Citzens of Tar Valon, fed up with the high prices on food stuffs and other staple items, band together and riot against the city adminstrators, merchants, and anyone else who gives them cause. One innocent man dies.

Tatiana gets caught stealing. Gregory puts two and two together. A bath is drawn, and Tatiana ends up in the Tower Courtyard.

Kirill V'anterian finds High Ambassador Meeko in the Ogier Grove of the city. Defaming her as a Friend of the Dark, he attempts to kill her on the spot - rather than let Tar Valon Justice do its work. Sionil Sedai steps in and has the city guard arrest Kirill.

The acting High Ambassador Meeko is threatened in the grove leading to an arrest and eventual trial of the perpetrator.

Meeko and Keats converse prior to the trial of Kirill V'anterian.

Kirill Všanterian is brought to trial on the counts of attempted murder against the acting High Ambassdor Meeko Unega. During the course of the trial, he wholeheartedly admits that he was a friend of the dark, and accuses Meeko of being the same.
