Location:The Sun Palace: Cairhien
Summary:An informal High Court session is called, inviting various noble personages, dignitaries, and commoners to come hear the Savior Ambassadors speak about what opportunities they cuold offer Cairhien if alliances are formed.

Entrance Hall: Sun Palace, Cairhien

The Entrance hall is a large chamber, with its high, domed ceiling, centering in something that could be called a very large hallway, leading to the Great hall. The side walls are decorated with shiny, ancient and empty armors standing guard, with one colorful dressed guardsman standing between each pair of two. Tapestries featuring the rising sun of Cairhien and portraits of late rulers hang above the armors and the guardsmen.

The hall is moderately warm at this time of the year, as the fresh spring winds fill it from the floor all the way up to the domed ceiling. The Entrance hall bustles with morning activity. Palace servants and staff hurries across the hall in their early chores, and nobles can be seen heading down the stairs, ready for the morning-meal.

To one side is a ramp leading up to the North Tower, to the other you see the massive stairway leading up to the Sun Tower. Behind you the open Palace gates allow you to walk back out to the courtyard. A narrow, not very visible staircase between the exits to the Sun Tower and the North Tower takes you to the servant's Hall..

Elbert, Eleini, Emrys, Alona, Trivan, Narth, Leah, Aravin, Lyssa

Aravin nods. "Of course. But we haven't much time, I think." Gesturing towards the door, he moves to head towards the grand hall.

Trivan bows to those near and quietly, as is his way in such gatherings, makes his way inside muttering something to Emrys about needing to get in there berore all the good places are taken.

The small Brown turns to look at Eleini before Alona says to the Green slightly curtly,"Keep your eyes open sister and your mouth closed. /I/ speak for our delgation." The Brown wasn't appointed opposite Cavaeya for no reason. She manages to match the old blue in stubbornness at the moment."Let me know if you see anyone about to try /anything/."

Standing head and shoulders above most of the people there, it's not hard to spot Emrys as he makes his way inside, giving Trivan precedence as he's surely more familiar around here. He hovers near Alona protectively, eyes alert.

If Eleini has any sort of reaction to Alona's statement, it is not visible. She inclines her head to Alona, slightly, as she continueson her way.

Maizran arrives through the gilded doors from the Grand Hall.

Narth watches about as his Lord Captain talks to various nobles standing in the hallway

Courtiers, nobles, commoners, and delegates a like all move into the Entrance Hall. Several of them apparently are already on their way into the Grand Hall, eagering waiting to see what this night will bring.

Several Ladies-in-Waiting, closest to the Queen, precede her Majesty down the stairs, clearing the way for those who've yet to enter into the grand hall. Following the ladies are several of the Queen's own guard, the elite of the Palace. In the midst of a ring of five honor guard is Queen Adeline su Tiigril Ria, Defender of the Dragonwall, High Seat of Tiigril.

The Andoran Duke enters the Entrance hall with his personal advisor at his arm. Maizran's eyes casuall look across those gathered, though he seems to show little concern for the affair this evening. And he seems perfectly at ease to enter escorting his advisor, even though gossip has him intended for Lady Celise. Stroking Melina's hand with his other hand briefly, he then leads them further into the room.

Emrys' eyes are drawn to the group descending the stairs, and he manages a quick, yet polite bow before hurrying inside after the rest.

Grand Hall: Sun Palace, Cairhien

The Grand Hall is magnificent. Tall marble columns in a darkly blue shades reach up all the way to the high, domed ceiling. The floor is also of blue, polished marble, and a red carpet embroidered with gilded lines reaches from the entrance gates all the way up the dais, then ends at the foot of the Sun throne. At the end of the hall, the Sun throne itself stands centered atop a wide dais of deep blue marble. The great heavy armed chair glitters with gild and golden silk. Somehow its lines are straight and plain, with the wavy-rayed Rising Sun above it.

The room is moderately warm at this time of the year, in a comfortable way. Many people heads in the direction of the Dining Hall, to have their breakfast served. Others stands in small pairs of two or three in casual conversation.

Between the columns to one side you can see an entrance to the Dining Hall, and the gilded doors facing the Sun Throne lead you back to the Entrance Hall.

Maizran, Elbert, Leah, Trivan, Emrys, Melina, Alona, Narth, Eleini, Lyssa, Aravin

Trivan moves not with the crowd but over toward the wall where he finds a seat that may not be a spprestegious as some of the others, but there is less likelyhod of taller people sitting in front of him and blocking his view. In deference to the occasion, he remains silent. A bow is offered in the direction of the Queen and her group though they may be too distant to really be aware of it, propriety is honored.

Leah moves in with the others, narrowing the gap and approaching Adelina. She glances back toward Lyssa, her sister, then moves further distant as the group moves through the room.

Shrill horns sound the arrival of the Queen, horns that were not sounded as she came down the stairs. Enmass, many of the nobles, dignitaries, and commoners bow or curtsey where appropriate. As before the Ladies-in-Waiting precede the Queen, taking up a position around the Sun Throne. The various guards escort the Queen about half way into the room, and then break off to strategic points around the area.

Gaylwin arrives through the guilded doors leading to the Entrance Hall.

Lyssa stays with Aravin, following him toward seats. She curtseys at the sound of the horns, then waits, her hand slipping into her pocket where a book-shaped lump rests.

Walking in beside Lyssa, Aravin takes an inconspicuous places farther to the back of the hall. He doesn't anticipate needing to be any closer.

Elbert stops for a moment at the doorway, stepping beside it and leaning one shoulder against the wall while he lets his glance slide around the gathering. There is a smile onhis lips and his eyes, alert, betray no unease. The size of the gathering seems to give him a few moments deep thought.

Maizran finds a location that would be more appropriate for the foreign nobility. Turning to Melina briefly, he shrugs a shoulder, before setting his gaze on the Queen and acknowledging her with the appropriate bow.

Proudly, almost, Melina walks in with Maizran, dangled lightly off of one of his arms. A warm smile turns up the corner of her lips. She leans in and murmurs a few words for Maizran's ears only, then goes back to watching her surroundings.

Narth stands at attention behind the Lord Captain of the Fourth Legion of the Children of the Light (ooc: the local WC group everyone loves to hate). The Lord Captain himself gives the briefest of bows, almost just a nod, to the Queen, his grudging show of respect to the ruler of the nation that his Legion is stationed at.

Emrys follows Alona where she chooses to take a seat, but remains standing himself, much to the anger of those stationed behind him, having to move sideways to see anything past the large man. It doesn't seem to faze him the least, calmly running his eyes over the assembled crowd.

Once within the room, the Queen takes her proper place by the Sun Throne. She does not yet take a seat, standing to better observe those who've come. Her eyes narrow ever so slightly as she spies a few of the occupants, then easily return to normal. She waits until some of the residents for the evening stop being restless.

Melina walks to stand among the columns.

Melina nods in response to Maizran's shrug and direction, easily taking his lead as he guides her to a seat.

Maizran glides into the seat, shifting it on an angle so that he could better observe the Queen. He finally releases Melina's hand, the pleasantries seem to continue with quiet whispers.

Leah moves to stand beside Adelina. Her stance is one that can catch the least signal or instruction rom the queen and is positioned where anyone wishig to approach the queen closely must pass through her first. Other Ladies in Attendance take up similar position, quietly, silently, almost a part of the furnishings. Leah is out of conversational range of most present.

Eleini, in silence, seeks out her position with the other Aes Sedai of the delegation sent from Tar Valon. Her gaze flicks over the room, observing the various notable personnages in attendance.

After everyone is seated, Adelina gives a small nod of her head, signally the start of the evenings events. A small man moves forward, holding a sheaf of papers, to address the court. "Her Majesty wishes welcome to all, and for all to take a seat. We will begin the proceedings anon. Those who wish to speak, should rise and wait to be called upon to have the floor, those who disrupt the proceeding may find themselves removed from this open session." With that said, he steps back into his place amongst the others near the front of the room.

Elbert silently waits for a few moments then strides through the room and toward the front. Seating there seeming to be filled, he brings a chair from near the entry with him. This is done just before the Announcement regarding the proceedings is done.

Gaylwin slips in quickly and quietly just as the High council is beginning. She quickly scans the crowd of those gathered and spotting her brother makes her way over to join him. "Hello brother " she whispers as she takes a seat beside him.

Trivan gives his sister a nod and gestures for her to quiet up and listen to the queen.

The delicate raising of the Queen's hand signals that she's about to speak. Again her eyes narrow every so slightly as she looks about the room. "Citizens, friends, and visitors, We welcome you to Cairhien, and to this session of informal court. Many months ago, we were sent a missive that the Savior he would like send represenatives of his own as a means to forge forth in peace, and that request was approved." She pauses her words, carefully looking around, making a grandoise motion of her hand. "Tonight, We open the floor to those citizens and representatives of Cairhien and her neighborning allies to speak with Ambassador Elbert," glancing off to the side, it might look as though she were expecting one other man to be present for this evening, the corners of her lips turning into a slight frown only for a few brief moments. "And We may begin to lay down the foundation this even on negotations between our two great nations."

Narth scowls at the mention of the Savior, although the man he guards makes no outward show of his feelings.

Elbert bows slightly from his seat as his name is mentioned. One hand goes up to stroke along his beard in a characteristic gesture. He remains silent though his glance roves enough to see what the reactions of others are to what has been spoken by the queen.

Aravin listens attentively, all the more so because he is further away than many, and observes as best he can. He glances about the room, finding some familiar faces and others not, but mostly focusing his attention on the Queen and the ambassador

There are rustles and stirrings within the room as the Queen makes her announcement. Some regard the little man who gave the order of protocal for the night, glaring at him. No fun in making disruptions, particularly when it could get them kicked out of a session that would determine, in part, Cairhien's fate.

"First, We will give the floor to Ambassador Elbert, so that he may convey to you the Savior's thoughts and wishes with his interaction concerning Cairhien." Lightly, the Queen nods her head to Elbert, indicating that he now holds the floor.

Maizran leans back on his chair, seemingly less impressed by this then he was by the initial decore of the room. Still, his attention fixes on Elbert.

Melina leans in close to the Lord Demmar, an interested look showing upon her features as she regards Elbert and the Queen. She mutters to Maizran, "This should... my Lord.... him... though he... though... suppose... such."

Elbert stands and steps forward, turning so he can face the crowd. He does not smile but his expression is pleasant enough to be aimed at trying to reassure. His glance seeks out a few mamiliar faces, Leah, Aravin, Trivan, Gaylwin and a few others earn a bit of a smile, a smile that widens as his glance seks out a few of the others. He clears his throat and first speaks to the Queen. "My thanks, your Majesty, for this opportunity. I told you I would let you know when I had word from the south, and today." He pulls a folded sheet of velus forth from his pocket and displays it, this arrived. If you would permit me." He clears his throat and begins to open the letter, clearly planning to read at least some of it to the others.

Elbert 's eyes scan the missive and he leans over toward Leah and the Queen. "Rotten at scribing his letters, yes? Takes some few moments to pick out the words, ahhh, yes." He straightens then reads. "Please offer my most sincere respects to the Queen, her court, and the citizens of Cairhien. Reassure them that I have no designs on taking Cairhien. I wish only to ensure that the members of Cairhien are assured that the arrival of you two, Ambassador Elbert and Bissho, remain a mission of peace, and that I truely desire nothing but an alliance with the fair city of the Sun Throne. "

Leah gives a light sniff as she looks over the writing and then looks toward the queen as if to say "I've seen worse." She remains silent.

At Elbert's words, Adelina dips her head in a nod of ascension, allowing the man to continue with his proceedings.

Celise arrives through the guilded doors leading to the Entrance Hall.

Listening to the words that Elbert reads, the Queen's brow lifts silently. Still she stands before all within her court, as various members of the community sit throughout the room. In the back there is a small amount of rustling as a few people start talking over the information just relayed."

Maizran is sitting down at one of the tables with Melina at his side. As they whisper a few more comments to eachother, Maizran's eyebrow raises almost in a disbelieving manor as Elbert makes a statement of the Savior's intentions.

Aravin listens carefully, with a thoughtful expression as Elbert states the Savior's assurances that he does not want Cairhien. The first time he has done so, to Aravin's knowledge. He waits to hear what comes next.

Elbert watches the reactions for a moment, trying to read who is skeptical, who is neutral, and those tho seem to accept the words sent to them in the Savior's own hand. He seems to treat the paper on which they are penned with some reverence. He no longer reads but speaks for himself "Now that you have heard from the Savior himself what his purpose here is, it is time to move past apprehensions and forge a bond between the two of us, yes? With the uniting of Tear and Illian, there is a vast potential for trade, both as a market for your goods and as a supplier of others."

Celise slips into the Hall, twin spots of rose upon her cheeks. Her thin braids are decorated with beads and a few polished stones, which rustle as she moves. Across her lower face hangs a silvery veil, nearly transparent against her skin. Citing Maizran, she promptly makes her way towards the man who has been so captivated with her beauty that he continually presents her with gifts.

The hall grows quiet once more as Elbert mentions Illian and Tear, and the recent conquests. His words make the rumor truth. Some gasp in startlement, while others speak nothing at all.

Lyssa presses her lips together slightly, but after a moment she resumes her neutral listening stance.

Gaylwin murmurs at her brother. shaking her head and frowning. She adjusts her position in her chair fixing the draping of her skirt and continues to listen

There is a slight hardening of Adelina's eyes as she continues to listen to Elberts words. Her hands clench together, though not so tight that the knuckles whiten. The Queen listens attentatively to the Ambassador's man, allowing him to have his word. After a few moments, she speaks up, her voice ringing out enough for all to hear clearly, "And, just what sort of trade does the Savior mean to offer Cairhien, with his newest conquests?" She makes no bones at her unhappiness this information provides.

The Lord Captain, sitting in his chair, adjusts and crosses his arms, listening quietly to the ambassador, waiting to hear what lies may come up in response of the queen's question.

Elbert says "Ladies, Lords, Queen Adelina, Good people of Cairhien, you have at your fingertips access to the resources of sea trade, the fine seafolk porcelains, silks from the east to carress the skin and delight a woman's soul, seafood to titilate the most jaded palate and vary your diet, leathers that are finely cured and preserved, not like some of those mouldering raw leathers near rotting before they arrive here, and of course, oil, yes, oil is available for trade, oil for cooking, oil for your lamps, oil to fuel your braziers to cook, and oil to take away that winter chill under which you have suffered the past two seasons," With that, the man pauses, letting minds examine the temptations dangled before them."

Maizran doesn't notice Celise's entrance, though he continues to quietly whisper comments to Melina. He is paying attention to the words between the Queen and Ambassador, however, oddly curious.

Elbert says "And then there is food. With the Aiel war still lingering in effects in your countryside, would it not be a boon to have access to grains from the south? Furs, fine rugs, textiles, All of you know what is available and what we are now in a position to offer."

Melina leans in close to Maizran, not at all aware of Celise's appearnance. There are, afterall, many faces within the crowd. She mutters to Maizran, "Odd,... the first... that he's... court... such a manor.... I... what the man... to with... these... is... could use... of... Tear offers. Farmers... the... War... back to... as..."

Narth just shakes his head at the unspoken threats.

Gaylwin snorts from her chair and leans over towards her brother with her comments, "And didn't we have all this trade, all this food BEFORE the savior and his men cut off the trade routes." Oops perhaps that was alittle too loud.

China blue eyes are blank, but Celise's gaze flickers between the Savior's man, and Adelina, concern painted across her face. Wasn't that just like a man, to cause a woman to worry. As for Maizran and Melina, she barely notices them in all their ignorance of her entrance. Under the veil, her lower lip slips between her teeth.

No flicker of thought or emotion passes over the Queen's face, rather keeping it thinly veiled with a mask of indifference. "What you speak, Ambassador, is true all. We are in need of staple foods and grains, as We have been these past many years. But, as far as trade of other products and items, there surely is a price, even with Cairhien being one of the major trade centers of the area."

Maizran's lips lift up to almost a smile of amusement, though the expression fades quickly. The foreign noble certainly is as interested as one of Cairhienin blood at this interaction. He mutters to Melina, "... offers... for a... that would... All this... Cairhien before..." he notes, and then leans back on the chair to gaze across for the reactions of other nobles.

Elbert like a good poker player, he does not show all his cards at one time. Quietly he waits esponses and he does not insult this illustrious gathering with vane pontifications and meanderings about the way war disrupts any economy and one simply puts it behind them and moves on as has been done since man waged war. As the Queen speaks he turns toward her and nods. "Of course, your Majesty. One does not 'give ' goods away. There is always a price. He simply wishes the same opportunity he grants to you be given to him. He wants an equal advantage in markets and trade.

Alona merely sits in her seat watching the ambassador with cold emerald eyes.

There are moments when it looks as though Adelina seriously considers the offers made available, and times when there is doubt and skepticism upon her features. "Certainly offers to consider and certainly things of interest to all within Cairhien, I'm sure. And that is all you say he wants, equal trading rights." She watches Elbert now, her attention solely on him.

Celise listens to the interactions with interest. Her eyes flicker aroun the room, at times curving at the sight of one Aes Sedai or another. They were all really so interesting, so confident and eloquent and such. She seems pleasently composed, although concern still present on her features as she gazes at Adelina, giving her a slight smile in the way of support.

Someone in the background coughs and stands, waiting to be recognized as earlier indicated. He glares at those around him attempting to get him to sit back down. They /were/ offered the opportunity to speak on their own behalf, afterall. He looks to be a farmer, by his manner of dress.

Melina silently nods her head in response to Maizran's words, then allows he gaze to trovel about the room. It stops and pauses on Celise, just now noticing the woman arrive. Almost instantly, her grip on Maizran's arm tightens, but not so much as to cause the Lord, her escort, any harm. She mutters to Maizran, "... seems... has... the hall... her presence, and... she is..."

The small man who started the proceedings nods to the farming, now giving him the floor to ask his question. Once given the floor, the farmer steps forward a bit, bellowing loud enough for others to hear. "An what if we don't want the goods and services offered by the Savior?" Someone had to say it, of course.

Elbert says "Trade and the initiantion of international alliances that go hand in hand with trade it are nothig at which to scoff. The offer is generous on his behalf. " The copy of the letter which pertains to relations with the Cairhiens is offered to the Queen so she can see with her own eyes. His words in all that he has said have been most sincere, candid."

The man speaks up, counter arguing that point. "A generous offer perhaps, but its been seen in the past that once he sets his sights on something, he doesn't stop until he gets it. What if, just say, what if he decides, in the long run, that he that he wishes to not stop at trading rights, or at inserting new programs, or keeping peaceful measures. What if, say, he sets his sights on Cairhien, like he did Tear and Illian? Whats to stop him from doing so, now that he's got the means to do so?" Concerns, all, that are perhaps seen on some of the many faces within teh room.

Alona rises slowly from her seat and looks at Elbert with emerald eyes slightly cooler but waits to be acknowledged before she speaks.

Aravin continues to listen, and sharp eyes hint at the jumble of thoughts and ideas going through his head. He has something to say, but not to the entire hall, it seems, and he leans over to speak quietly with Lyssa, who sits beside him. He mutters to Lyssa, "... precedent,... the... to... and condone the... if she isn't... the..." Spoken a bit forebodingly, perhaps.

Lyssa gives Aravin a quick look, opening her mouth to reply but then she glances at Leah and closes her mouth again. She only nods slightly in response to Aravin's words.

Elbert considers the question and simply responds. "He has mentioned nothing of the sort. You heard his very words read to you. There could be many what-if's. We live with them every day. What if the White Cloaks decided they wanted the city, or the Tower wished more influence here, There are uncertainties, yes, but thus is life. And I sincerely seek to reassure you and to calm your fears. All I can do is refer you to what he, himself ahs said in the missive to you."

Leah continues to stand, her eyes sweeping the gathering and lingering at those she knows before continuing on to the ambassador. Her expression is somewhat taut.

The Lord Captain of the local White Cloak legion raises an eyebrow at that, tho remaining silent for the moment, waiting for the man to finish.

The farmer snorts at the words Elbert speaks, his own questions not entirely answered to his satisfaction. But, at the direction of the small man giving and taking the floor, he retakes his seat. In turn, the small man looks to Alona, who stood and indicated she wished to say something. He nods his head, indicating she is now next to speak.

With a calm voice Alona says,"Ambassador, I am Alona Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah. I have been in Cairhien sometime now and prior to my entering my name into the Novice Book. What /isn't/ said is often /far/ more dangerous than what /is/ said. The good farmer has very good reason for worrying about his lands being his. The Saviour as you call him has already shown that he desires land. Neither the White Cloaks nor the White Tower have moved against Cairhien nor any other nation. However, the Saviour moved against Tear /and/ Illian. How can any Cairhien say that they are sure of the safety of their lands and way of life? Do you expect your little speach to be enough? For I am sure the good master over there finds it lacking and I have a feeling others do as well." The small brown pauses for a moment before she continues,"What price will truly be paid for accepting you 'Saviour's' proposal?" Each time she says the word Saviour it is filled with almost like the word turned on her tongue.

In the background, the Queen merely watches and observes, listening to the citizens of the court speak their mind and have their say. When the Aes Sedai speaks out a protest with regard to information on the side of the commoner, she stands up a little more, regarding Alona with a bit of curiousity. Never before has she encountered such at thing; not in her lifetime, and not even by her own Aes Sedai Advisor.

Elbert considers those words and then smiles. "You labor under the smae mis information of many. Those who are under the rule of the Savior are happier and more content than under their old rulers. Else he would have been disposed and people rise up against him long vefore this. He has liberated people from the yoke of punative taxation and unfair tarrifs keeping the poor farmer from earning a decent family for he and himself. He treats them as worthy individuals and with respect and halps them defend what is theirs. As for the nobles, Those who were breaking the backs of their people for the sake of riches they gambled and squandered away may not be happy, but the reasonable amid them, of which I am one, Sedai, are content and convinced things are for the better. You speak eloquently, far more than my meager wording can manage. All I have is sincerity and my belief in what is said by him. I was offering no insult but trying to compare him to those who might have the ability yet choose not to act against. Bear in mind whne you evaluate, He moved against some, but was coming to assist and aid others who asked his help.

Celise watches Adelina, turning her head slightly to the Aes Sedai. Her eyes are lidded with boredom, unfortunately, as she dips her head and whispers to the lordling to her left. Murmuring quietly, the two look over to the Queen at about the same time, indicating her as the subject of the conversation.

Lyssa looks skeptical for a moment, She mutters to Aravin, "... believe... I... talk..."

Elberts talk of 'back breaking' and 'tarrifs' and 'liberating' seem to annoy the Queen at least slightly, her eyes hardening once more as she regards the Ambassador. All of this she lets linger on her usually docile features, only letting it go after one of her aids approaches and whispers something in her ear. She murmurs a quiet reply back then turns back to the proceedings, allowing her gaze to filter out over the crowd. Her eyes stop on some of the notables; Lady Gaylwin and Lord Trivan of Rhinorth, Lady Leah and Lady Lyssa of her own house, Lord Maizran and his advisor of Andor, a Lord Captain and his men, and last, but not least, Lady Celise, who's gaze she does return. The Taraboner noble receives something of a warm smile, perhaps sharing a secret or two with her in those few moments time. If not, better to let others keep guessing.

The small man nods his head, looking to the Lord Captain who's taken a step forward. He indicates that the Child of the Light now has the floor.

Aravin actually smiles slightly at the words from Lyssa. He mutters to Lyssa, "Aren't such... the... not... the Queen... do... by... the insult..."

Emerald eyes lock onto Elbert but Alona holds her tongue to allow the 'Child of the Light' to speak. She'll have more to say no doubt but she waits silently.

After some several moments of watching Celise's back, Melina's small panic attack subsides. So, she's not here to claim Maizran tonight afterall. Almost possessively, the young Advisor scoots closer to the Andoran lord; or was that protectively? Making certain she keeps herself between he and the other Lady.

Lyssa nods again in response to Aravin's words, murmuring, "I concur."

Leah lets her glance rest on her sister and the man at her side for a long moment, then glances away, continuing to stand uncompaliningly while this continues. Such is part of her purpose, the other ladies in waiting fare no better and none show the least desire to be anywhere but whee they are.

Being given his chance, the Lord Captain rises up from his seat where he was resting in relative comfort amused at the speech from the Ambassador. Taking his cape under his arm and holding it up off the ground he moves forward and takes a position in the center of the room between the Queen and the viewing audience, "Thank you, your Magisty, for having us here tonight. And thank you to the people of Cairhien for showing my men how wonderful a land Cairhien really is. As many of you know, my men and I arrived here and at the kindness of your queen were given a small patch of land to camp. We agreed to follow your laws and customs. We have lived in peace and harmony with you and your people and as much as this man says, we know that the inhabitants of Cairhien are a Light Loving people deserving of his assistance. But I must reiterate what the Ambassador here has told you and what I know as a Lord Captain of the Children of Light as truths of what his Savior has performed in other lands. You may see relative peace and such for now while he lives here, but my brothers in arms in other lands have seen men in the employ of the savior attack and kill nobles and royalty of other countries. And look yourself here, even now your own nobles are attacked. I must give the example of the Lady Leah here who was attacked in front of this very palace by men payed by the savior. What would this man do if given the chance? Would your gracious Magesty be safe should you allow this man, this Savior near to your heart? I think not my lady. I can only give advice as a visitor to this fair land, but you would be in grave danger should you let him near you. If necessary, and if this man allows any armies close to your fair country I would call to defend it with my own Legion to save it for the Light. Thank you for this time."

Elbert gives the White Cloak leader serious consideration. He speaks in an indignant tone. "You are mistaken. No such attack occured at the hands of myself or at my instigantion. Seek otherwhere to lay blame for such an attempt. We are merely convenient scapegoats, and such actions rather conveniently placed to rouse people against peaceable representatives of the Savior. As for your other claims. Sir, it was war, and battle, lives spared when possible and lose, mourned when not."

At the Lord Captain's words, Adelina looks to the man in the snowy white uniform. "Your words and wisdom are taken under advice, Lord Captain, and appreciated. We hold a great many concerns for Cairhien, and We are not ready to sit down and bargain just yet. If We should decide to do so, We will consider carefully all that has been brought to us this night, including the concerns of the Children, the people, and the Aes Sedai. Our council We will hear from Our advisors, and later We will make our decision. But, it is always good to listen what is offered to Us, yes?" She uses the royal 'We', speaking for all of Cairhien as is customary at such times. She glances back to Elbert as he moves to speak once more, giving him a thoughtful, considering look. Little time has she had to get to knwo either of the Savior's men, though there are those within her courts that she is likely to confer with; those planted and with time to discover the weaknesses, relations, and other tidbits about these men representating the Savior.

The Lord Captain aahhs as he sits down "Then you deny that your Savior's men assassinated the nobility and royalty of Altara, Mr. Ambassador?"

Leah flinches lightly and one hand rises as if to go to her chest but drops before the gesture is completed. Her gaze seeks out Narth and she frowns slightly yet still remains silent.

Several moments go by, but eventually the daydreaming Celise turns her attention away from poor Adelina, known to be her close friend, and as rumor would have it, confidant as well. And she turns her attention to no other than the pair of Maizran and Melina. Her smile widens slightly, fixing her attention on the other, less significant woman with a focus she has shown so far tonight only for Adelina. She turns her gaze pointedly to Maizran, a thinly plucked eyebrow raises to his advisor. As if saying 'you think bringing you as his companion changes anything?'. She doesn't seem threatened at all, if anything she only grows more relaxed and apparently confident. Were she of a lower station, then perhaps problems with another woman would be settled in a more physical manner, but that would not befit the lady Celise. Rumors of a struggle for Maizran's affections might not be entirely offbase as it seems, although many have heard that a union of Maizran and Celise is wise for social and political reasons. Unfortunately, the apparent benefits for choosing the other woman are not so...numerous. And in the city where the Great Game was honed, it was rare that love won out against money .

Aravin suddenly becomes more interested in the proceedings. Certain comments draw his attention especially. His glance looks not the queen, but instead to her side, where Leah stands.

Elbert disdains replying to the continued questioning. Seems he thinks he has already answered the question to the best of his ability and the expression grows just faintly taut as if indicating some offense was taken however politely masked it might be.

The small man allows his gaze to travel throughout the room, looking for others who might be interested in asking questions of Ambassador Elbert.

Alona steps forward again and awaits acklowedgement.

Spying Alona, the small man nods his head to the Aes Sedai, indicating she may have the floor once more.

"Ambassador, you have denied that /you/ ordered the assasination of Lady Leah but you didn't deny that the Saviour ordered her assasination. Also, I do have to agree with the Lord Captain on many things. One of which is that given the Saviour's attitude towards the Nobility of Altar, I believe that Her Majesty is justified in not trusting him. Not to mention the other Nobility of Cairhien. However, I wonder why the Saviour pushes so hard for this particuliar treaty. Would you care to enlighten us Ambassador?" Alona's voice is cool as she speaks.

Lyssa blinks and frowns at the Ambassador as an assassination attempt on her sister is mentioned. THe frown comes suspiciously close to a full out glare.

Honey and sugar get better results than vinegar. Rather than inciting her own opinions on the matter, with plenty of opportunity to do that later, Adelina simply continues to listen. A dark, paltry brow lifts at Adelina's words; particularly when her own opinions are being spoken for her, rather than by herself. Any Queen, or King, in their right mind would be wary of such a thing, common sense would only speak of that. Finally, after a moment of thought, Adeina speaks up. "The Cairhien Guard could not conclusively identify whether or not the men who attacked my cousin, Lady Ostlyn, were of the Savior's people. That they were the garb and garements of the men is not enough conclusive proof to say that the Savior was indeed the man responsibile. Those impersonating his men could have indeed been ones responsible for the indicent, casting blame elsewhere."

That they wore the garbs.

Elbert gives an exaggerated sigh. "The Savior does not even know who the Lady Leah is so why would one lone woman be of concern to him." With a resigned drawl he intones. "No, he did not order her or any orther assassination attempts in Cairhien. They looked like commoner of Cairhien, they spoke with the accents of Cairhien, they dressed like Cairhien except for replicas of that ...badge the Queen had made for we two Ambassadors and Lady Leah had delivered to us. Not even good copies I am told by those I asked." The words are sincerely indignant. As for what he has to gain, is it not clear? Legitimacy, to have the country of Cairhien acknowledge him and to negotiate with him in his own right lends him status, It is that that draws hm to here, to be recognized as ruler and his government treated as any other would be. The first to do so, the leader amid countries, ones who are known for their care and for their politicle aucmen, who are strong, yes." the flow of words ends almost abruptly and the Ambassador takes a deep calming breath.

Alona shakes her head slightly but sits down. She decides not to say anything else at this time.

There is almost, just almost, a note of challenge within Melina's eyes as she regards Celise, but it fades after a fashion. Yet, still, she does not move from Maizran's side, and stays close to the Lord in the position she's taken up for herself. There's almost a grim determination there, as though she'll accept any fate that life has to deal her; but this. Instead of watching Celise, she very abruptly turns her attention to the proceedings, listening to Alona and Elbert as they give their little speeches and ask their questions. The Queen and her reactions once more become a point of interest over Celise.

Leah shifts slightly, skirts whispering as weight rocks from one foot to the toerh. She studies the others yet is silent. It is with reluctance she nods to indicate the ambassador's words regarding the attackers were true.

The small man once again looks around the room, seeing if anyone else has anything they wish to add or question on the matter.

Finding that no one else has questions, he looks to Adelina, looking for some sign of approval. Receiving a nod, he baps his staff on the floor once more. "The proceedings of the High Court are now closed. The Queen will meet with her advisors and consider the information passed before her. Once a decision has been reached, a formal, closed session of court may be called." He baps his staff once, in a ceremonious manner, then breaks away, waiting for Adelina to descend from the dais that holds the Sun Throne and to leave the Grand Hall.

Elbert turns slightly and offers a deep respectful bow to the Queen, remaining silent past a murmured. "My thanks for permitting me this time here to speak with you and your people, your Majesty.

Descending the stair, the Queen pauses at the bottom when Elbert speaks with her. She nods her head regally, offering Elbert the faintest of smiles; not exactly friendly, but not unfriendly either - neutral, almost. "It was a pleasure. I look forward to hearing more that you and your Ambassador have to say and offer."

Once the formal announcement of the Court's close has been made and the Queen rises to leave, Eleini Sedai rises as well, hands clasped lightly before her. As if anticipating her need, one of her Gaidin steps forward and bends his ear down. She murmurs something quietly to him and he, giving a small nod, withdraws and makes his way to the back of the crowd, starting in the general direction of the exit.

Leah moves with the Queen, keeping pace with her in the bevy of attendants that serve her. Her glance seeks out others in the room a final time before drawing out of range.

With her last words, the Queen starts to move down the aisle, and makes her way into the entrance hall of the palace. Her ladies and attendants follow behind her, as the guards of the palace close around her once more.
