Characters:
Adelina Tiigril - Queen of Cairhien
Kargan Denar - Lieutenant of the Children of the Light
Phineas Escon Sinnar - Lord Captain Commander of the Children of the Light
Kraellus Monatin - Lord High Inquisitor of the Children of Light
Adelina rides on the back of a gray mare, side saddle of course, head held high. Her hair makes her seem a great deal taller than she is, piling a good seven inches abover her head, the Sun Crown of Cairhien holding it up for the most part in a glitter of yellow and gold. The riders, about twenty men, and two other women, the men all armed with swords, though their hands are placed away from them. The two maids instantly scurry off and grab the Queen's horse, one moving to help her down.
Kargan regards the Queen and the Cairhenin guards with a cool expression as he looks up from his work. He watches silently despite the odd protest from the servants, crossing his arms. Involuntarily, his chin raises as he sees the haughty expression on the Queen's features.
Adelina gets down from the horse without help of the maids, telling them out load to get out of her way so she can get down. She gives her head a shake, brushing a curl that fell out behind her shoulder and looks around. All the men dismount after she does, the two men carrying the banners of House Tiigril and Cairhien stay upon their horses. Adelina's dark eyes fall of Kargan eventually, choosing him of all the Whitecloaks for no reason, "Child of the Light, I am here to see Lord Captain Commander Phinaes."
Kargan draws himself up straight, smoothing down his tabard. With a smooth movement of his body, he bows low to Adelina. "The Light ever shine upon House Tiigril and Cairhien, your Majesty." he says smoothly in a properly respectful tone. "I am Lieutenant Denar, the Lord Captain Commander's residence is this way, your Majesty."
Straightening up, the young whitecloak turns on his heel, ignoring the now forgotten oxen wagon. He leads Adelina's party to the entrance of the central tent of the camp, the main pavillion.
Adelina nods, turning and motioning to the two highest ranking guards to come with her, and the rest to stay with the horses, then she starts to walk after the man, her two maids almost walking on her skirts.
Sidestepping from the entrance to the pavillion, Kargan again bows, gesturing inside. "The most blessed and Anointed of the Light, the Lord Captain Commander Sinnar awaits your Majesty within." The guards at the tent flaps present their polearms, then each draws aside the white canvas, allowing Adelina and her guards to enter.
Adelina enters, inclining her head slightly.
A guard pushes back one of the massive flaps on the pavillion, motioning you to enter, and closing the flap after you enter.
Phineas sits at his writing desk with the Lord High Inqusitor resting nearby, the personal letters from both the Queen and General Asher in his hands. Invitations from numerous Noble Houses of Cairhien lay splashed across his desk.
Kraellus is about to make a reply to Phineas when he is interrupted by someone entering the tent. Turning in his chair to see who has disturbed them, he then rises to his feet with a soft rustle of cloth to face the Queen.
Phineas rises from his own chair at the Queen's entrance. He nod politely, "Your Majesty. Please. Enter." He gestures toward a third chair nearby, "The furnishing is spartan, but it is the best I have to offer."
Adelina enters calmly, head held high despite being as short as she is, hair making her seem at least seven inches taller than she really is, which would still be considered fairly small in most cases. Two maids are nearly on her heels, and two guards behind her, both armed with at least a sword, but their hands are folded behind their backs, away from the hilts. She had opened her mouth to introduce herself, but is noticed and stops, saying instead, "Grace favor you, Lord Captain Commander." Her eyes fall on the other man, not very well voiced in reconizing the rank of children she makes it safe and just gives both a nod, then moves forward, to the chair to sit down.
Kraellus gives Adelina a very small bow, then settles himself in his own chair once more.
Phineas notes the unrecognizing glance and gestures towards Kraellus, "Lord High Inquisitor Kraellus. He is senior in the Hand of Light." Phineas retakes his seat, "I imagine this is in reference to events of recent?"
Adelina looks over the man introduced and keeps a neutral look on her face as she sits down. She smooths her skirts once, then folds her arms in her lap, a dark curl falls against her cheek, a curl which lost it's hold on the trip over here. She makes no move to fix it and merely answers, "It is customary to speak with visiters within our boarders."
Kraellus positions himself so as to watch both Phineas and Adelina, his cool gaze drifting from one to the other.
Phineas nods to Adelina, "A visit of welcoming then. I am honored. I suppose congratulations are in order on your ascension to the Sun Throne." He nods congratulations at the accomplishment
Adelina nods her head slightly, as if in answer to that the yellow gems in the crown catch light and reflect it in a colorful display for a moment, "I thank you for the congradulations, and the same are in order for you as well, for becoming the new Lord Captain Commander."
Phineas says "A rank earned under dark pretenses I am afraid to say." He continues the light, casual banter, "I hope you are not finding the position over-taxing? I do not pay much mind to the stresses of ruling an entire country, but from what I do hear, it can be enormously burdensome." He manages a small, almost imperceptible smile, "I don't suppose it is too far removed from commanding the entire Children of Light.""
Kraellus shifts slightly in his chair with a faint frown.
Adelina smiles slightly herself, "It can be difficult at times, yes. But this has only been my first couple of weeks. Mostly I've been focasing on filling positions within my guard and servents in the Palace, as well as... dealing with a few minor problems. I have had a great deal of help of course, as I am sure you do."
Phineas lifts a brow mildly before reply just as mildly, "As of recent, I have been plagued with more problems than help, but I am solving them as best I can."
Adelina nods her head, "I am sorry to hear that, Lord Captain Commander. Help is always nice to have, expecially when there are a good deal of problems to handle."
Phineas nods, then apparently changing tracks of conversation, he taps the numerous invitations on his desk, "This is my first time in Cairhien, and never before have I been so beset with invitations. Does this happen with every visitor?"
Adelina glances at the invitations, trying to note the colors of the wax seals, and even if she can the sigils themselves, then she gives her head a slightly shake and a chuckle, curl bouncing slightly, "Yes, and no. I guess the right word here would be, it depends. Commoners would not be noticed likely, unless they were very rich merchants, or delagations from a far off land. To people of high rank, or supposed high rank, yes. You would fall into the high ranking group."
Kraellus smirks. "Indeed," he murmurs quietly.
Phineas flicks through the invitations, no few from a Great House or a House close aligned with one, "I have not opened a one, but it appears that none bear your sigil on it." He lifts a brow inquringly
Adelina inclines her head slightly, "I intended on coming out to visit you. I said so in my letter, yes?"
Phineas nods, "And I am truly honored. I do not believe I will answer a one of these." He taps the invitations, "Particuarly so since it is only a custom and I would never have the time to answer even a few."
Kraellus smiles faintly. "Will that not anger the nobles, my Lord?"
Phineas answers the Lord High Inquisitor bluntly, "It may, but seeing as how the Queen herself troubled herself so by riding out to welcome me, I will not demean her visit by answering one."
Kraellus inclines his head. "No, of course not," he murmurs.
Adelina listens thoughtfully, somewhat impressed, "And I thank you for thinking so. I would not wish you to spend your time going to parties and answering hundreds of letters when you could be settling problems that need to be settled."
Phineas nods to Adelina, "Quite right. I am particuarly amenable to solutions to common problems, but perhaps that is a topic for another visit.
Adelina nods, "Perhaps that would be best."
Phineas looks once more at his desk, gaze narrowing, "A missive from General Asher appeared on the heels of your own." He considers the name for a moment, "Asher, it sounds familiar, yet I can not place it."
Adelina inclines her head slightly, eyes curious. Perhaps Linden did not inform her of his letter. "Asher is a fairly minor House in Cairhien." She offers some small knowledge.
Phineas shakes his head, as if to indicate that that can't be where he recognizes the name from, "I rarely follow matters of politics, certainly not those of Cairhienin politics. No, the name tickles my memory for another reason." He finally shakes his head as if to dismiss the search for an answer.
Adelina nods slightly, "Perhaps you shall remember later, yes?"
Phineas nods, "Perhaps.." The comment tapers to silence as he regards you mutely for a moment, "If you don't mind me saying so, you are quite young for a Queen. Much younger than I expected you to be."
Adelina inclines her head slightly, trying to keep her face the same, "I petitioned for the Sun Throne of Cairhien, and the Council of Lords decided I would sit on it." Of course she doesn't say what happened to the other canidates.
Phineas replies bluntly, "Why you? If I may ask? What qualities made you a more superior candidate than the others?"
Adelina nods her head, understanding, "I took over as Head of my House when I was seventeen, my younger brother always says I aged thirty years that day, in my mind at least. I've opened up major trade routes between many countries, and my father's lands, my lands, were a very large producer of grain, until the Aiel War. When the lands became mine I put men back to work on them and produced as much, if more, than they did before the War." She doesn't go into others.
Phineas nods quietly as you explain, then rises, "You will have to forgive me your Majesty, but I am short on time. I hope I am not being rude by ending at such an unusual juncture, but unfortunately I have little choice. I do hope we will have the chance to speak again, particuarly in reference to our mutual problems."
Phineas says "At least allow me to escort you to the edge of the Camp"
Adelina stands up as well, "It is quite alright. I will come visit again shortly and we can speak then..." She trails off, and nods again, "Of course you may escort me."
Phineas nods and leads the way out of the tent, holding open the flap for you
Phineas pulls back one of the flaps, departing back into the camp.
Phineas turns to face you once more and nods politely, "As you may have already discerned, I am not the man my predecessor was. I have different viewpoints on certain matters, although they make me less popular than I would be without them. I hope such a disposition will help in maintaing friendly ties with Cairhien
Adelina smiles a little more than before and nods, "I look forward to further conversation with you, Lord Captain Commander. I am sure we will find much to talk about in the days to come." She nods her head in respect towards you as well.
Phineas says "I bid you good evening your Majesty."
Adelina nods, "Good evening, and may the Light shine on you and protect you, Lord Captain Commander." That title is really a mouthful. With that she mounts her horse and leads her men away.
Phineas offers in parting, "The Light Shine on you." Then turns toward the Camp and dissapears into a mass of white cloaks
