| Summary: | Briana visits with the Queen of Cairhien for a short time. They discuss varying issues, though that of the Savior keeps cropping up. While the Queen tried to maneuver the aid of Tar Valon, Briana Sedai kept maneuvering away from giving such promises, leaving the Queen vexxed. |
Grand Hall: Sun Palace, Cairhien
The Grand Hall is magnificent. Tall marble columns in a darkly blue shades reach up all the way to the high, domed ceiling. The floor is also of blue, polished marble, and a red carpet embroidered with gilded lines reaches from the entrance gates all the way up the dais, then ends at the foot of the Sun throne. At the end of the hall, the Sun throne itself stands centered atop a wide dais of deep blue marble. The great heavy armed chair glitters with gild and golden silk. Somehow its lines are straight and plain, with the wavy-rayed Rising Sun above it.
Even if every fireplace is working fully, consuming large amounts of wood, you can sometimes get a feeling that it's a little cold in here. Many people heads in the direction of the Dining Hall, to have their breakfast served. Others stands in small pairs of two or three in casual conversation.
Between the columns to one side you can see an entrance to the Dining Hall, and the gilded doors facing the Sun Throne lead you back to the Entrance Hall.
Briana steps lightly making her way to you. Perhaps just another boring courtier but no this woman carries herself is that self important way reserved for yourself or Aes Sedai. Soon she is announced by the page and lead to kneel before you gracefully. Now she waits on your pleasure.
The Queen is lounding near the fireplace, a book in hand. No visitors are being taken for the evening, after a long day's worth of meetings and what have you over this Savior issue. Some of her advisors have commented on how stressed she's looked recently, and made certain that her calendar had been cleared.
When the announcement is made, Adelina closes her book, a small frown touching her lips before smoothing it out into a smile and turning around to greet the Aes Sedai; having seated herself with her back to the main entrance of the room. She rises from her chair in one graceful movement, her skirts flowing in about her legs with a light swooshing sound. She dips her head in an elegant fashion, addressing the Aes Sedai just so in greeting, never once giving her more than her proper due. "Please, come in," she speaks in a languid voice.
Briana nods and smiles, "Thank you for finding time to see me your Highness. I have been here for some time but of course you are a very busy monarch."
That frown returns, though only a brief instant, at the greeting she receives. Adelina inwardly makes a note of it, studying Briana's features for a long moment. "I have had many meetings to contend with Aes Sedai, and very little time to myself. This was an imposed resting period by my advisors." She does not neglect to state that she is being intruded upon. Briana would have been warned that Adelina is not particularly fond of Sedai, and has a tenuous relationship with them at best. She only just tolerates having an advisor.
Briana nods favoring you with a serene smile, "I would place myself at your service. While the Tower must always remain neutral we can offer support with our influence and aid off the field of war." She remains knelt before you as is proper presenting the image of homage.
"You may rise, Aes Sedai. Though, it would be befitting to know what name I should call you by." There is a note of annoyance in the Queen's voice as she has to ask for the other woman's name. "As far as the Tower goes, do they not remain neutral when other countries are in terms of war with one another?" She tilts her head a bit as she regards the Sedai, only a brief rimming of curiosity coming to her eyes.
Briana rises to her feet, "Briana Sedai your Majesty." She nods her head, "Yes indeed..but offering humanitarian aid is our way and ..well I think you know how the Savior promises to treat with Tar Valon if he gets that far."
"And just what would the Tower want in return for such aid, Briana Sedai?" There is some note of approval on Adelina's voice as the proper title is now used, and she now has a name to put to the face. Yet, there is some suspicion that grows within her eyes. "Surely, they do not mean to just offer their help for the sake of doing so."
Briana smiles a little, "We merely seek to restablish peace in the world as it used to be your Majesty." She smiles, "Surely that is what everyone wants?"
And they sent a Red to do this? To keep the peace? Some interest lines Adelina's features as she has those thoughts. She looks as though she's about to actually warm to the woman, "Then you are as skilled as a member of the Gray Ajah? I can't see where you'll succeed where we failed in this matter. There will be war, between the Savior's forces and our own. Or, does the Tower mean to lend the support of Tar Valon's Guard and the Gaidin in this matter?"
Briana shakes her head, "The oaths prevent it... We cannot act in that way. I do not see how the Savior can be stopped with a war now but if Andor and Cairhein do stop him we can offer all possible aid to help you after the fight stops. Healing, advice, rebuilding..all this can happen. I know the Amerlyn Seat wishes to supports those like yourself who are peaceful and good your Majesty."
Adelina gives a small shake of her head, "The Oaths prevent Aes Sedai from offensively using the power. There's nothing in the Oaths that states that Gaidin of the Tower, nor guardsmen of Tar Valon cannot give aid." She pauses a moment, then adds, "I studied at the Tower for a time, Briana Sedai. I'm well aware of what the Oaths do and do not prevent. I suppose then, that I have my answer in that."
Briana says "Truth be told your Majesty what you ask could happen but it is not my place to offer it. If you wished to send a missive to the Amerlyn Seat I can see it sent to her by fast riders immediately.""
"I have pigeons that regularly fly between here and Tar Valon, that get there faster than horse travel." Adelina states, her tone bordering on dry, though still respectful all the same. "If I felt I needed the Tower or Tar Valon's aid in this, I would send for it." In that, she states her position clearly. She doesn't want their aid. "All that I care about is discovering whether or not my husband is fit for public consumption once more, and if he has been... cured... of his malady. I suppose after this war, I'll be making a visit of state to the Tower to check on his condition."
Briana nods, "of course. In the meantime I am to be your aid in whatever way I can." She watches you carefully, "Sure your Majesty could use something."
"Then you are taking over for Irinya?" There is some confusion in her voice over this. Like as not, she has not received Briana's introduction. Adelina watches the woman with a suspicious eye. "Its about time. When I need her advice for a particular meeting or another, she's hardly to be found." She sniffs disdainfully, then goes to retake her seat, reaching out to get the glass of wine that sits on a table not too far away. She does not indicate any other needs aside from advising, nor likely would.
Briana coughs softly, "No your Majesty. I am far junior to Irinya Sedai and was sent to aid her not replace her. Still I hope I can be of service."
Sipping at her wine, Adelina only gives a cursory nod to the woman. "Of course, of course. Would you like to have a seat." She motions to one of the seats sitting across from her with a delicate twist of her hand.
Briana bobs her head, "yes thank you your Majesty." She moves over and sits down smoothly adjusting her skirts afterwards and crossing her legs. After getting comfortable she turns her gaze to you. She remains quiet waiting for you to speak and lets her eyes take you in again more carefully.
A servant comes from behind a curtain, likely sent there to attend the Queen's needs. She carries a small tray with several choices of liquor on them, which she offers to Briana.
Briana did come to her, so it is a small while before Adelina decides to break the silence. "Did the Tower have any other issues which they wanted addressed while you were here, aiding Irinya Sedai?" There is only a marginal hint of curiosity in her voice, though it is now twinged with suspicion. Her eyes narrow slightly a she regards Briana.
Briana asks for some red wine and accepts a glass fromt he servant. She grasps the glass in a delicate hand and looks to you, "Nothing to speak of..as I said I was sent to help her and yourself. Surely you could use someone to talk with and not worry about the schemes so common here at the palace?"
Frowns slightly at the suggestion, "There are those few that I do trust with my thoughts, and only those few, Aes Sedai." Adelian takes on a more formal note of address. "Here, trust is earned. Even Aes Sedai have their own agenda."
Briana nods taking a small sip of wine, "Of course.. if you choose not to that is your right. I am merely offering." She smiles warmly at you.
"Of course." A clock chimes in the background, announcing the hour. Adelina sighs faintly, looking over her shoulder and toward it. "If you will excuse me, the hour grows late, and it is time that I retire." With that, she settles her glass aside and rises in that once more graceful motion.
Briana's gazes follows your movements and she stands herself leaving the wine behind. She curtseys low before you, "As you wish Your Majesty. Call on me anytime if you wish to see me."
