Pre-wedding log. In fact this is the log where Lyren proposes. This log also takes place before Kell's duel with Kargan.
Characters:
Sydnia - Lady of Rhinorth
Lyren - Lord of Tiigril
Kell - Servent of Rhinorth, close friend of Lyren
Lyren smiles brightly, Sydnia's smile warming the chill away as surely as the fire. "Good day to you, Sydnia. I hope I am not interrupting?"
Sydnia folds the book closed and sets it on the side table, rising to greet the young man. Dropping her blanket on her chair, she offers her hands to her friend. "No, you are never interrupting," she says happily. "I am delighted to see you."
Lyren takes the hand in one smooth gesture once he's approached Sydnia, raising it to his lips, and then lowering it once more... He keeps a hold of his friend's delicate hand, though. "I think you spoil me, my lady."
Sydnia laughs softly, her bright eyes searching his. "I enjoy spoiling you, my love," she says softly. "I intend to continue." Her sweet pink lips curl up into a coy smile.
Kell emerges from the Grand Hall.
Lyren is definately in good humour. "Well... I suppose I can let it pass, as long as you allow me to spoil you in return..."
Sydnia stands, her hands in Lyren's, gazing up into his eyes and speaking with him in such a manner that would put anyone into diabetic shock. She hardly notices Kell enter, trained to ignore servants, and she replies softly to Lyren, "Ah, this I can allow."
Kell enters, planing to spend her time off reading a good book, and stops dead. Had to choose now to come and read, didn't she? She almost turns to leave, but stops herself.
The words bring Lyren to smile, and he very nearly leans forward .. then sees Kell in the corner of his eyes. "Oh, Raksha! What fortune brings you here tonight?"
Kell stiffens visably, and mutters under her breath, "Do you have to call me that?" Without waiting for an answer, if she expected one she just shrugs, "I just thought I would read a little, but if I am disturbing you, my Lord, my Lady, I can always leave."
That was not the response Sydnia was expecting. Her bright gaze turns on Kell with intensity, an almost surprised look on her face. She glances briefly at Lyren, looking, in general annoyed.
Ah, that's Lyren for you. Able to annoy everyone, and not even know it. "Raksha.." he goes on, "Do you remember that promise you gave me?"
Kell blinks. To say the least she surprised. She takes a minute before saying anything, "I guess I do, Lyren." She sounds rather unsure though, not knowing where this will lead, and not liking it so far.
Sydnia glances at Lyren, curious and somewhat annoyed. Lyren is hers, she feels, and why is he paying attention to this servant, however useful she was in the past.
Lyren smiles a little more. "Well... You are going to have a chance someday to follow through with it." His eyes return to Sydnia once again.. "I am going to ask Lady Sydnia to marry me.."
Kell stares, hands clinching, knees looking a little unsteady. She says nothing though.
Sydnia glances between Lyren and Kell quickly, trying to understand exactly what is going on. Lyren's words appear to have pleased her some, but she, too, remains silent.
Lyren ahems.. then reaches into the pocket of his jacket to produce a finely wrought bracelet of sorts. "So... My lady... will you be my wife, the bearer of my children?"
Sydnia looks at Lyren, her expression a mix of surprise, annoyance, and love. She gulps, blinking, then nods. "Yes, my lord," she replies with just the slightest quiver in her voice. "It will be the highest honor of my life." She does sound sincere, and somewhat shocked.
Kell watches with a odd look in her eyes. She mutters to herself, "People die... Beauty... changes... And... shall... be..." She gives a stiff nod, then bows and asks, "Would my Lord or Lady like a drink?"
Lyren would smile in relief, were he worried about what the answer would have been. Well, that's not true.. there is a faint flicker of relief. He solemnly clasps the bracelet around Sydnia's wrist. "And it will be mine as well, my lady." Waiting a quiet number of seconds.. he at last turns his eyes back to Kell. "Please, Raksha... I certainly would."
Sydnia nods to Kell, the tension of the moment almost painful. She looks back to Lyren and takes a half-step towards him, smiling softly, still a little shocked.
Kell straightens, but does not look back at Lyren as she turns and leaves. In fact she doesn't seem to be looking at anything. Though despite the obvious tension she is not in a hurry to leave.
Kell walks into the Great Hall.
As Kell steps out, Lyren turns his full attention on his now future wife. "I believe this should finish the proposal.." he says quietly, eyes ablaze, just before he leans forward to kiss her.
Sydnia smiles, relaxing slightly as Kell leaves. She tiptoes up to kiss her future husband, her other hand reaching up to lie along his face gently, her skin soft against his.
Lyren is, as usual, unable to keep the kiss prim and proper.. especially now. He forgets, for the moment, where they are as he puts his arm around Sydnia's waste and pursues a deeper kiss, and closer embrace.
Sydnia is willing to let him have anything he wants, provided her is hers and Kell is forgotten. As he pulls her closer, she kisses him more deeply, with a gentle passion, focusing now completely on him.
And she is his, or so he hopes, the kiss taking on that familiar passion Lyren's come to anticipate. Finally, though, he parts his lips for a moment.. "I would thank you, my lady... your acceptance of the proposal was as a great weight lifted from my shoudlers."
Sydnia smiles at Lyren adoringly, her sweet pink lips slightly parted. "My lord, I am delighted that I had the privelege of accepting it." Her bright blue eyes seach his.
Lyren smiles impishly. "My lady... I do recal asking you to wait until I had a chance to ask.. you knew it had to be coming."
Kell emerges from the Grand Hall.
Standing close in Lyren's arms, Sydnia smiles up at him. "I knew it was coming, and yet, my heart ached with anticipation, and fear.:
Kell enters silently, feet making no noise. She lays the two drinks down on a table near the couple, never once looking at them, and then turns to leave, after a customary bow.
Lyren blinks once in surprise. "Fear, my lady? I hope, then, that that fear has subsided.."
Sydnia nods slightly. "The fear is gone... mostly. I was terrified that you might change your mind. Truly terrified."
Lyren's smile softens. "Well, you need not worry about that now, Sydnia." Blink. Are those drinks on the table? He looks.. aha! "Raksha... you will be at the wedding, yes?"
Kell was almost out the door, and stops mis-step, stiffening. She takes a long time to turn around. Her eyes are blank, as is her face, though her skin is paler than normal, if that is possible. She nods slowly, speaking in an absent, lazy voice, "If my Lady wishes me to be."
Sydnia stiffens herself, even as Lyren holds her. "That will be arranged later, yes," she says, almost cruelly, a certain stiffness to her voice that is not there when she speaks to Lyren.
Lyren will likely never be able to hear that note in Sydnia's voice. "You are one of the few people I wish to be there most of all, Raksha..
Kell stands there for a minute, then without a word turns around and walks out of the Library.
