.
Sionil wrinkles her nose at the odors of the basement
Milli wrinkles her nose, giving a sniff.
Coliena leads down many dusty, dark tunnels until finally reaching a thick wooden door. She pulls out a key and unlocks the door and opens it, revealing a very cluttered storage room with selves of objects and even a few unopened crates.
Jaice follows closely behind the Brown Sister -- Light knows it wouldn't do to get lost in these passageways -- and peers around in the gloom as she emerges into the storage room. "What does the one we're looking for look like, Aes Sedai?"
Milli follows, staying back and looking around at the strange objects stored there. A muttered "Amazing." echoes through the room.
Sionil takes in the various items throughout the room
Coliena, who is used to dust so she doesn't notice it, smiles, "A prism set in a wooden frame, with a gilded leaf on it. It's about this big." She makes a very small gesture. In other words it's tiny. Going to be very hard to find.
Milli nods as she walks slowly through the jumble of items. "I will look as well, Coliena Sedai." She adds a hasty "Without touching, of course." She disappears behind some crates, her muttered "truly amazing" lingering as you hear her shuffle about.
Jaice isn't so lucky. After stiffling a series of sneezes, she finally holds a hand over her nose so the dust won't render her useless. "Prism, frame, leaf," she mutters to herself, her feet kicking up dust in tiny clouds. "Does the Tower know what all these -do-?"
Sionil begins to walk through the shelvings, giving a slight sneeze at the kicked up dust
Coliena chuckles softly and shakes her head, "Unfortunatly, no. But we know what a good amount of them do." She obviously has a lantern with her.
Sionil again sneezes from the dust, "Sorry."
Coliena shakes her head, "Don't worry about sneezing."
Shadows leap and dance about the myriad of objects here as the Aes sedai moves about, and Jaice follows close to one side, peering into the gloom. She comes across a small box, looking for all the world like something you'd store your jewelry in. "What's this one do?"
Sionil starts to move to a darker portion, "Is it safe to make a glowball?"
Coliena looks at the box, "Oh. That one seals shut whatever you wish to keep unless properly opened. Unless opened in this one way nothing, not the strongest man, can open it." She glances over at Sionil, "I wouldn't want to chance it, but if you'd must..." She adds as an alternative, "There are lanterns and flint over there," she points, "that you can use."
Milli's voice comes from the far end of the room. "These leaves, are they shaped like the leaves of the Avendesora tree?"
Sionil ahhhs "That works as well," The accepted walks over and takes a lantern, and lights it up
"Prism.... prism..." Jaice can be heard muttering under her breath as she sorts through packaged objects, unwrapping the cloth from one only to package it up with a soft-spoken, "No, not that one..." She's silent for a few minutes more, uttering soft grunts as she shifts crates to get behind things, but then her voice chimes out once more. "What's the most interesting Ter'angreal here, in your opinion, Aes Sedai?" Light forbid Jaice should quash that insatiable curiousity of hers.
Sionil moves back to the shelves, now with a light, she lifts it up to look through the different objects
Coliena nods to Milli, "Yes." Then looks around and answers Jaice, "Ummm. In my opinion I like this one..." She picks up something that looks a flute with a vine wrapped around it. "It helps with Wards, beleive it or not."
"Wards?" Jaice studies the flute for a few moments, then turns back to her hunting. As she comes across something looking remarkably like a picture frame she asks, "They don't store furnishings in here, do they?"
A chuckle is heard, followed by loud coughing from behind the crates.
Sionil glances about "What does this one do? It's a circlet, looks like a crown or something."
Milli reappears from behind the crates, her hair now filled with cobwebs. "Not behind there, from what I see." She looks with interest at the item Sionil is referring to.
Jaice bends to blow some of the dust off the frame -- all of which obligingly flies into the air -- and gives it another look before perusing a crate next to it. "Prism, prism, prism..."
Coliena chuckles herself, "No. That's a ter'angreal." She glances over at Sionil, "Oh. That one must be the 'presense' one. I've read that anyone wearing it becomes very regal in appearance and stature almost instantly, at least to everyone else. And whatever they say is automatically followed by everyone in hearing range." She adds as an after thought, "But you have to activate it first." Note: She doesn't say how to activate it. Heh.
Milli 's eyebrows rise, and a gentle grin spreads across her face as she mutters something under her breath. Milli looks thoughtfully at a full-size mirror standing over by a wall. "Are you certain they don't store furniture here?"
Jaice brushes smears of dust off her skirt, straightening to examine the frame again. "It looks like it'd be better off on a wall," she says of it. "What does it do?" As though just remembering herself then, she casts Coliena an apoligetic, sheepish smile. "I am sorry for the questions, Aes Sedai. Some tell me I have too much curiousity for even ten Accepted."
Coliena looks over at the frame, "Oh... well... we don't know what that one does. The Brown has been studying it for over a hundred years and no one has been able to figure it out. It should be safe to touch if you want." She looks at Milli and chuckles, "I hope nothing in here is, but you never know. Something may have been misplaced."
Milli grins and gives a small chuckle herself, turning to look again for the Ter'Angreal.
"They have tried channelling at it and everything?" Jaice seems intrigued now, and crouches beside the large frame, so that it stands even taller than she. One dark finger brushes along its edge, experimentally. "It seems like normal wood."
Sionil wanders back towards the group
Coliena nods, "I've read studies of ones who've tried channeling almost every flow one could come up with at it. Nothing seems to work. Some have wondered if it's a... certain type of ter'angreal that is not activated by saidar." She goes back to looking at a shelf.
There is a long silence as Jaice studies the frame, but it's broken soon enough. "Can I try it?" A hopeful question to be sure; but if an entire Ajah of browns could not activate it in a hundred years, surely it must be harmless. "A thin flow of spirit, perhaps? I've never tried channelling at a... Ter'angreal. If it is one."
Milli turns towards the others, indicating a long staff with a crystal prism set in the top. "Hm, I have a prism here. Now all we need is a frame and golden leaves." She snickers at her own sense of humour, turning as dry as the dust in the room.
Sionil snickers slightly "Can't put two together, can you." She says over towards Milli
Milli shakes her head. "I wouldn't be around if you tried." She grins and walks over to Coliena, helping her look through the shelves.
Coliena has her attention directed three ways, so after a moments hesitation she nods, "You can try. I'm sure you won't do it any harm. Just be careful to only direct flows at that one..." She offers a smile to the other young women.
Milli casts an uncertain glance in the direction of Jaice, but soon discards the thought. "How many of these do you actually know the function of? And how to use it?"
Jaice's eyes light at those words -- you'd swear Coliena has just moved to top spot on her list of Aes Sedai -- and she turns carefully toward the frame. "Yes, Aes Sedai. There aren't any others right near it anyway." She pauses a moment, considering the object before her, and then delicately takes hold of the Source.
Coliena thinks a moment, "I'd say.. maybe one out of four. We know what most of them are said to do, but lost the triggers on some of them. And others we don't know any." She glances over at Jaice and the picture frame.
Milli gapes at Coliena. "That's... A lot. I guess it keeps many of the Brown Ajah busy?" She carefully blows the dust from a black case, looking at it thoughtfully. "What's in this?"
Coliena umms softly, "I don't know what is in that one. I've only read half of the storage papers, and I don't think I've read of that one. It likely has nothing inside of it though."
Milli nods and continues looking.
The slender Atha'an Miere seems totally absorbed in what she is doing, her brows furrowed over an intent gaze. Thin threads of Spirit snake from her to join in a delicate weave, ever so careful.
Now it's true that there have been rumours as to the nature of this Ter'angreal -- there are those Aes Sedai who really do insist it is nothing but a picture frame -- but it is also true that there have been extremely strange happenings in the city as of late. Rumours of bad luck, of the influence of the Dark One, perhaps; but certainly the city that houses the White Tower has been plagued with bubbles of ill-fortune.
Thus it is perhaps unfortunate that Jaice chose such a time to experiment; for as she forms her simple weave of spirit, the flows quickly begin to take a shape of their own; splitting into four, and forming an intricate weave so fast as to be barely seen, they trigger the four corners of the frame. A bright flash fills the room, and when enough time has passed for the spots to stop dancing before your eyes, you notice there is one less Accepted present. Jaice has disappeared.
Old Storage Room: Cairhien, Cairhien
Forgotten and dusty, this old storage room is filled with the remenants of some noble's castaways. Several pieces of furniture are covered with large dropcloths, old paintings lay stacked against the plain wooden walls, and numerous carpets sit rolled and stacked against the far side of the room, gathering dust. A trail of footprints lead through the thin layer of dust on the floor, coming from the large polished pictureframe that lies propped against an old sofa.
A lurch, a faint sense of nausea, and Jaice finds herself swaying, one hand reaching out to steady herself against the frame. It's still there -- but as she shakes her head to clear it, she notices everything else isn't. Or is. It's just different.
Oh no.
"Oh by Stormbringer's beard," Jaice whispers, her eyes wide as she stares dazedly about the room. "Where under the Light've I gone?" It takes another few minutes for her to get her bearings. How could this have happened?
It's a dream. It must be a dream. I'm really in the Tower. If I close my eyes and open them again, everyone will be there.
"Coliena?"
Nothing.
Jaice takes a few dazed steps to the grimy window at the far end of the room, and with a protesting groan the window slides open. Peering down the street, Jaice can't help but gasp in disbelief. This is nothing at all like Tar Valon; but by the revelry and commotion in the streets, there is only one possibility it could be.
She's in Cairhien.
Meanwhile, back at the Tower...
*POOF*
Sionil blinks and turns around, not feeling the power anymore, "What? Where?"
Coliena jumps at the flash and turns toward the ter'angreal, gasping as she sees once the light has diminished that Jaice is gone. She blinks, and blinks again. She's never had to handle this type of situtation before. She manages in a soft voice, "Jaice...?"
Milli swears loudly. "Drats! Lightforsaken bubbles! I *knew* there was more to this than just lucktwisting."
Sionil blinks and glances at Milli "What are you talking about?"
Milli claps her mouth shut, looking from Coliena to Sionil as a red tinge rises in her cheeks. "I promised Rayche Sedai I wouldn't speak of this."
Coliena mouth quivers for a minute, then she says to the two, "I think we should get out of here... before something else happens..." Her voice actually shakes a little.
Milli stares at Coliena. "But what about Jaice?!"
Sionil nods towards Coliena, looking to Milli, "If you know something that will help..."
Coliena gives her head a shake, "I must tell Mother of this immediately. She'll know what needs to be done. For all we know... Jaice could be in the middle of the Aiel Waste right now... something must have triggered..." She trails off, looking very frustrated, and as if she might start crying. Not many Aes Sedai lose an Accepted after all.
Milli shakes her head. Looking to Sionil, she speaks with a very steady voice, her dark eyes unyielding at her. "Do you swear not to speak of what I say now? This is yet only speculation, and there are enough rumours already."
Sionil shakes her head slightly "I think Coliena Sedai is right, perhaps you should tell the Amyrlin what you know, Milli."
Milli nods, and follows Coliena.
Coliena heads out the door and almost forgets to close and lock it... she looks back guiltily and then lets the two through and closes the door, locking it. She takes a breath to steady herself before she starts crying or making a fool of herself. She starts to lead the way down the dark passageways and back up to the Tower.
Sionil looks a little worried, but keeps an eye on Milli at the same time
Coliena looks /very/ worried. She's leads the group toward the Entrance Hall.
misc travel deleted
Milli speaks to Coliena. "I could use my notes. Do we have time?"
Coliena looks at Milli, "Uh.. yes.. I'm sure a few minutes won't hurt..."
Milli nods, and runs up the ramps to be able to meet them back at the office wing after getting them.
misc travel deleted
Milli comes down the ramps at a dead run, nearly stumbling in her own skirts as she enters.
Sionil looks to Coliena "What do we do, Aes Sedai?"
Coliena looks about to cry and finds herself muttering, "I wish Severan was here..."
Sionil wrinkles her nose, "Sedai, it was not your fault." She looks to Milli briefly
A Novice sweeping the floors gives the group a funny look. An Aes Sedai about to cry and an Accepted comforting her? That's new.
Sionil glances frowningly at the novice, 'nil not known for her anger, might just let it out upon a snooping novice.
Milli is carrying a decent sized bundle of paper in her hands as she rejoins Coliena and Sionil. "This is what I have on the subject. It's not much, I only started after the incident in the Infirmary."
Coliena still looks about to cry anyway. She looks at the notes, "What incident?" ... "And should we speak about it elsewhere?"
Milli nods. "Perhaps that is a good idea. I think you look like you need some tea."
Sionil ignores the novice now, "Perhaps your room, Aes Sedai?"
Coliena nods, she does need to sit down before she can go see the Amyrlin... She pauses though. "I..." She sighs, trailing off, as if afraid to make a fool of herself. Again.
Sionil nods and tries to lead Coliena up the stairs, out of the public
The three make their way into the Aes Sedai living quarters.
Morillin comes out of Morillin's Room.
Sionil stands with Coliena, and Milli. She gives a curtsey towards Morillin as she comes down the hall
Coliena sighs and can't help herself. She motions toward a Novice and says, "Go down and have a message delivered to the Guildmaster of the Entertainers. Have whoever goes tell him that Coliena Sedai requests his presence immediately. And see that he is escorted to my room." She looks upset, flustered and about to cry. But trying to hide it.
Milli is carrying some papers in her hands, some of them dropping to the floor as she hurriedly curtseys to Morillin. She hastily picks them up again, her face quite pale.
Morillin wanders in from the direction of the Red quarters, reading a book as she goes and generally ignoring those she almost tramples. Pausing to mark her place with a finger, she looks up and gives the small group nearby a nod. "Good eve," she says quietly. She tilts her head to one side in a considering fashion, before asking, "Is all well?"
Coliena opens her mouth, then closes it. Bloody Oaths. After a moment of considering, "I have a matter to discuss with these two."
Milli vehemently shakes her head. "I would say not, Morillin Sedai."
Sionil's face remains calm and she's trying to give an emotionless look to it, she gives a slight glance towards Milli but remains silent.
The Novice scurries off to do what Coliena asked.
Morillin lifts an eyebrow in Milli's direction, glancing at Coliena. "Of course, sister," she murmurs, though her gaze does drift right back to Milli as she finishes speaking. She glides to a distant part of the room, too far away to hear anything said, but able to watch.
Coliena nods and walks over to the Brown section, leading them toward her room without a word. It takes her a minute to get her hand steady to unlock the door to her room though.
Sionil looks down the corridor, the one for the brown's "After you, Aes Sedai." she says slightly firmly, but not forcibly, but trying to get Coliena to move along.
The three enter Coliena's room
Coliena enters the room and slowly closes the door behind her. She sniffles to herself and moves over to the bed to sit down. After moving some papers and books aside.
Severan makes it known that he wishes to be admitted to your location.
As soon as Coliena is sitting there is a knock on the door. She stands up to go answer it.
You admit Severan to your location.
Coliena's breath catches as she sees who it is. She could be better for wear. She looks pale and about to start crying any minute. She doesn't even attempt to hide it now. Not that she's in private at least.
Milli doesn't look much better herself, again looking around for a place to sit. Moving a few books away from a chair and hesitantly putting them on the floor, she dumps down in it, quite faster than she intended.
Severan glides into the room from the hallway. His eyes contain curiosity as they quickly scan the room and its occupants. He turns, offering a word of thanks to the Novice who escorted him before silently closing the door. A small smile shows on his face as he turns back towards the others, a smile which disappears once he sees Coliena. "Coliena?" He glances at the others, then moves towards her. "What's wrong?"
Sionil looks towards the doorway, briefly
[Channeling] Sionil weaves a ward against easedropping around the room.
Coliena sniffles softly and looks about to break through whatever control she had going. She just lost a person. Someone she liked. Now that the door is closed she allows it to break. She moves forward and hugs Severan, buring her face in her shoulder, allowing to cry finally. After a moment she manages, "I'm so glad you came..."
Milli nods slightly, turning the papers in her hands. "Uhm..." She casts a glance towards Severan and Coliena, deciding that waiting would do no harm.
Sionil remains calm, her face still not showing any emotion
Severan holds Coliena tightly, a hand stroking back her hair. "Shh... It's alright..." His words are comforting, but his face shows confusion. He glances over Coliena's head first at Milli, then at Sionil with unspoken questions in his eyes.
Sionil looks towards Coliena, "Is it safe to tell him, Aes Sedai?"
Milli looks at Severan, shaking her head and settling to bite her knuckles, her face a pale white.
Coliena nods after a minute or two, "You can tell him..." She manages after a few tries in a week voice. "It is safe..."
Milli nods, again shuffling papers and clearing her throat several times before starting. "Hrm... I began researching this... after the incident in the infirmary... The windows, you know." She looks around for confirmation that they all have.
Sionil nods and takes a deep breath, perhaps the first crack in the armor of emotionlessness, "We were in the storage area, looking for a ter'angreal. Jaice, one of the accepted, wanted to examine one, and when she channeled, something happened and she dissapeared. But it was not Coliena Sedai's fault."
Severan still holds Coliena, remaining silent. His attention moves about, first making sure that Coliena is alright, then turning to Milli and Sionil.
Severan blinks, trying to listen as both girls speak at once. He turns to Milli. "The windows in the infirmary? I'm sorry, I hadn't heard..."
Coliena sniffles and mutters a sorry to Severan. Something about getting his coat all wet.
Severan nods. "I haven't been about the city as much as I ought, lately. There's been an uncommon streak of bad luck amongst entertainers, as well. I nearly had a boy slice himself apart yesterday." He glances down at the papers. "That?" He looks to Sionil. "You mentioned someone disappearing? Because of a ter'angreal?"
Severan smirks and mutters something back to Coliena.
Severan whispers "If you need a shoulder to cry on, don't worry about my coat..."
Sionil nods "That's why she's fretful, Coliena Sedai blames herself."
Milli gives a harrumph, nearly worthy a Red. "And I was certain this was just my mind playing tricks, and just pursued it for the fun of it." She looks down at the papers again, as if they were ready to attack her. "Now i'm not so sure."
Coliena gives a small nod to what Severan says then mutters in response to what Sionil said, "It is my fault... I shouldn't have let her play with the ter'angreal..."
Sionil shakes her head no, "No, you said it had been studied for hundreds of years with no success, You would not know that it would trigger because of Jaice's weavings."
Severan looks down at Coliena with a sad smile. "Your fault? Perhaps if you'd made the ter'angreal, yes." He nods at Sionil's words. "You had no way of knowing. What's done is done, now; no use tormenting yourself over it." He smiles, wiping away a tear from her eye.
Coliena sniffles and jokes softly, "But I've really honed my self-tormenting skills these last few years..." Truth, but meant as a joke anyway. Then she gives a nod, "I'll try not to blame myself... but I still should have realized something might happen..." She glances at Sionil. She blinks slightly. This Accepted sounds more like an Aes Sedai than she does.
Sionil looks to Coliena "I don't know how to do this though, we need your experience to find out what happened."
Severan's sad smile turns into a look of genuine concern. His eyes examine Coliena for a moment before turning to Sionil and Milli. "Finding her would likely be the best course of action. What did you say her name was?"
Coliena wipes the tears, now that she's had her moment to cry about it she's fine, "Alright. Well we know it was either some kind of ter'angreal that transported her somewhere, or one that made her... invisible... I highly doubt the latter. I'd say she's likely been transported elsewhere. Now all we need to know is where, and how to get her back..." She trails off, thinking. Then answers Severan's question, "Her name is Jaice."
Sionil thinks a moment, not really knowing Jaice's last name "Jaice... Jaice Slow... no, She's an Atha'an Miere, I can't remember it at the moment, I've only really known her as Jaice."
Milli mutters. "Jaice din Coris Swift Sea."
Severan arches an eyebrow. "The Seafolk girl? The one who sank a ship in the south harbour?"
Sionil nods slightly "I believe that's what happened when she broke her block."
Severan nods. "A gleeman started making a tale about that..." He grins a moment before his aspect returns to a more somber state. He regards all three, although still close to Coliena. "Have you any indication where she might be?"
Coliena shakes her head no too. "The only way to know would to try and activate the ter'angreal again... but I didn't see what flows she was using... and the ... bad luck may not be in the same place again."
Milli nods and casts a careful glance at Coliena. "There's this... I found in a book from the Age of Legends. It says that the Dark One is still able to touch the pattern from his prison. To send... patches of evil across the weave."
Coliena blinks slightly, not understanding, "How could a book writen in the Age of Legends speak of something that is happening today? ... I hope the wheel has not fully turned yet... I was thinking it may be a ter'angreal. I'd heard of one that had this effect."
Sionil glances at Milli "And that was the trigger? A patch of evil. It sounds too coincidental, Why would they make something to only activate with something like that."
Severan blinks once at the mention of the Dark One, but otherwise remains still and silent.
Sionil looks to the other three "Would a little research into this help, perhaps. And a discussion with Atalanta Sedai and the Amyrlin?
Coliena nods, "Of course. I'll go down and talk to one of them as soon as I am able..." In other words once she calms down enough.
[Channeling] Sionil embraces the source and quickly removes her weave on the doorway then releases it
Sionil gives a curtsey Sionil exits the room
Severan tightens his hold on Coliena slightly after relaxing it while they were speaking of ter'angreal and the Dark One. He gives Sionil a small smile as she leaves.
Coliena sniffles slightly and pulls herself closer to Severan, "I'm so glad you were able to come quickly..."
Severan sighs, lowering his head beside hers. "I came as soon as I received your message..." He hesitates a moment, then adds, "I was a little worried that something had happened to you... Or that you were leaving again... I suppose you'll be going off to find Jaice?"
Coliena swallows, "I don't know.. I have no idea where to look right now.. I think it would be best if I stayed and researched." She looks up, "You were worried something had happened to me?"
Severan smiles, looking down at her. "I don't recall you sending for me before. I thought that something must have happened to you, but the Novice who escorted me said that she hadn't heard of anything happening to you."
Coliena gives a small smile, "Well I am in good health.. just worried about Jaice... I hope nothing has happened to her." She sighs. She obviously still blames herself.
Severan brushes back a strand of hair from her face, his hand moving across her cheek. "No matter what's happened, it isn't your fault, Coliena." He smirks. "It's probably the fault of some Aes Sedai in the Age of Legends who was too lazy to ride where she wanted to go."
Coliena smiles softly, looking up at him, "This is why I requested you... you always know what to say and do to make me feel better..." She reaches up and ruffles his hair slightly. "I'm going to have to make sure you're around when I need you all the time."
Severan smiles, looking into her eyes. He sighs again, but says nothing, again pulling her close.
Later that evening, in the Amyrlin's Office...
Coliena makes it known that she wishes to be admitted to your location.
Coliena enters the room, coming in from the Keeper's Office.
Raemira sits quietly at her desk, writing upon some papers. "Enter..." She calls out, putting down her quill as she looks up. A brow lifts as she spies Coliena, "Daughter..." She greets, unknowing about the situation that just transpired.
Coliena has obviously taken a few minutes to calm down, though the turmoil on her face still shows. She gives a formal curtsy, almost more formal than usual and says, "Mother, I have some... disturbing news to inform you of." Her voice is barely kept calm.
A brow lifts faintly at Coliena's words, "Disturbing news?" Raemira speaks, her voice taking on a note of suspicion, "Please, sit." She motions to a chair.
Coliena takes a breath and straightens, moving toward the chair and sitting. She licks her lips staying silent until she is settled in the chair, skirts being smoothed unconsiously with her hands. She seems unsure of how to start, so she goes right to the important business, "I took two Accepted and a hired healer down into the ter'angreal storage room, to see if they could help me locate one I wanted to study on for this report I am writing up..."
Raemira quirks a brow faintly, "Go ahead..." Raemira speaks, her eyes riveted upon Coliena, carefully studying and watching her every nuance and move.
Coliena swallows slightly before continuing, "Once down there they asked a great deal of questions, especially Accepted Jaice. She was very interested in what the ter'angreal did. There was one in that caught her eye. One that the Brown has been studing for years, and have not yet found a use for it, nor how to activate it. It looks like a picture frame."
Raemira inclines her head faintly, "I recall vaguely some of the recent reports regarding it. Someone had wanted to throw it out as trash, but I ordered it stay put. There is no telling how dangerous something we even suspect can be."
Coliena flinches a little, looking slightly guilty, "I must have missed that report, Mother." She pauses, "The other Accepted was asking many questions as well, what this one did, what that one did, and why we didn't know what those did. You know. The normal things. While I was somewhat distracted between Accepted Sionil and Milli, Jaice asked if she could look at the ter'angreal. I didn't think it could do anything. If fifty some Browns couldn't figure it out after a hundred or so years, what could she possibly do..." She trails off and studies the desk with her eyes.
At that particular moment a dark look passes over Raemira's features, "-What- -happened-?" She seems to catch the significance within the words, hackles raising. She leans forward, as if whatever Coliena has to tell had better be good.
Coliena flinches again and says softly, "I let Jaice channel some small Spirit flows at it and somehow she must have activated it, and before I knew what was happening there was this flash of bright light and she .... wasn't there anymore." She looks down at her hands and looks to be bracing herself.
"-Wasn't- -there-?" Oh boy, does ever the Amyrlin's voice raise, "Well where -is- she?"
Coliena takes a breath, eyes still on her hands as she whispers in a very soft voice, "I don't know."
Emerald eyes seem to flare darkly, hardening slightly. There is no missing the fire burning there, "Then you had best start finding out, now hadn't you? I want you to work with that ter'angreal until you figure out how to activate the bloody thing, and bring her back here!" Rational? Well, maybe not, but... well... would you be if you just lost a student, and heard she disappeared out of thin air?
Coliena nods vigoriously, "I won't do anything else until I find her. I'll search every book and work with that ter'angreal until I find some way to activate it..." She sounds near tears for a second, but pushes it away. She was the one who lost the student out of thin air after all. "I'll find her if I spend my entire life searching." She clenches her fists. She's lost too many things lately to let this one slip away too.
Raemira narrows her eyes, "Make sure that you -do-. You are dismissed. You also have the dubious pleasure of telling Atalanta that yet -another- of her students has gone missing." That, above everything, is the worst fate she could give, "I will not watch her become as distraught as she did when she realized the others were -taken- for dark purposes."
Coliena nods, "Of course, I will go tell her immediately and then go down and dig out every book I can." She finally looks up from her hands finally, eyes showing how upset she is because of these happenings. She moves to stand after pausing for a moment to look back at the Amyrlin Seat.
"You are dismissed, then, Daughter." Raemira watches Coliena, her gaze not softening one bit.
Coliena curtsies as she stands, then straightens and turns, muttering, "I am sorry, Mother. I will try to set it right." Then she walks toward the door.
