Participants: Coliena, Morillin, Raemira
Background: It had been several days since the report that Jaice had dissappeared into thin air in the Ter'angreal storage room, and since then Coliena had been working day and night to research anything that might hint to where the wayward Accepted had gone. Rumours flew around the Tower, that Jaice was dead, that she was in the Waste, even in Shayol Ghul. The bad luck that had been plaguing the city still continued and was in fact getting worse, a problem that several contingents of citizens had personally appealed to the Amyrlin about. Tensions in the Tower were high.
Setting: Amyrlin's Office: White Tower, Tar Valon
Raemira glances up from her desk, a brow lifting at the two entering her room. "Yes?" She inquires, her voice delicate, yet even.
Morillin spreads her skirts in a curtsy, folding her hands as she straightens. She remains silent, letting Coliena speak.
Coliena steps inside and sweeps into a curtsey. Despite the fact she comes baring better news this time, she still remembers the last time she was in here. "Mother." She glances towards Morillin, then nods, seeing that she'll be the one to speak, "Some maids discovered an oddity in one of the linen closets that is rarely used. My Sister here suspected it may have been a ter'agreal that has been causing all the grave missfortune within the city. She called upon me to take a look at it, seeing as recently ter'angreals have become one of my specialties. I went to look at it, and sure enough, it seems to be a ter'angreal, and most likely the cause of the stressful situations."
Raemira inclines her head to Morillin as she curtsies, turning her eyes, too, toward Coliena. A sense of impatient waiting seems to float from the Amyrlin's presence. "Daughter." Raemira greets Coliena, then falls silent to listen to her words. "What makes you come to that conclusion...?"
Coliena stands a little straighter, launcing into a detailed explaination, "While studing ter'angreal I came across a story which held some interest to me. It was one of a ter'angreal that brought bad luck to an entire village. It was triggered by accident; the people there mistaked one like it as a regular candle stick and pulled out the cude that rests of the top. When the cube was pulled out the ter'angreal became active. Unfortunately at the same time they lost the cube, and the only hope of shutting it off." As with many stories Browns tell she's getting a little off base. She pauses to take in a breath.
Morillin watches Coliena as she speaks, forehead just slightly creased.
Raemira folds her hands upon her desk, her eyes narrowing slightly as she listens. "There is no other way to counter the effects?"
Coliena shakes her head, "No. And once activated the ter'angreal can not be moved. It... sticks itself into the surface, like roots do for a tree. And any channeler that gets near it has a chance of becoming stilled, which makes it fortunate that it was placed somewhere were students and Sisters rarely go."
A dark frown comes upon Raemira's features, her emerald eyes starting to flare just as they had the other night when speaking with Coliena. "I see." Her words come out clipped, "Any idea -how- it got there, and -how- it got activated?"
Morillin eyes her Brown sister, perhaps wondering if Coliena is going to get lectured in front of her. Then she turns her gaze to the Amyrlin, studying her thoughtfully, head tilted to one side.
Coliena shakes her head, "No, Mother. I am afraid not. It would have had to have been placed before the bad luck started, and it was likely placed by someone who knew what it did. It was placed in such a way, out of the way and all, that it was likely not an accident. And I hate to think of the possibility, but it may have been done by someone wanted to cause conflict between the Tower and the city. Which as we can see... unfortunatly.. that it has... in some ways."
Morillin mutters something under her breath, angrily, but too softly to be heard.
Raemira smirks slightly, "Yes, that it has." She's not pleased, not pleased at all. You can see it upon her features, the careful control she has on her anger, unlike the night the Amyrlin scolded Coliena for Jaice's disappearance. "I want this person found, I do not care what it takes for it to happen." Her words come out as a harsh order, her eyes flaring darkly as she speaks it. She leans forward, glancing toawrd both 'sisters' since both are present, "And I want it done as soon as possible." That does not necessarily mean she wants -you- to do it. She just wants it done, and her will to be spread about the Tower.
Morillin inclines her head. "Yes, Mother," she murmurs.
Coliena lowers her head slightly, then adds as an after thought, "There is still shutting it off Mother. Unless this person was foolish enough to leave the cube laying around in the closet... well... There is a chance that they may have it on their person, but it is a small chance. I don't imagine most would be foolish enough to keep a thing such as that."
Morillin says "Could we not fashion something similar to close it?"
Raemira glances to Coliena, then back to Morillin. She plainly asks, "Do you possess the talent to recreate ter'angreal?"
Morillin says blandly, "Not as far as I know, Mother."
Coliena thinks a moment, "There may be other ways. It is obvious there was more than one of these ter'angreal made, seeing as the village in the story that it affected was abandoned over time..." She trails off, shrugging.
"Very well then... somehow I do not think we can create something similar." The Amyrlin deduces. "Furth-" She clamps her mouth shut, her eyes widening at something. She grips her desk, her features turning white for a moment as if having been scared by a ghost. She sits like that for several moments, then the whiteness turns to puzzlement, then the puzzlement to stark realization, "The -child- is in Cairhien!" She exclaims.
Morillin looks puzzled. "Mother?"
Coliena blinks and stays silent, looking confused.
"Jaice..." Raemira answers, her tone oddly curious. "She's in Cairhien." She speaks with a stark certainty... though how can she possibly know that? "Have either of you heard of work on her project?'
Morillin eyes Raemira warily, shifting her shawl on her shoulders. "No, Mother."
Coliena's breath catches. "Jaice..." she whispers softly, looking as if unsure whether to cheer, or cry. Finally she gives her head a shake, "No, Mother. I am afraid that I have not heard..."
Raemira waves her hands about the air about her, "It had to do with weather... and sending messages. I -think- I just received one of those..." Rameira wrinkles her nose a bit. "When I was about to speak I heard her voice whispering within my ear. There was only one other time for that and that's when she started working on it and whisperings could be heard throughout the Tower by mistake." She smirks, "But I swear I just heard her whisper 'safe'... 'Cairhien'... returning." She glances to each of the sisters, a very -serious- expression on her features.
Morillin's eyes narrow slightly as she watches Raemira, but she remains silent. There is a trace of skepticism in her gaze, however.
Coliena nods with a smile, believing, likely because she wants so hard to believe, "In Cairhien, and safe. Much better than I had feared."
Raemira's eyes seem to narrow right back, catching that trace of skepticism. "I want you both to go there." She speaks with certainty, "But not before you set others to work on finding out -who- placed that ter'angreal within the closet." Her eyes flare. She's not about to let up or let others thing she's crazy. "If the child is not there I be proved a very foolish woman, but if she is... and Light help that she is not, she'll be in more danger than just wandering the land by day or night. People are ruthless there with their bloody Daes Dae'mar. I ought to know, I lived there." She smirks. "She'll be skinned alive."
Morillin shifts her shawl once more in an effort to hide her faint frown. "To Cairhien, Mother? Very well. I assume we are to leave immediately?" Coliena blinks and frowns thoughtfully, "I will go, of course. I would like it if I had better experience with Cairhienins... Severan is from there, maybe he can give me a better idea of what to expect then what the books say..." She trails off, talking more to herself than anyone else.
Raemira's eyes turn more directly on Coliena, "You, of all people, will most certainly be going." Perhaps this is some sort of punishment for the brown, "And you had better be certain that if she is, she comes back unharmed." Is that a threatening note within Raemira's voice. She then glances to Morillin, considering her for a moment as she sits back in her chair, "As I said, not before you tell others of my wishes concerning the Ter'angreal. Also spread word that no -channeling- female is to go near it. I will not have people stilled by accident or by ignorance." She pauses her words, considering, "Trelaine had a foretelling about this ter'angreal. As of yet those that I've set to work on its meaning have not discovered it. If you find something by a 'leaning ladder', investigate it. I do not care now trivial it may seem." She narrows her eyes, as if to make her point clear, "And I want you to take Kyra. As a Green she will need to get used to doing field work."
Morillin grimaces openly at talk of a Green accompanying them, but nods. "A leaning ladder, Mother? Of course."
Coliena nods, "Leaning ladder... I will remember." She seems as if she wants to go, adding in a mutter, "Plus there is a grand library in Cairhien, I hear..." She shakes it away and adds in a more formal voice, "I will returne Jaice as safely as humanly possible. If I have to put her safety before my own then I shall."
"Yes... a 'leaning ladder." Raemira responds, smirking as she catches the grimace, "And do try to remember you are -all working for a common goal; to bring Jaice back safely. If you can-" Her words stop short as she hears about the Libarary, "Do -not- forget your duty, -Daughter-" Raemira reminds Coliena already, not even before the trip begins. "If you can find anything about this ladder, and Jaice at the same time, all the better,if not, I want Jaice home as quickly as possible. We will deal with this ter'angreal best as we can now that we know what it does."
Morillin says smoothly, "We will find the girl, Mother. Nothing will distract us from that. If I may ask, which of us will lead? Coliena, I assume."
Coliena tilts her head considering. "Yes Mother. Jaice first, leaning ladder second." She seems deep in thought. She straightens her head slightly at the idea of leading something, but makes no comment.
"You assume right, Morillin. Coliena was the one responsible for letting her disappear, and she will be the one responsible for bringing her back. You are to follow her orders." Raemira makes the pecking order quite clear now. There is no doubt where the new Green fits within it, and ensuring that, Morillin's place.
Morillin inclines her head, eyeing Coliena thoughtfully.
Coliena takes a breath. "Jaice's disappearance was my responsibility, and you are correct Mother that it is also my responsibility to get her back." She sweeps into a deep curtsy, "I will not fail you, Mother." The sound of determination sounds in the tone of her voice.
Raemira nods her head sharply, giving an equally sharp gaze to both sisters sitting before her, "Make certain to let Kyra know she is to pack her things. You both are dismissed. You leave at first light. Also take care of that other matter I've set you to before you leave. Provisions and money will await with your horses."
Morillin gives the Amyrlin a small curtsy, murmuring, "As you command, Mother." Then she turns and glides from the office.
Morillin exits the Amyrlin's Suite.
Coliena nods, "Of course.." She asks as an after thought, "Since none of us have Warders.." It's obvious that the Red doesn't, "Will we have any guards acompaning us?" She blushes a little and gets to the point, "I was wondering if I could ask someone with knowledge of Cairhien to come." More correctly, Severan. She glances over her shoulder as Morillin walks out, and takes a few steps towards the door as well, still facing the Amyrlin.
"You may take two men with you, of your choice." Raemira grants the request, folding her arms before her, "Be certain you make the right choice."
Coliena nods, "Of course, Mother." She adds softly, "Severan is from a minor noble House.. he could help smooth over any problems..." She trails off as she quickly turns and exits, a little more of a blush forming on her cheeks.
Coliena exits the Amyrlin's Suite.
